Some information in here may not reflect changes that had happened under Nexon's watch or Papaya's time. Please post about any changes that should be made to this guide.I have skimmed this and made a few changes: highlighting what was added for content, fixing some typos, and crossing out what does not apply. There is definitely dated information within here. This was copied from the old G1 forums after the transition to Nexon. First let me thank xstunnerx and Ninjavega for compiling and completing this list through level 100. They did a lot of work and had a lot of help.
As of July 31, 2008 these numbers are believed to be as accurate as possible. Unless you have reliable proof that these numbers are wrong (or if you find a typo in this list) the values presented here are likely to be the actual XP requirement totals from 1 to 100.

How do I gain levels?
Play and complete entire games. At the end you will be rewarded Experience based on your performance. If you leave early (or get kicked from the game) You are not awarded your experience and will not level up.
How many levels are there?
In this version of the game there is currently 100 levels. If you didn't already know that, please read the rest of the basic training section on the main website while your there.
How do I see my score?
Press tab. Depending on which game mode you are in, you will see kills, deaths, assists, flags and points listed.
How do I earn those and what are points?
Kills = Kill enemy
Deaths= Die
Flags = Stand near an enemy or neutral color flag in maps that have more than 2 bases, wait for the % to change the color. If its an enemy color you'll need to cycle it through neutral as well before it becomes your team's flag. (You cannot take the enemies "main base" flag, unless you are in "conquest" game type. They are protected for the duration of the game in most modes.)
Assists = This is where it gets complicated. Assists are tracked in every game mode (though only displayed during CQC - close quarters combat). Assists are earned through healing teammates (only if they are “bleeding out” with a cross next to their name and shouting medic); hitting enemies with flash mines, giving ammo boxes and med boxes to teammates and possibly through a variety of other actions as well (it is hard to judge, since you cannot view assists during BG, but even a pilot/driver that never scores an enemy kill earns “points” when someone in their vehicle gets a kill. These are believed to be assists adding to points). Assists have also been added for attempted kills - if you damage your opponent and someone else kills them, you will get 1 assist point.
You also score negative assists for: bleeding out, crashing a vehicle (to the point of blowing it up), using F4 to commit suicide. These each have a negative effect on your score, the biggest penalty is from F4.
Do I get points for deaths?
Yes. If you were killed by an enemy than you receive “1 point” for that death. If you killed yourself you still get a death count, but you also get negative assists and your score is lowered. This is so that your kill/death ratio (displayed by hovering your mouse over your name in game room lobbies) tracks all your death types, while varying the penalty depending on the type of death.
Why do I get 1 point for death?
You learn from your mistakes. It also encourages fair play. Realize the least amount of points you can earn for a kill is 5. So dying is not an efficient method of gaining points (at 1 each). Also, it further devalues the use of intentional suicide. If someone is trying to F4 themselves to prevent the other team from scoring a kill, they don't score the 1 point they'd have gotten for an honorable death, and they lose 5 points, which takes away all that they will earn from their own next kill.
Suiciders, and people who jump from planes and die will have a much harder time scoring points (and leveling up) than people who play with a sense of fairness and try their best while accepting their own deaths from time to time.
How many points do I get for kills or taking flags?
Basic Kills are 5 points. More points are awarded for kills with different vehicles.
Flag points vary depending on game mode and the number of enemy players on the other team. A 1v1 deathmatch game for example may award 0 xp, because there is no risk when stealing flags on a large map with only 1 enemy present.
If enough enemy are present to award points, you get them for each color change, if for example you get 2 points per flag color change (4 points for full conversion).
You score more points for flag color changes in conquest mode than in deathmatch. There may also be other variables I am not aware of.
It should also be noted that the enemy team is only penalized for changing the flag from neutral to your color; so while you may get personal points for taking their color to neutral, it will not effect their remaining spawns (the numbers at the top of the screen) when you complete the cycle and make the flag yours. Leaving a flag neutral gives them the opportunity to penalize your team (they knocked off your spawn points when they first took the flag, and again converting it neutral to their color, this can cripple your teams spawns remaining if you are consistently leaving neutral flags for the enemy to recapture)
Do I get more points for head shots or killing high level players?
No. Not more points on the score itself. Headshots and other factors may
modify your experience total rewarded at the end of the game. With the new headshot and kill streak bonuses, you do get more points for killing by headshot. You also receive more points for going on a kill streak.
