Well, it's been said classes with high DPS should use black for the crit rate, static damage, and hp.
So, DF, Bow WS, Arc Mage, Swordian, ect ect. Then you have classes that are less about dps but heavier on damage so they typically use Red set for the Attack and elemental intensity %. But in my opinion. Then you have classes like Demigod, where it really doesn't matter which one you use (I used Red as a demi). In my opinion, you should use which one you feel would be better for your play style. It isn't necessarily set in stone which set you should use. More or less a suggestion. If that makes sense.

It has always been a tricky one. I remember seeing KLT bow WS testing red and black sets and the overal damage output was pretty much the same.

The truth is that even within one single class different skills scale differently. Some benefit from high strength value, some from high attack. In the end it all comes down to what you think will work best for your character.

    To put it simply:

If you need higher stats (STR/MAG come to mind, but even stamina is good to consider. Though the HP gains on both sets may be the same, some classes benefit more from stamina, others from the pure HP red set provides), higher crit rate and your class uses a lot of multihits, black set may be the choice for you.

However, if you need max/critical damage and attack range/elemental intensity (which is a stat that benefits heavily classes with high Maximum Damage), also having sufficient critical rate for your combos (50+ is what you'd like at really high levels, 70+ is optimal. LUCK stat is also to consider: you need 30k+ at endgame, 35k+ for all dungeons up to Elrian Laboratory, also referred to as Manastone) and burst damage (high output in some skills instead of consistent, multi-hitting skills with high DPS), red set may be the choice here.

For instance: Rogue Master is a class with naturally high critical rate and are also a burst class, their skills scaling heavily with attack range. So red is often the optimal choice here.

Terror Knight or Der Freischutz, however, lack that high critical rate and also rely on varius multi-hitting skills for their damage (mathematics will tell you multihits on low critical rate only makes it more likely for a non-crit to show up), black set is often the choice.
