Is it just me or is the server latency awful

The lag is driving me INSANE, are other people on the west coast suffering as much as I am? Also, does anyone know what the server ip is so I can ping it?

Wish papaya would work on upgrading their potato quality servers or move it to a more central location ffs east cost? The rubber banding and teleportation all over the map is turning me into a salt mine.

Servers have been fine for me as a West Coast player, I live in western Nevada with an upload speed of about 4-6Mbps(Download of 20MBps), on wireless however so I could be fairing better, I've used TCP Optimizer to make it pretty good. I only lag whenever someone I share internet with decides they want to stream videos. It's actually been quite alot faster than OGP.

Could attempt a speedtest to confirm if the issue is on your end

-Try going wired if you haven't, this is blatantly superior in every scenario
-Restart your internet equipment, such as Routers.
    -Scan for malware
-Scream at your ISP to get their act together or switch

There should be little to no lag going on the server. considering the upgrade from OGP, if you're still lagging, this may be an issue with your internet and not the servers.

I don't liveon the west coast, but for me I only do have lags when I have youtube in the background loading videos. If I have a 1+ hour playlist going on it doesnt interupt my gameplay ,only when it is loading a new video. So streaming is something that might cause your problems. I've lagged way more on OGP tbh.

    Dude.

I live twice as far as you do from the servers, and I have better latency than OGP servers ever had. So calling these "potato quality" servers is quite a stretch just because "you" have problems with them.

So like others said : check with your ISP, don't play via 4G/Wi-Fi (seriously, playing online with those is just asking to be disconnected/lag), upgrade your internet plans, upgrade your gear (like switches/routers/cables/network card)...

Sorry if that sounded a little agressive, but these servers have been working better than OGP in their 9 years of service, so it irritated me a little seeing them called "potato quality servers".

I live on the East Coast and it isn't bad but I definitely notice it. Sometimes my skills dont pop despite the button being depressed and I do rubber band here and there a tad. Certainly doesn't help with Hero King which IMHO is a bit OP for what he is. A little lag with him = insta dead due to the shield. However, the lag I am getting now is not nearly as bad as the old server.

Now to go back to trying to get the hero cloak I accidentally decomposed -_-.... *hiss*

*Note: My desktop runs over Wi-Fi and it still isn't that bad, even on the East Coast and a thieving **** of an ISP. If you are having problems on the West Coast, I will agree it's probably something on your end.

@Kaonashi The server is on East Coast, you should hypothetically be better off than I am, if your having more issues than I am your ISP is worse than you believe it is. (somehow) Or you have FPS lag consistantly.

Honestly, I had a much better experience with OGP. I'm almost always plugged into ethernet, and in other games my ping hovers around 20ms while here at times my ping is a steady 140ms. I'm basically playing a turn based rpg at this point.

Going by the responses though looks like it may be a problem on my end? I started using a tunneling service but ping still gets pretty bad at times.

Edit: Can I get more specifics on how exactly the servers were 'upgraded' from OGP?

@Kaonashi A little advice on Hero King : his shield isn't as OP as it seems. The only reason you get instakilled is that the shroom multiplies your damage on him.

If you hit the shield normally (meaning no shroom), you don't get OHKO'd because of HK's damage reduction. You still get some damage, sure, but you still live. So if you know or have the feeling HK's shield isn't on CD anymore (I'd say 1 minute or 2 after the cast, not sure about the true CD), try not to hit him with a shroom besides him. Lure him out, wait for the shroom buff to cancel (3 secs should do the trick) and kill the monsters without any worries.

You'll still have to recover more HP because of the shield, but at least you won't get OHKO'd. Takes more time, but at least you still complete it.

@Poortagonist Honestly, 140ms is already twice as better than what I had at OGP. Was at constant 300ms+ there.

But yeah, you should check at least on your end. For the "upgrade", I don't really know exactly since I do not know the specifications of both servers. But what I "feel" is that the servers hold up really well, unless it's on peak hours. Then there are a couple of lag spikes but nothing that can get you killed over.

However, when there's less people, LT runs as smooth as a baby's buttcheeks. Which wasn't the case at OGP.  Lag spikes were just all over the place, whether there were people or not there. And it wasn't just my ISP either, even people from East Coast/Central USA felt them.

How the heck did you even play at 300ms, going up and down ladders is already a struggle at 140ms and dungeons that require any sort of platforming are pretty much an exercise in patience. Not to mention the mini server timeouts that get me crit locked and killed. This game doesn't depend on low latency like a FPS but ping over 100ms for any type of game is obscene.

I'm in Cali and I used to play back in 2009 when OGP servers were on the east coast as well without experiencing any of these problems. Granted I have switched ISPs since then so this may be their fault and if so then I'm probably SOL. I'll test out how the game runs on my uni's internet later since I know they pay out of their ass for quality service.

I think it may just be you. I live in California and don't suffer any great lags or anything really. Seems pretty smooth so far.

i live in the UK, on a wired 160down/12up connection and while i have general latency due to being far away, its not anywhere as bad as you describe it. not NEARLY as bad as OGP.

sooooo, i think the issue really does lie with you, im afraid.

    @poortagonist
OGP servers back in 09 were actually in California themselves as OGP only moved the servers east after Aeria dropped their version of La Tale (Which died around September 2010, I think the OGP servers move in 2011?) and OGP moved the servers back to California 2 months before OGP's shut down of La Tale so the last 2 months of OGP La Tale might've appeared better solely on distance.

Personally in comparison to OGP my ping is overall slower(i.e, can't duck and unduck in a flash) so I probably won't play blader... not that I had any interest, but pet loot speeds have been far superior and more consistent in my playtime thus far with less ping spikes making the experience feel less jittery without having moments where my character would just pause and wonder about life as mobs surrounded her being.

I'd really think it'd be worth investigating why your having such weird lag if my dinky internet on wireless is managing better, hell call up the ISP and see if some throttle or the like is in place. There is no way even a decent ISP on wired should be misery unless your ISP is outright lying about their speeds and potential.

I have a wireless connection and I live near the coast in California, so I might be as far as I can be without being on the literal coast. I do get some lag, but it's consistent around 8pm-ish over here. It's nothing I can't deal with though, and I am on a wireless connection as well as sharing the connection with 3 other people in the house, so I can't really expect the best. However, it plays better than when OGP had it's server over in the East. You might want to check either your ISP or just stop running programs in the background (if that's what you typically do).

So I figured out the problem and you guys were right it was on my end. Apparently my roommate is torrenting like terabytes of I don't even know what, 4k HD 3d porn probably. Nothing I can do about it, guess I'll just use the uni wifi when I play. Thanks for the help everybody!

I am playing from Eastern Europe, which is times further than you will ever get to, and still have very good connection. I only lagg when I am a) playing from other places than my home and b) playing on ch1.

The problem is on your end.
