Public Test Server...

StevenSegnalStevenSegnal Posts: 226Approved Member Trainee

Test's already start!

So I think is good idea to open a public Test Server as Koreans did.

So all ppl can see what to expect can open a discussion to report bugs and im sure many ppl will be happy to enjoy this will make them even more exidet but also more patient for the new patches...

I already ask Gismo in another thread about this lets be public.

I wonna know what GM's Dev's think about this idea what players think about it.

PS: Please get serious lets leave jokes for a moment and just share your opinion...

Your maybe right (sadly part of me hope you wrong but biggest part know that's true).

I asked myself many times why they don't take actions bout this gold sellers. And the only logical answer is that they work together. Im sure that they can ban them easely on IP Mac Adress or whatever there its a simple way to remove them if they want to...

Anyway we talk about to open a public Test Server.

Many ppl lost their patient waiting this action we are counting YEARS of waiting an action that's redicious.

My hope is to see it sooner as possible no metter that gonna be a Test Server.
Players need some real proof of that this action realy comes they want to see what is coming.

We are sure of that when patch is uploaded to the main server there will be tons of bugs.

Than we will see a new thread (we already have it anyway) "if you see bug report here".

Let's save some time and Open this Test Server open a discussion for reporting bugs.

    Bad Idea.

They dont have the resources neither the people to keep a test server up, that would be another source to burn they time. Look how much time they are spending trying to put  A19.

A test server would be a mess, with even more bugs, do you really think all players would test and report bugs? I can assure to you 90% of players would try to take advantage of what they discover, I  also fear that they could even break the official server.

No, Thank You, we have a lot of problems already.

In my opinion this Test Server's are already keep this servers I don't thing is big deal if they just made it public. I think 90% of ppl will join this servers just for the fun to see whats coming up to make some balanced pvp's (cuz of balanced items starting in test server if made as Korean server). And ofc I hope rest 10% to report bug that they see.

Still waiting for GM answer about this...

    The usual test activities include:

Alpha: The developers release a new patch/update to their test servers then test it in their own labs. Users can be invited to participate (in the developers labs) but obviously this wont happen here.

Closed Beta: The developers release the URL to a SMALL selection of users to test it at home and make sure it works, if any issues are found they are addressed prior to live release.

Open Beta: The URL is released to a lot or all of the users (what is suggested here)

The only benefit of allowing ALL users would be for Load and concurrency testing to make sure the servers wont crash when it is released to live. I am sure this wont happen given that the live servers are fully capable of handling the existing user population. Opening a thread wouldn't work in my opinion as it would just become too large and addressing every bug would delay release by months.

Best option for me would be a closed Beta where the developers invite a selected number of low, medium and high end users in order to test all the dungeons, maps and general content. This would provide them with major issues from the users perspective.

You need to understand in a game like this it is impossible to release a bug free patch, the best you can do is identify the most important ones and fix them pre release then address the rest post live implementation. Closed Beta would achieve this.

The player access to the test server (open beta) is a double edged sword. Kind of agree with h2obrr on this one. We have discussed the closed beta version briefly, but the process would still needs more vetting.

Staff has been assigned testing materials already and the first wave of bug reports have been sent in.

Gismo don't underestimate the benefit of closed Beta. Existing players know the bugs and what to look for through in game experience which would be invaluable to the game developers and would be a free resource to release staff (who would otherwise be in the game testing) to focus on fixing bugs. In the same way as business software customers know their business better than the developers.

I see the same problem as h2obrr, if you make the test server available for everyone they would have to invest in another server and some other stuff.
Making it accessible for a few chosen ones will result in them abusing the information on the normal server. Example: Item X will be available from Quest Y, so all the people who found out will sell item X and tell their friends.

IF they are going to allow people to use a test server, it should be only small parts of actions not 1-2,5 actions as it is now. These tests would need to be live-streamed by Papaya employees and let people only access the specific content which should be tested. Not that easy.

I for myself would test the content and report bugs which I find, BUT I'm sure that I would also (ab-)use said information.

Abuse would be solved by giving the player testers access to test characters provided by Dekaron developers which means they can't keep anything they gain during testing. Yes they would gain knowledge of new content but surely it would be a short lived advantage as that knowledge would be available to all players once the patch went live?

    @northeastazu

Test servers aren't linked to our characters, so it's pointless your first statement.

Knowledge is everything, you don't need more than a few hours to take extreme advantage of something.

I will give you one example, remember when ib2 started dropping 50% talis, in one day people made entire 180 set for their characters, and there where people who didn't know that every run dropped 50% talis. (At that time every piece of 180+9 was 90b clean)

Information is EVERYTHING, having access to information let people take great advantage of things, if those were about bugs they take even more advantage.

Add to the other facts I stated, I don't see it happening...

I will just repeat here what I suggested years ago: test server with max 50 users. Choose users randomly from guild leaders with guild lvl 10 or some other appropriate lvl (depending how many guilds with high lvl exist) and choose them every maintenance. With so many testers, no secrets will stay secret and abuse could be kept at minimum. Something tested on test server does not necessarily mean it will be implemented for real. Many things on Korean test server never find their way into real servers, but are there to check concepts. Also, it is much faster to remove bugs and streamline gameplay.

@h2obrr: Test servers aren't linked to our characters, so it's pointless your first statement.

They wouldn't need to be. When we test, we provide log in details to the people taking part in the testing to give them access to the environment. It's a ringfenced test environment and nothing to do with their access to the live environment

The people mentioned in MateaB1's post above, would be provided log in details for characters on the test server. Once the testing is finished the characters are deleted. It's nothing to do with their in game characters on the live game servers.

Well now I thing if cant all get acces to the test server than no1 should (exept Devs/GM).

As ware said "information is everything".

And as Poke said he may report bugs but also have a chance to abuse with that info.

We already worrie about players with special attention and privilagues in this game (I wont say names).

Its not good idea to be given acces to few players cuz after this few ppl will get expensive information and rest will be F**ked.

And anyway I still don't understand why pub test server work at Koreans.

Years ago when Act.7 started I has the pleasure to join the Korean Test Server (by helping of friend)

We has a characters lvl 165 full geared and free to test all new items and dungeons.

Every1 has a chance to creat what character they want and see whats the new and what to expect.

The problem with that is the test server capacity. Usually they are scaled down versions of the live so may not support a full user base
  • northeastazunortheastazu Posts: 222Approved Member Trainee
Anyway, judging by the lack of response and the fact they have started testing anyway would indicate they don't want the player communities help.
  • h2obrrh2obrr Posts: 290Approved Member Intermediate
Taking aside that Korea accounts are linked to KSN and getting banned is like not playing anymore.

That Korea has it own DEVs, not like here, where they just (try to) apply things on the server and cant change a one line to stack buffs without asking Korea to do the changes.

And the difference in infrastructure of our servers and papaya workers to Korea servers and workers,
then yes I agree that we should have open test servers.
