If you had the bug yesterday where you was told to rename your account then please be patient while they try to figure it out.

--- Posted on Discord earlier by [MOD]Dante

Hello everyone!

We will first investigate on the issue (with Dream Execution) on why did that happen, then we will try to find a solution for those players who "lost" their nickname.

Once Papaya and Dream Execution are done with the investigations we will announce it on the Forum/Website.

Thank you for your understanding and patience

Here's a rundown of possible scenarios that I can think of regarding this issue and possible resolutions:

    1. Given the premise that once a nickname is registered, it is never available for another account (whether the original account is banned or uses the NickChange PX Item):
1a. There may be a way to detect if an account underwent a nickchange in the last X hours, double check that no NickChange PX Item was purchased (if it's even available in the in-game shop) nor was it used, then it may be reversible.
1aα. It could be reversed by looking at a previous backup of the database. A partial-rollback to re-overwrite the game fields may be possible.
1aβ. Such an overwrite may require a server maintenance to get everyone offline to avoid conflicts with the admins trying to write a new name for your account while you're playing.
1aγ. However, the backup may not be recent enough to capture all accounts that experienced this issue, if any new accounts did, or any recently migrated accounts (migrated from Nexon's end, not just first time logging into Papaya after consenting to migration when it first opened).
1aε. In the instance of the database not being able to reverse everyone's name, or if the partial rollback cannot be done, then individually changing names on support tickets may be done.
1aφ. And in this case, this undoes nick changes that may have been wanted by players who used this opportunity for a free nickchange. Technically, I argue that's harmless - on migration, you could have nickchanged, but in case of any confusion, you didn't. But maybe Papaya wants to draw a hardline and ask you buy the NickChange PX (if and when it's available).

1b. If there isn't a way to detect if the nickchange was a result of using the PX item (if it's available) or through this bug, then Papaya may take one of two actions:
1bα. They might reverse all the name changes, even those that might have been through nickchange PX, and then nickchange PX people have to submit a ticket to have their nickchange redone.
1bβ. They might ask everyone to send in an individual support ticket to get the name change undone on a case-by-case basis. (This entails a lot more work IMO.)

1c. A partial rollback may not be possible, and so a full rollback may be done, undoing all exp/dinar/weapons earned since the bug was first noticed.

    2. If after a nickchange the original name becomes available for anyone else to register, this makes things messier.
2a. The easiest solution at that point is a full rollback, which may or may not unregister brand new accounts. This is because of the possibility a nickname was stolen (If I nickchanged from linkinxero to tom, someone else over the weekend could have claimed nickname linkinxero.) And any new accounts registered in that time might have to be erased because if they register as linkinxero, merging new accounts with the old database leads to an ID conflict.
2b. Papaya may have to take it case-by-case and check for the existence of the name, research when that name was registered, check that the account asking for support to reclaim that name did indeed have the name prior, and award the name to the player who first registered it.
2bα. In the event that a second account did claim a name and that had to be undone, then their name has to be reversed if they're an account that underwent a nickchange, and there still needs to be a check that they weren't the victim of a "nicksteal" as well.
2bβ. And a system of checks needs to be in place such that once someone's name has been restored by the admins, they don't accidentally undo that name restoration while on this hunt. So they need to be checking back through all X hours since the bug was reported, not just to the last previous name and seeing that it was changed more recently (because an admin did that).
2bγ. For any freshly made accounts that claimed a nickname someone else had lost, a name still needs to be given to that new/very freshly migrated account. A previous publisher ended up using a name "player___" where ___ was filled with a randomly generated hexadecimal string of 9 characters (max 15 characters for names back then? Papaya allows 20, so could be a 14 char string) where the odds of a conflict drop significantly.
2bγa. They may or may not award a free nickchange PX to this account so they can get a decent nickname again.

Yeah, it took much longer to type that up than I was hoping. I had all the thoughts done in like 90 seconds once I heard of this issue.

Announcemen from an LGM on Discordt

    ello Soldiers!

We recently ran into a bug that forced users to change their nicknames. We understand that many of you cherish your nicknames and do not want to change them. Therefore, we have decided to do a rollback on all nickname changes. This rollback will happen in the next few days.

If you have not logged into the game since the bug has occurred as you are afraid to lose your nickname, do not worry. You can create a new nickname and play normally until we do the rollback, at which time you will receive your old nickname back.

If you are a user that purchased a nickname change please send us a ticket.

    Regards,

    Team War Rock

Ah ha, so it sounds like this scenario is happening:

"1bα. They might reverse all the name changes, even those that might have
been through nickchange PX, and then nickchange PX people have to
submit a ticket to have their nickchange redone."

But the question is, is this a full rollback or just a rollback on the names?