Note: this was mentioned by a K2 admin; and while it seems hard to verify in 1v1 games; it's possible this and many other modifiers simply do not take effect unless you are playing in larger scale games.
Aren't points the same as experience?
No! Though closely related, the score you view on the tab is just a general idea of how well your doing through the course of the game. The final XP reward is much more complex.
How is XP calculated? Can you give me the formula?
No, I can't give you the exact formula.
I will however post brief summary of the types of things used to make those calculations (original version of this posted by Korgoth)
The game is NOT setup so you get the same XP for each kill. It depends on how many consecutive kills you have gotten between your deaths. How many headshots you've gotten and a wide variety of other actions you perform during the game.
A player that kills 10 enemies before he is killed will get more XP because he gets a bonus for consecutive kills. It also depends on whether they killed the players with firearms or a vehicle.
Example:
1. Player-1 kills 12 enemy before he is killed.
2. Player-2 kills 4 enemies before he is killed.
Player-1 will get extra XP points because he had a higher consecutive kill ratio.
There is a lot of math that goes on into the game and DE has not sent K2 a complete list... it is in fact a very long mathematical equation for each type.
If you are basing XP solely on the number of kills a player has then you you might think there is a problem when you compare XP rewarded; but since you do not take into account the consecutive kills and other variables you are only seeing half the solution.
Some other difference in scoring that give bonus with kills are as follows
Vehicle Vs. Player
Vehicle Vs. Vehicle
Vehicle Vs. Aircraft
Vehicle Vs. Boat
Player Vs. Vehicle
Player Vs. Player
Player Vs. Aircraft
Player Vs. Boat
Aircraft Vs. Aircraft
Aircraft Vs. Player
Aircraft Vs. Boat
Aircraft Vs. Vehicle
Boat Vs. Boat
Boat Vs. Vehicle
Boat Vs. Aircraft
Boat Vs. Player
All are different.
All scores start off with a base value and then bonuses are applied depending on Consecutive kill, the above mentioned kill type and finally in the case of vehicle if other player were in the vehicle when it was killed (you get multipliers if other players are killed).
Also ALL teammates share a XP bonus based on what the team as a whole did, so if one team had more kills then they all get a bonus. If you are on a team that has fewer players you personally will get an added bonus when you kill players because you and your team is at a disadvantage.
Team performance can have massive impact on XP awarded in large scale games.
All this gets tallied at the end of the game.
There is NO pre set score where 1+1=2 for XP earned; it is more like 1+X+Y*B=Z and even that is simplified.
How does this translate into use during the game?
Well, in short don't worry about it! Play the game with a sense of fairplay and honor. Don't look for ways to try and penalize the other team (by suiciding or jumping from planes).
Don't kick your high level players on your team just because you're jealous (you get a shared xp bonus just for ending the game with them still on the team if they scored well!)
Don't quit just because your out numbered, you get an XP bonus just for making the effort.
Don't be afraid to help your team. Heal them, drive them around while they get kills, this all helps you earn XP in the long run.
The better teammate you are, the better you and everyone around you will earn XP.
Why don't they just show XP during game instead of the score?
The factors that are used to calculate it are just tracked in very simple addition and subtraction formats while playing. How many times you did x or Y. The final equation is not processed until the game is ended since many of the variables also depend on the final score and who won or lost and the number of players present and so on. There are just too many variables to give an accurate estimate before the end of the game. The score is the closest thing you can use to track your current performance until the game is over.
How much XP do I need to gain levels?
There is no official chart with all the XP amounts listed per level. The amount you need does go up per level though, and it eventually becomes very steep. But we do have a very handy player compiled guide!
For example, the amount of XP needed to change from level 1 to level 2 is 2,500 XP; to change from level 21 to level 22 requires more than 20,000 XP.
Beyond that, it is not a steady multiplier. By the time you reach levels 50+ the XP volume needed is well into the millions.
Best advice I can give you is: play for fun, play fair, be a good teammate and let the levels come naturally. You will enjoy the game far more by trying to have fun than trying to “max level”.
How long will it take to get to level 100?
Considering no one has done it, and Based on the speed of leveling seen
by the highest level players in the game it is estimated to take approximately 5 to 7 years of reasonably steady play to reach level 100.
But that will take forever!
