Papaya Play : La Tale's Future

iTechnologyiTechnology Posts: 0Member Beginner
It feels like it was just yesterday we were playing on OGP. Thousands of hours and dollars invested into the game only to be taken away overnight with little to no compensation. You probably can understand the hostile feelings that some may have towards La Tale at this point. So I have a question, what countermeasures have Papaya Play implemented in order to prevent what happened on OGP from happening here? When you take a step back and look at other games that are similar to La Tale, for example; MapleStory, never before have they had an incident like this. Maple Story global was released in 2005, and it's been a little over 12 years and has never faced the dilemma of wiping their servers. With every second that is played and invested into the game, the question that lurks in everybody's mind is "my time being wasted here?", nobody plays the game only to have their progress wiped after a few years, especially veteran or pros of the game.

I do want to hear some opinions on the matter and if possible, a reply from an official staff member of papaya play regarding the matter.

OGP did... a LOT wrong that lead up to the server's demise.

Among the biggest (To actoz, probably not us) was of course, the monetization model issues. The worst in my book, was trying to make Normal puzzles (at one point) and Super Puzzles a cash only thing.

While im sure this got OGP a pretty penny, its likely the biggest offender in screwing OGP's economy over so badly. In kLT its likely the biggest ely sink in the game and keeps the economy from inflating too hard by keeping the demand for ely high. Over the years you could see OGP and actoz trying their hardest to get that ely out of the game: Several Ely boxes promising the Almighty skills among other essentials were introduced. None of them could match the potential sink that Super Puzzles could have been, but yet OGP was too stubborn to stop relying on the coupons for money.

Only towards the end did OGP get tough on it and finally reduce super puzzle pricing to combat the economic issues, something i suggested well before death... However, hyper inflating ely upgrade costs towards endgame was not taken well by the community.

Throw in the issues that Ely gain artifacts brought, as well as the side effect of IDR generating lots of boss armor to dump for more ely and the problem was compounded.

Problem #2 was, oddly enough, OGP giving TOO much away.

We'll start with the elephant in the now closed room:Permanent statted fashion and Effect Rings. Good on paper, problem: once they added perma fashion and you manage to sell it to the existing market. You need to make a new one, one thats stronger, and stronger, and stronger. While ogp was making money this way, the power creep was causing tons of problems. So much so that actoz decided it was out of hand and something needed to be done.

Worse yet, some of the stats were implemented on accident, 25% max dmg on shoes? That was meant to be +25 attack, but OGP was too scared of taking back what people paid for, this caused an already bad power creep issue to get worse, and eventually actoz hit that breaking point.

Artifacts, while designed with players needs in mind, also hurt the ability to make money from boosts, because you either can make it expensive enough so that you make a considerable amount off of them for the amount of time they provide, or make them accessible enough people won't complain about availability. You literally cannot balance that easily, especially in an economy where people have too much ely on hand and can just buy up everything they need for rainy days, some to the point of saving up for monsoon season.

Fact of the matter is, OGP kept taking the easy road on making money that it started hitting a wall in making money cause players had too much and too many things were devalued.

How do you sell astros to the player that has everything? You really can't.  Just compare the number of players actively selling LTC, to the people selling astros closer to the game's end, before the whole dead space before closing announcement lol.

Papaya is aware of some of the mistakes OGP made, and is actively avoiding them, such as the super puzzle blunder thankfully. As long as papaya makes more sustainable choices, rather than going for cash grabs that only work short term, we shouldn't worry too much. Some things need addressing still, but it's a wait and see on that.

The problem of the weapons are not the ely you need to upgrade them, is the succes rate to upgrade them, you need to much weapons to just 1 upgrade and now idr doesnt help, i in OGP for 1 month wasnt able to get 1 sigle spear at dyna, and even worst, it took me just 6 months to get my dyna spear +1, succes rate play a lot of the nescesiti of ely and gameplay, there is no proble with badges at 30% and i know weapons are what it give us streng, but giving 7-6-5-4% succes rate is not reasonable, i think it would be better if weapons 30-25-20-15%, why? cause the drops are shit! and for even 1 single succes i will have to wait another 6 months of weekend playings to get just and of course "if" i got the fking spear, gems are well balanced with the 70% succes, weapons are crap and on the way to get just 1 weapon you loose nearly everything to get it, and dont let me talk about AH prices for dyn weapons

@iTechnology you wrote quite a fair amount of complete wrong, nonsense,

First of all maplestory was never bought or sold to any company.. it was one and only called Nexon, second infact when Eu server closed down for transfer to Gms. all data was being transfered. cause it wasn't a new company.

third. Maplestory Europe is a dead as hell server, and even Reboot + normal Gms servers are rapidly going down due to the innability of nexon to fix their crap. Unstable servers 24/7. and hackers everywhere. etc thats just to name a few things.

so finally Latale the reason was obviously Ogp had to force sell Latale to another company cause they were running out of resources, and from what i can remember on Ogp they only had a handful of people working on the game.

second thing is as some other people mentioned. ogp were greedy as hell and started making items that actually never existed. namely artifact items, which no longer exist cause we have KLT (Korean Latale), and many other item's were removed,

now Papaya so far has done nothing but a great job of keeping a clean server by all mean's.
second there's no absurd paywall anywere. Papaya stated already that Prime potions, aka faster leveling should be a premium feature, hell look at World of warcraft. Final fantasy Xiv reborn, etc. all of them have buy max lvl characters for alot of money.

third, Papaya already know the problem that lot of people will or already has quit due to either forgetting that ogp was the greedy company that added in items to get more money. or cause u can't bank pets yet. which comes in about 6 month's apox. or less

fourth. so far we had a Weekly Dev blog which i like cause this gives us somewhat a insight on what is going on,

the Future i so far can see is

Aki Update around a month after summer ends. which is in September.
Agni Update new class and pets bankable. should hit somewhere close to Xmas or early 2018.
after that i sadly dont know much yet. but this game has a massive potential and Papaya will i believe get this game going..

for people who say latale is p2w. sorta it is.  but honestly it doesn't bother me cause they are just wasting their money progressing to a place where no one else is.

however Latale is more Pay to progress faster. like they have in Maplestory,Wow,FFXIV, etc.

Honestly I have similar sentiments but the fact of the matter is all things come to an end. So OGP is done and now it's time for Papaya. Now according to most of the players Papaya is moving in the right direction(I kinda disagree, especially at first). But I will say that in the end it's up to you to think about whether you feel as though it's worth continuing to play or not. I find it very time consuming at end game and I'm not 14 anymore, I'm 22 so the time is more valuable.

I feel like for the near future 2-3 years latale should be fine, but as the content progresses and requires more time, the game will become more stratified. That's just how it is.

The game is heading in the right direction, and im glad OGP didnt renew the contract with latale
( ogp didnt sell latale because its just a client to the game there is a difference OGP
doesn't own LT to sell it. the game was Contracted to OGP )  to give another server host/ dev company to take the wheel in a new direction, it happened before (cabal / Rumble fighter) and those two games have really benefited from being in their own bubble.

as for the expected "CashGrab" notations, please be aware this is a NA/EU server.
korean/Japan Dev's make B A N K from games that go KR/JP> NA since the value of USD is high there. so figuratively, mostly if not every F2P game in NA is literally just a huge money pit.

Papaya kinda already addressed that artifcats wont be a thing nor Ely gain rate potions (for now) and hopefully IDR pots too. so thats already a great start since getting a prime ely arti= 7 days of ely farm.
