    I got once that problem and I fixed, I went to this file history.config and I change to 1.2.9 I opened again the launcher and I dont have any problem with update. I hope work for you

    Drag that file out to the desktop  edit it  and save, then drag it back to original directory/folder

    I had that problem too. I deleted (uninstalled) the game, and reinstalled on a different drive.  On my laptop, it uses C drive as "restricted use" and D drive is open. Hope it gets you around your problem.