First off... that's not a question, but I'll answer it anyway: Yes, it will take a long time. But the simple reality is, no one “needs” to be level 100. You do not gain HP (hit points), magic ability's, or any special powers simply for gaining levels. The only 4 things earning levels will achieve is:
1) Unlocking better weapons in the item shop. But, none of the guns require anywhere near level 100 to use. The current set require level 21, and even though future guns may require levels 26+ these are easily achievable in a few weeks, or at most a few months. Note that with the new ability to bypass level restrictions with cash purchases in the marketplace that unlocking level restricted guns is simply giving you the ability to buy them with dinar instead of real money.
2) Higher levels give you access to higher level-restricted rooms, the maximum being 41+.
3) By level 70 you earn a yellow name.
4) Bragging rights. And those should be hard to come by. Some day you may achieve a super high rank, in the mean time, just enjoy the game and let the levels come naturally.
Why do I seem to get the same amount of XP from FFA games every time I get X number of kills?
From my own testing, FFA matches appear to use only the kill count for XP earned at the end of a game. Compared to other game modes this may be more or less than you're normally capable of earning over the same time period as you simply have none of the other factors added in from teammate bonuses, assists, etc.
What else can I do to get more XP?
The best advice I can give you is become a student of the game. Study the habits of high scoring players, and learn to use what is available on each map to your advantage (vehicles, back alleys to steal flags, etc)
A room created by a player with the Supermaster PX item will give a 5% bonus to all players in the room. You can also gain individual bonuses by buying EXP Up items: EXP 30%, EXP 20%, and Double Up. You can also get additional EXP with premium.
How is this bonus XP calculated? I don't think I got as much as I should have.
If your XP rewarded was 1000, and your bonus xp is 20%, your XP gain total would be 1,200 xp. How much that adds to your “% needed for next level” will depend on what level you are, and how much more you need.
At level 1, 1000-1200 XP would be around 50% of your level. At level 20+ 1000 XP earned would be barely 4 or 5% of your level.
I'm level “X” and I only get Y% per game, what's wrong?
You need more XP per level, it is natural for leveling to become much slower the higher you get. It will eventually become so slow that you may earn 1% of your level or less per game. This is natural, you should be focused on having fun and improving your knowledge and skill of the game, not on what level you are.
Can I power level? Is this against the rules?
The shorter is: Yes it is considered against the rules.
Slightly longer answer: The GM's (game masters) have recently spoken out against power leveling. (Technically Papaya Play has not said anything on this yet.) It is “not in the spirit of the game” to intentionally power level. You will obviously not be punished simply for playing real 1v1 games against each other; but you could in fact be warned and punished if they believe your deliberately power leveling and avoiding playing the game as intended. Please read the post below this one if you want the full details
Something to consider before you run off and try to power level anyway: Because of the way XP is calculated most power leveling techniques are simply not very effective anyway. Locking you and a friend in a 1v1 room to “maximize” XP gain, actually avoids some of the largest XP bonuses the game can offer. In fact, theres so many bonuses your avoiding by using this method that there's too many of them for me to even attempt listing them all.
In the end, the only person you're cheating is yourself. You won't learn usable tactics for facing real opponents, and if you actually compare the amount of time you spent, you'd probably see the XP per hour earnings weren't all that great anyway.
In my experience testing these methods it's faster for a skilled player to earn XP in a large room vs a wide range of opponents than it is to sit in 1 room with 1 person trying to power level. You simply can't achieve the bonuses needed for a truly good XP reward with only 1 person in a room with you.
So please, stop spamming the lobby with “want to power level?” and learn to play the game.
Plus recently, if you are caught power leveling, k2 will not hesitate to DELEVEL you.
But why won't they release the formula?
For one thing, DE hasn't actually given K2 the exact formula. For another, it would just lead to more people trying to exploit the system instead of just having fun.
Play and enjoy yourself, let the system worry about your XP not you.
Than why make this FAQ at all?
Because people always have questions, and knowing the basics can ease a lot of anxiety for some people. Knowing that the system is designed to reward fair and honorable play is important. Knowing each and every possible variable in how that is determined, is not.

I initially couldn't fit all the guide in one post, but now I can thanks to looking at the source formating.

Edit: @R3voxWR, that image is wrong. There were multiple typos that no one brought to my attention for over 5 years on it.There's probably others I didn't notice. I'll probably recreate that image tbh, if I can figure out a good way to format it.
