On a scale of 1 - 100, how would you rate Latale?

With 1 being less good and 100 being more good.
Pro's and Con's?

Bonus points for mentioning how casual friendly the game is or is not / time needed to go far.

    Pros:

    Fun,
    Great Artstyle,
    very few bugs, and problems
a great selection of classes within classes, job advancement,
    requires little effort to level
easy to get ingame currency by doing dailes dungeons

    Cons:
few elements that makes it p2w. but it will be changed a patch coming soon. mainly Pets.
quite gated with what you can do beside grinding, u gotta farm 4-8 man dungeons solo for ely,
leveling beyond 200 can be super slow cause of daily gating of importent dungeons,

couldn't really find more cons then that. everything is super smooth and people are very friendly in the game as a community and helpful

instead of a progression in the skills i actually wanted to use , i got a regression

started this game feeling amazing being awarded new turret skills every 10 or so levels

moment i job change to meister i see all these new exciting even more turret skills

only to find out that there is a turret cap of 3 which impaired my desire to play anymore

THEN i learned the cap was increased to 5 in the next job change so i was motivated to play again

got to the next job change and was excited

only to find out they removed my fire turret

the one dps turret i had

    so screw you latale

    biggest waste of time

hmm a 100 scale is pretty hard, maybe like an 80.

On one hand it's a game that's fun enough to keep me coming back for like 9 years now which speaks to a lot. There are other games that are like that, either with new entries or just being so good, but especially as a f2p mmo that really is pretty f2p friendly, it's impressive. I'm unsure why the gameplay comes off as so fun, but it does. I've tried most classes over the years and all have been fun to play more or less. not to mention the social aspect is phenomenal.

Most of my cons are very much from the perspective of a /really/ old timer player. I do feel as though the game is too quick/simple in a lot of ways now. There's a ton of content that's just skipped over as you rush to essentially the same few areas in the late game. I do appreciate that the same rate of progression is now found at 200 (the game becomes challenging again, parties are required, dungeons to run) but it's a shame that Jienda largely doesn't matter anymore. S1 (especially early S1, imagine a time before Toad Island or Spooky existed LOL) was fairly brutal and slow, probably too much so, but I enjoyed that there were more milestones along the way. Getting to 80 to advance class was a big achievement, people would celebrate that the same way 200 is now. following the 3rd job quests were fun, moreso (imo) than 4ths, and even had split paths/areas/objectives for different classes. Brutal though they were, subs were the same way. I actually though S2 struck a nice balance (I stopped playing due to life shortly after S2 dropped). It was pretty quick up front but slowed down much sooner.

Either way the way LT is currently is very good for returning players (fast to regain progress) and new players don't know what they missed so they're all good too xD it's fun having the game super populated again~

sadly i'll have to give it a 20/100.  mostly because of so much wasted potential.

    pros:
    nice beautiful graphics n skills
    diverse classes... (somewhat)
    huge world
friendly community (when ladrama ain't goin on lol)
fast and/or decent progress for earlier lvls

    cons:
enchant system still feel broken as heck
class unbalance (but that is kinda expected)
not so diverse classes (despite having many different classes they all seem like they boil down to damage) (i.e. tank classes is almost nonexistent, one support that's op now, etc.)
quest line pretty much disappears after 190s
some quest end up grindy or slow due to lack of enemies in the area
lvl from 190-200 is like running into a brick wall, and slowin to a crawl. (turns to a painful limp after 200)
the game gets extremely monotonous around 190+

so yea, i wouldn't mind suggestin some things to help out, but i don't think there's a suggestion forum yet and it don't seem like they're lookin for ideas.  plus they just started so ima give em time.

