Software Overclock:
It's used for overclocking your computer while running with certain software, not more, not less.
I'll explain the advantages of software overclocking later.
Which software counts as an overclocking tool?
Any program that is able to overclock the FSB / BCLK of a running system.
Known software:
SetFSB
AMD Overdrive
OC Tuner
Asus AI Suite
Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility
EasyTune
Asus Turbo V Evo
EVGA
Firestorm
F-Stream Tuning
MSI Comand Center
Asus DIP
Intel Desktop Control Center
It's not forbidden to use those tools in order to check the temperatures
of your computer hardware or for overclocking your RAM. It's only
forbidden to change the FSB or BCLK with this software.
My CPU was already overclocked when I purchased it!
This had been done in the BIOS which is allowed.
My CPU automatically overclocks if it needs more power. (Intel Turbo Boost)
This is done via "Intel Turbo Boost Technology" or "AMD Turbo Core
Technology", it is allowed because it is not done with any software.
In-depth explanation:
"Intel Turbo Boost is a technology implemented by Intel in certain
versions of their Nehalem-, Sandy-Bridge-, Ivy-Bridge, and Haswell-based
CPUs, including Core i5 and Core i7 that enables the processor to run
above its base operating frequency via dynamic control of the CPU's
"clock rate".[1] It is activated when the operating system requests the
highest performance state of the processor. Processor performance states
are defined by the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)
specification, an open standard supported by all major operating
systems; no additional software or drivers are required to support the
technology.[1] The design concept behind Turbo Boost is commonly
referred to as "dynamic overclocking"."
Does overclocking my graphic card, RAM etc. count as software overclock, tool?
NO. It is allowed to overclock your graphic card, RAM, HyperTransport, North Bridge and PCIE.
Is BIOS overclocking allowed?
To make it short: Yes it is.
Why software overclocking is forbidden:
WarRock supports internal timing regarding the clock frequency of the
Front Side Bus (FSB) which is read and sent by the basic input / output
system (BIOS). If someone overclocks this FSB frequency with certain
software, it differs from the actual frequency that is sent by the BIOS.
This has an impact on the basic calculation of the game and makes you
gain unfair advantages from this.
This counts both for overclocking and underclocking.
Software overclocking lets the player shoot, move, capture flags and
defuse bombs faster. This doesn't happen if you don't change your clock
frequency by using a software.

@grucha78 It is in the spirit of preserving information about WarRock. We have lost all forum posts done in the K2/G1 era - I know of no back up that anyone collected. We know not when Nexon will delete all the posts from their forums, so it's probably wise to get a back up of anything important. The easiest to identify as important would be any tutorials, guides, or FAQs.
@blyzzardx I hope so that software overclocking remains forbidden, and is actually enforced. Overclocking comes in different flavors, as this post describes, and it's just one particular flavor that is problematic to the game. As a consequence, I wouldn't want a universal "no overclocking" policy, just one that forbids the variety that gives you an advantage.
