Papaya LaTale - slow and greedy?

Ladies and gentlemen! My mane is TotalBiscuit. I am here to ask and answer one simple question

I would like to discuss the current state of LaTale. Recently we got something we were waiting for and never got on OGP - 10th anniversary events disguised as Papaya Relaunch Festival. And I am here not to complain about this bit of content. What I want to bring up is the quality of recently released gamble boxes (Iris box) and FashionShop update.

To be frank both are nothing but lackluster. Some people claim to have opened over 300 boxes without getting a single pet, which the very reason people are buying these boxes in the first place. Here, take a look at this video and read comments:

Next, we got new flash sales. I have no clue what Papaya GMs are thinking but getting 2-3 new pets or fashion sets a month is... really slow. Impossibly slow. This will be the slowest update pace I have ever witnessed in my life.

Given curent pet circulation speed one would have to wait for, maybe 6 months, for certain pets to appear in FS again. This is unheard of and must be fixed immediately. One update every 2 weeks - this is how it should be. Ideally - every 7 days.

What do you, people, think? Obviously I am just a cat and may not see things for what they really are.

Im gonna say give it a chance from here on out.

I noticed something about the papaya relaunch festival; Papaya waited until this event was ready until they ran advertisement articles on several websites, gamasutra,mmorpg.net and so forth.

This leads me to believe that rereleasing LT the same day ogp closed was actually a rushed idea, and the game wasn't actually planned for a full release until now. I've never really heard of a mmo re-opening the same day it went down so this would explain a lot.

I'm gonna wait now that this event is all set up and say that maybe now we'll start getting more content in our regular updates, i don't think they had time to settle into their jobs yet. but things will speed up now that this relaunch stuff is out the way.

That said. Yeah, i think the boxes are only worth selling for casual spenders, the pets they put inside are whale endeavors.

However, one thing i really consider an improvement is the fact that a huge majority of good pets are actually direct buyable this time around, if you remember. OGP was obsessed with dumping EVERY new pet release into a gamble box, while the rates were better... you could still easily run 60$+ getting a pet you can score for 18-25$ here. Good ones at that. Though i wasn't around for the flash sales closer to OGP's death, maybe they sold some the way papaya is now? idk.

So while it could be better, im willing to deal with this as opposed to EVERY new pet being """premium""". I still am never gonna touch a lolbox again though.

So it's just like OGP LT... but with KLT rates!

More pets at a faster pace just means you are forced to spend more money. Slower pace honestly is helping people out because it makes it more realistic to keep up with. The problem is maintaining availability of already released pets. Already, people are finding themselves needing things from the previous flash sale or boxes and finding themselves wanting because they're simply not available anymore, with no clue as to the re-release and when that might ever happen.

The better solution isn't more sales cycled at a faster pace. The better solution is continuing to release new pets for a full update duration (as we are now), while recycling older releases on a more frequent cycle that happens concurrently.

So, let me give an example. Let's say you release a new pet in a flash sale that lasts four weeks. Alongside that flash sale, you could have four, separate, single-week flash sales, each with a different pet from previous updates. So week one could have one pet, week two could have another, and so on. This would keep pet release rate tame while maintaining availability of older pets.

Papaya's fashion shop model (see: KLT's fashion shop model) is one I am generally completely ok with. They still need to flesh it out with more items and options, but the premise and execution is fine. The gamble boxes I've already voiced my opinion on in my own thread, including the video, but I consider that a separate issue from the fashion shop itself.

Tl;dr: I'm actually completely fine with our cash model They just need to work to keep the availability of previously released items balanced so that it's fair for new/returning players, and gamble box quality needs to improve.

I can sort of see what you mean but who knows they may take a month to get out the bugs or give people a little bit of time to enjoy the current pets/items/updates/etc. Having new things every week is nice but after you get it so much you start to lose interest in it right? Quality over quantity may play a part in this too ;).

p.s. Quantity is being considered as time right now...