        33 /  100

    Pros:
    - A 2D MMO; I like side scrollers
    - Graphics and animation quality is pretty good; it's significantly greater than Maplestory.
    - A decent amount of base classes
    - Fast progression from 1~100, alright from 100~140, slows down from there a bit more until 185, which gets worse.
    - Currently no real need for ely until 200 with enchanting / upgrading.
    - Only really something to play with friends

    Cons:
    - There's no class that uses rifles. I like them, and never seen a class that uses rifles
    - There isn't any real class diversity anymore. Everything is a damage dealing class. (Pop Star has support magic, but it can be a damage class)
    - Has a typical design of MMOs where damage and soloing is emphasized in priority.
    - The Jiendia continent is pretty much pointless. Quests are extremely streamlined that makes leveling pointless.
    - From 185+ quests begin to run thin, and from 190+ onwards it becomes a slow crawl to level up further. Like someone above me said. It becomes extremely monotonous, which makes me play a different game instead.
    - Also the typical design of MMOs where the newest content is the most powerful. (i.e. Monk can be stacked for damage real easily, Wanderer's katana attacks are extremely easy to build up damage)
    - Also has the typical design problem where new content is almost always for endgame.
    - Enchanting sucks. I've seen games with 90% chances of success. La Tale's 95% is not 95%, which I really believe there's something fishy going on there since OGP.
    - Never really like the concept of equipment blowing up upon enchanting failure.
    - Fire Wall really strict on latency input.
    - Subclasses being a thing. Never liked the concept since logically it makes no sense that your character has a separate level than the main class. It would've made more sense to merge subclasses and main classes together since the whole point of subclass back then was to make people busy...
    - This game being Korean and other Asian originated games having a strange fascination to the word Judgment. (i.e. the name they gave to Bladeslingers.) That's like calling a class 'Enjoyment' or 'Sleepiness'; it makes no sense!
    - Engineers / Star Seekers not using shotguns. I always see Engineer types uses shotguns and I love them.
    - The removal of daggers for the Sorcerer branch. It would've been cooler if there was magic-imbued elemental or psionic dagger attacks; something unique for the class, but nope. They just lazily removed them (Personal bias: I like the concept of magic daggers)
    - Fuuma Shurikens being called Spiral Swords. It sounds stupid.
    - Highlander looks like it's own subclass to Rogue Master being that they both have Ninja influences, yet for whatever reason it diverges from Hero and Wind Stalker respectively.
    - The removal of elemental magazines from Duelist onwards. I like the effects they have.
    - The removal of mastery stacking wrecks my dual weapon builds, which I really did like to do.
    - Pets are still not bankable (Supposedly kLT fixed that)
    - The removal of certain skills prior to Season 2 (Giant Swing, Assassin Dagger, etc.)
    - The removal of the ability to use Tier I and II skills. I expected 3rd class to use Tier I, II and III skills, but that didn't happen.
    - The damage font. It looks weird.
    - Phantom Mage doesn't really look like a 'Phantom Mage'. I would've called it 'Hammerspace Fairy/Mage' because of the attacks and the wings.
    - Orbs being a pointless weapon type. It should've had exclusive skills for the Sorcerer branch similar to the Black Jade's Lantern mode for wanderer.
    - Soul Breaker should've been a third branch to Magician.
    - Monk, based on it's class abilities and animations should've been Battle Mage, which should've been a fourth branch to Magician.
    - I don't understand the name of 'Psykicker' when they don't seem to have any Psionic powers to begin with. That class's skills really should've merged with Saint since it seems like a very similar fighting style.
    - Terror Knights not being able to equip a shield despite only visibly using one gauntlet
    - Terror Knights sounds like a subclass fitting for Saint; like as in trading speed and agility for more power.
    - Wanderer looked like it should've been a third branch to Warrior.
    - The upcoming class, Agni, seems more like fitting subclass to Hero instead of it's own class.
    - Engistars/Swordians MG's unique behavior being weapon level restricted. There should've been a 'Power Core' item for the Elemental Stone slot that is the main source of power for the class (similarly to magic classes), then use any MG model you want.
    - The game's recent art has a strange emphasis on the eyes, being so jagged and dark with massive lashes. It's so jarring to me that makes me think they're putting on heavy amounts of mascara.
    - Engineer not having a second branch. Actoz! Get on it!
    - Engineer just having a fire spitter for a "turret". It should've been a gatling gun...

I would give it a 100. But it still failed on me.

in all seriousness though. for me. it's a solid 80. Because while this game does rack my nerves. I'll always come back to it. and it's not often that a game can do that to me.

It's not a game for everyone. but it's one I'll gladly play for a few more years.

In its current state I would give 70% mainly because we are lacking things in FS. If not for this I would rate it 80%.

