Does anyone else miss mining?

Like, going to the Forest Mine or the Crystal Mine to get minerals?

I use to spend hours and hours in the Crystal Mine just watching TV, YouTubes, listening to a podcast, or audio book.  Then make bank by selling all the stuff I mined up.

Now though, crafting is so simplified that everyone can farm up the stuff that everyone needs.

    Well, I don't miss it.

Sure, it was one nice way to make ely, but it wasn't great at all. The mining emote is just boring and semi-useless, for the lv 2 you had to farm a whole crapton lot on Spriggans, and even after a few weeks of farming, you were not sure to get one. And lv3 was just minebot which is spending money to have a bankable pet that... mines. Yay. The bankable option was its one and only redeeming feature to me though.

Then you had the option of just going to kill mobs in the forest mine, to sell the mats to people. Which is exactly what we're doing here too : farm some mobs/bosses > Get equips > Decompose into mats (or Sell to NPC in which case last step doesn't apply) > Sell to people.

There was also the problem of space. Where do you keep all these gems when they don't sell? Certainly not inside your 3/4-line inventory. And you won't be buying all that space for all 3 characters at first now do you? (Unless you have a lot of ely/IRL money to spend).

At first, when I came back for wanderer class, I was like "WTF? THERE'S NO MINING? HOW DO I MAKE MAH ELY NOW", but it got replaced really easily by the "ye olde" OK/Chunsik/Coa/Phoenix farming for shards.

Also, about the "crafting is so simplified" part. Everyone could mine too, in the past. People just didn't have the patience to, that's all. It's a tedious thing to do, and it takes time from your progression. You were just slowed by a useless wall.

I do sorta look back fondly at all the hours I spent with friends inside the Forest Mine, and I do wish it was still in the game...

But I do also like the new system, which because it's so stupidly simple, ends up being way more useful and practical to a knucklehead like me. I wouldn't mind merging them together such that we retained the shard system, but also had the option of mining as a more time efficient method to gather shards.

[*bop*, it me, shaddura. We were in a guild together in Trove. 'ya probably don't remember me much, but it's fun to see you around.]

Yeah it was a tedious wall, but for those that had the commitment to do it were able to turn that into a profession.  Back on OGP a few years ago, I was the go to guy for minerals in my guild, and even some people outside my guild.

But now with Shards, you can't really be That Guy.

Not totally true. You can still be "That Guy" due to the neverending demand of shards. Just that the way you'll approach this isn't with a pickaxe, but with a weapon. Nothing stops you from butchering monsters mindlessly, dropping weapons at the same time for mats, and maybe making some reputation while you're at it.

Even better, you can keep those to yourself, rep farm, get yourself some hammers and make gem creation your new job. There's always a way to do things like a profession. Just find the way you want to do it.

(Although, yeah, for now due to the leveling event, there's not much shards being used. But wait for enchant events to pop up. The normal shards demand will just explode.)

Main answer. no. The shards make things a lot easier, and I don't have to hunt someone down for a yellow topaz.

Remember mining pink tourmaline for ages so you could level up the weapons that dropped from bosses way back when?

I'd say I spent almost as much time in the mine as I did leveling. I had every single class.

I do not miss it at all.

The only thing worth missing about it was the social aspect of sharing a map.

half of my LT friends came from mining back then, without mobs to distract, some very cool subjects came up. Some of the people i still talk to now came from mining back then.

Aside from that, no. The old mining system clogged up inventories, made upgrading one weapon take forever cause you had to move stuff around and find -the right- ore.

The one good thing though; The time that the economy relied on mining was probably the most economically stable time period of OGPLT's life. bosses dropping multiple bags changed that in time.

I both want and don't want to know how much time we all spent in that bloody mine, Reece.