I like La Tale but I don't like games that are similar to it such as Maplestory.

I would have to give La Tale a 75/100 since there are little things that bug me.
  • CyrilicCyrilic Posts: 109Member Trainee
In its current state, I give LaTale a 70/100 Which is actually an improvement.

    Pros:

-Character customization, between the constant new faces and eyes being introduced and fashion that's interchangable piece by piece (top bottom gloves shoes) rather than general coveralls. It's extremely personalized. Combine this with the sheer number of classes in the game and LT is practically a OC generator.

-Animation/Art: For a 2d game, the  character sprites are actually capable of some pretty complex animations and motions for over the top skills with few awkward sprites in between. On top of this, all of the fashion in the game is designed to work with all of these animations, making a single piece of cosmetics for a game with this many animations and sprites is not a simple feat. The 10+ year old game may show its age, but the animation mechanics and all the work behind it impresses me to this day. They developed a really good system for it.

The rest of the game is also full of gorgeous art and maps, and some pretty unique character designs. Despite some reuse which is natural in all MMOs..

-Class concepts, rather than stick to the generic base set of classes and weaponry, LaTale goes above and beyond to make sure all sorts of unique weapons and styles are at your fingertips. Divine staffs, Magic Cards, Lanterns (?), Gunblades, and giant mecha. Very few games can compare to LT's variety.

    Cons

-Enchanting and Upgrading: Nothing about it is fun/rewarding, The way LT is designed makes progression very stressful. Other MMOs are streamlined to a simple Common/Rare/Epic system followed by RNG upgrading. LT is stuck on a durability and enchant PLUS upgrading system. One drop must pass several barriers to becoming usable, as opposed to other game's 2-3 barriers at most.

First  Two are the drop barriers;  Barrier 1: Must have sufficient durability. Barrier 2: It must have at least 1 option in the case of weapons to even be workable. Failing either of these steps means your drop is useless.

Third barrier is the reoption barrier: constant failure will eat away at your precious ely until the roll you need comes forward. Failing this barrier can simply cost you tons but can eventually be surpassed.

Fourth is the enchant stat gain barrier, which even with 100% success rate, which is a costly investment in itself. Can still be failed if you roll poorly consistently. Fifth is the Durability barrier: if you roll high dura loss constantly you can still fail to make a sufficient piece of equipment.

If you succeed in passing all of these preceeding barriers, the 6th barrier is  Lv 11+, which failure can result in losing equipment and starting over from 0 all over again.

Finally the 7th gate of hell is upgrading, while fortunately failure no longer results in equip loss (dark days) this can also become a costly ely sink if failed repeatedly.

This system is obtuse, frustrating and complicated for the average new player. And by the time the average player hits a point of satisfaction with one piece of gear, its less satisfaction and more "Thank god its over, i lost so much ely on this, but on to the next one..."

-Exponential progression: I started lv 200 dealing damage and every LV 190 -200 dungeon was still a chore and a painful slog.after spending a month at lv 200 and just now hitting 201 i now deal 10x the damage I used to from when i first reached it. Progression is definitely real but to this extent is overkill.

Not only can this demotivate your friends who are the same level and make them feel like a burden or being carried, this also contributes to the leech-reliant environment LT has; its literally more time efficient to just pay someone whos already crossed all the RNG you have yet to deal with to progress, than to actually put in the time yourself cause later players are just that much stronger than you. This results in parties becoming difficult to find over time because no one wants to burn their resources on potential failure. Everyone's looking for that carry and the game's design is partially to blame.

-Unclear progression: Tons of useless reopt options, systems with no forced quest to explain things, gear for similar levels but varying levels of useful or uselessness. Nothing is clear and new players have no idea where to go. Ingame information needs to be more clear to not alienate and lose potential players and its a issue that holds the game back for years. I've met lv 200 players who didn't even know gems could be enchanted. The game does very little to tell you what's possible with all the game's systems and that some of the hurdles that seem impossible can be achieved with this knowledge. Actoz has a lot to learn and the game really needs streamlining in gearing progression.

There's a lot more i could type but i already threw a wall up. Overall, you really gotta love LT, your community, or even your class and character;  for what it is to put up with Latale's weak mechanics and unclear and RNG heavy progression that rarely feels rewarding. Actoz is clearly better artists than they are game designers, but i have a thing for art so I enjoy it regardless.

I have one big complain, succes rate for upgrades on weapon and weapon drops, cause it alway bags drops random weapons, should be good idea to add own weapon drop, so, no fights at looting and a better succes for weapons upgrades.

Fashion will be implemented slowly, like other items, but we need what Japan LaTale did, get their own fashions, as i said on other post, like a spiderman suit, batman, or what ever you can think

I dont complain about puzzles cause it is good to them to stay like they are now to avoid inflation, but yet, inflation is getting slowly inside the game.

I would like to give a 95 but i will give a 90 cause of succes rates of weapons and drop sistem.

    70/100
    Pros
    >The art. But - lately the redesigns and new NPCs are terrible.
    >The music and animation.
    >Class system - the older classes (warrior, wizard, knight, explorer) have better, more complex systems. Skills are unique (except for buffs like [special] and Release).
    >Social aspect - parties, guilds are super important
    >Less P2W

    Cons
    >Enchant rates (failing at 95%, 99%). Weapon gets destroyed. Time consuming.
    >Simplification of original maps, deletion of some maps + skills
    >Simplification of job changes (complex and interesting, but now you skip Xenadia)
    >Simplification of legend quests (everyone does the same quests, hardly any difference between classes like in S2 2nd job change)
    >Power creep aka. DPS is no.1 priority so strengths between classes are not that different.
    >Repetitive questing. Kill the same monsters, only more of them! Repetitive grinding. Sky Coli, again and again! Higher level maps need more field, town maps and less focus on dungeons.

Right now i would say 80/100

its amazing seeing the game populated again! :)

but the Level up gear, as amazing as it is to help players from the older server catch up to they're older characters, it pretty much means you can skip most of the game up until level 190 :( which is a sad thought as the latale world is beautiful and should be experienced by all.

    @higurashirika Regarding the wizard thing--
A second branch for Arch Mage makes no sense.  AM used to be Elemental Master.  The class title itself is rather self explanatory.  Other than controlling the 4 elements, what else would they do?

    Also-- Please be aware that the thing that enables Arch Mages to attack/use their skills is the elemental stone.  The staff and orb is just a decorative damage adder with some different combo commands.  ' 3';;

@monusha *had to re-read that massive list of cons I've made*
I didn't really mean for other branches to branch off from Elemental Master because yeah that would make no sense. I meant it as alternative 2nd classes for Magician. Like right now, currently Magician has either Sorcerer or Bard to branch off to. Sorcerer is an advanced Magician while Bard specializes more into support and they both have their own progression line.

In my head I was thinking:
Magician (The basic dabbler of magic) to then advance to
-> Sorcerer (A magician that learns more powerful elemental magic)
-> Bard (A magician specializing in magic through music and provides support)
-> Soul Breaker (Similar to how a mage would start dabbling into dark magic and specialize in it)
-> Card Master (A magician that specializes with card-imbued magic that summons spirits to attack or whatever)
-> Monk (A magician that specializes it's magic into a more physically active fighting style)

Arch Mage's staff isn't really just a decorative damage adder. It's mid-air Hard Attack acts as a quick dash jump; something that's really useful. It even has that semi-blink back dash for the ground Hard Attack. The orb does nothing, but makes you aesthetically float with useless normal attacks.

Personally, it would've been cooler if the orb weapon itself could've come with Soul Breaker / Card Master abilities, and for the staff to have Phantom Mage / Monk abilities. It would made the class really dynamic to play.

The game is good on a basic level. I feel that it's really fun till about level 200. After that it's incredibly farm heavy, monotonous, boring, heavy emphasis on soloing because you're rewarded more, significant class imbalance, the amount of ely required at end game you have to farm on a daily basis. I could go on... Then we can start talking about fashion shop

Not sure why we are rating latale with predisposition thoughts on the game as old as it is.
but eh the server/management i will give a 60/100 since, there has been little addressing to the bugs in the game ( I.E Firewall ) and sending a ticket we just get a " we know we are working on it" with little to no detail.

as for latale itself : 80/100
mainly just due to enchanting and upgrade mechanics also the loot system most games have it to where its separated by class and you can roll for the item/ Cannot roll if its not for your class. any additional equipment can be FFA.

not to mention looking through these cons, most are due to either bugs, or changes made by the developer. and majority of these changes are not horrible, rather good .
(the changes to AM dropping the ridiculous dagger skills like, why.)

It sucks, but if I were honest I'd have to say 30/100. Maybe even less.

The art and music are great and there are things about the game I really enjoy, it's why I stuck with it so long. But the fact that upon hitting 200 it feels like hitting a giant wall... eh. Trying to advance beyond that point is such a chore it just feels like a job. And I don't play MMOs to feel like I'm playing a job. I play for fun and stress relief. And those things haven't been a part of my LT experience lately. Even tried joining a guild to see if that'd help but if anything it made my experience worse (though that's not the game's fault admittedly, just a rotten luck of the draw when picking what guild to join, and what winded up being the final nail in the coffin for me :s)

I tried giving the game an honest shot after the move to Papaya, I really did. I was hopeful. But I think I have to face facts that LT isn't for me anymore. I had some good times but they're long gone. My hopes of improvement through Papaya aren't there because honestly I'm not really impressed with how they've run things thus far.

All the pros and cons, it seems like everybody has already said. I'm gonna go ahead and give this a 50/100 including all those.

The con I especially hate is obviously the muddling and nerve-wracking stage around lv 200. This is the stage where I'm assuming many players stop playing because they simply don't know where to go and how to continue. Everything depends on your damage and farming abilities, which is tedious and time consuming. And maybe I've just had the wrong experiences, but I don't think the la tale community is all that friendly. I've met some awesome people on la tale, and this was during OGP time when people were so much nicer and inclusive, but now, the competition is ridiculous. Basically, the high stay high, the low stay low, and  I feel like it's a p2w game if you want to progress and be successful. Players aren't given the opportunity or information to progress in a simpler, more efficient way that is fun and adventurous rather than confusing and a plain chore.

    75/100

    Reasons:
    + Good music
    + Good art style
    + Different classes and weapons

    - Leveling past 200 is so god damn grueling. I'm not saying it should be easy and they should just hand levels to us on a silver platter but a lot of us just don't have the kind of time like SOME people to stay playing all day long, each day, 24/7 in sky coli or wherever just to level up once.

    - Stats can be a little p2w in the end cause you're gonna need to have pets for critical damage and whatnot. The free pets they give you sometimes just don't cut it.

    - This game came out in 2006. It's the year 2017 and we still don't have basic resolution options for 1920x1080, 2560x1440, or 3840x2160.

    Pros
+Art style: Maps look gorgeous, monster design is interesting, and skill animation is cutesy yet still cool to look at.

+Game play: Game play wise La Tale doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it also doesn't do anything wrong in terms of being a 2D side scroller. I put this in a pro because I love these genres of MMOs.

    Cons
-Enchantment system: The current system is outdated and to be frank mean spirited. Having your gear get destroyed at 90 something percent is not fun nor interactive its just time consuming and frustrating to say the least. Personally I want every item in this to be changed to be like Demigod's weapon where it doesn't get destroyed upon failure. Or add a system where destroyed gears will turn in to a fragment that have all the stats, and you can forge that fragment to the same type of gear. Until an overhaul is made to the enchantment system it will continue to drag this game's overall quality down in my opinion.

-Only one server on the server select screen: While I do realize this game isn't really that popular seeing just one server just makes the game seem more dead than it really is.

  • hottiehottie Posts: 0Member Beginner
I will get straight to the point with cons, and there is only one that really stands out.

As already mentioned by a few, the Enchant System itself.  It's so asinine, I don't know anyone who enjoys it.  This is the primary reasons why I've stopped playing it and why I choose not to migrate my account for the legacy stuff.  It's an endless cycle all the way to endgame, refer to Cyrilic's post above.

I really did enjoy this game at one point, it was fun and entertaining.  I especially loved some of the beautiful graphics, colors, background music, and the art style.  I absolutely adore the emotes in this game, it's really funny and cute.  Sadly these things don't make this game enjoyable for long.

    My final verdict: 50/100
