Server wipe

noobnessnoobness Posts: 60Member Beginner
Please wipe the server and start everyone on an equal playing field. Something like you did for La Tale. The game is so old and is ruled by the top 1%. New players feel overwhelmed. A lot of people feel they can never be elite at battle unless they spend tons of money to catch up which in turn discourages new blood. Most people who say "i will quit if they do that" so be it. You will be easily replaced by new players wanting a fresh start with a fixed economy. Lots of perks go with a fresh start. Older players get a chance to see why they fell in love with the game in the first place. Please PLEASE make UWO players noobs again!!!!

I understand your point, but it will not be easy to replace players that leave. Most people will play a few months and move on. They will quit before they even begin to spend money on the game.

Do not forget that these people you want to kick to the curb are the people who kept this game going. Without these people, there would be no UWO for you to play.

No one is kicking anyone to the "curb" they have the option to keep playing if they want or they can cry and quit. If they were smart they would see the pros of a fresh start and capitalize on it. But if they quit then they are already tired of the game and was going to quit anyway in a month or so.

what if you keep gama server as it is...

and create another new server to people that favor wipe?

everything is on gama thats the problem they will likely implement a cash shop item that allows between server item or ship or cash transfers and will ruin a fresh server
a wipe will even the playing field for starts for player market for skills for lvl u also remove the need for mass multi accounts, u fix many problems with the game currently by doing a server wipe sure u may loose 200 players but  u gain so much more from those that stick around and those that join as new players, there won't be a massive gap in the economy between new players and vets there won't be ships going for 40bilion ducats because the market can't support it, i have personally bought a MAV for 80mil ducats 7 years ago my first NC ship, that was alot of money now 40bil for a ship is overkill, no way in a year will a new player have that kind of cash and the market is still inflating. ship costs are skyrocketing, a wipe would fix that and cause a mass influx of astro items being bought to get that lil edge over the competition

Did you mean that erasing all characters is the real solution to balance the game...

...because the gama characters will eventually find a way to invade the other server?

I have many characters in uncharted waters and have played many years, i fully support a new server.

If papaya games starts a new server along side the old server they will quickly find out the new server will be much more popular, i can guarantee that. Many old timers will come back to play but not without a fresh start.

The game is seriously that good, only that it has been ruined in the past by greedy hosts.  i sincerely hope papaya play will give this game the love and attention it deserves.

If I read in between the lines, some are opting for a server swipe every few years to make sure the gap between vets and new players will be restored? I say every few years becouse within a few years you will end up again is such a situation right?
Then what has it all been worth so far being playing and supporting the game for many years?

I told it before and I will repeat it another million times if needed, a wipe of the server is not the right solution here, the elder generation of players who carry the game in their harts will get punished inspite of all their previous efforts while those who claim to be sincerely players but actually destroy the game by their deeds and mean tricks will simply restart their mean tricks on the new server.
I rather think we should ask ourselves the question if a swipe is the right solution. Maybe we simply need something in between what we have not yet thought of. To please both newbies, helped out in-game by the sincerely UWO veteran and those who prefere to start the game all over with fair chances to make it to the top as well without facing the misery of messed up economy, tricky pirates and...

I kindly request all of u to think about a suitable solution for both mentionned above rather than to argue, yes or no to swipe the server for what reason ever...

Lets head for an "ideal / balanced" solution together!

    Regards,

If the server gets wiped I'll still play of course, but that makes paying for astro items a lot more shaky. Why pay money for something that may get deleted and you can't do anything about it? I'll be playing on papaya as soon as the launch happens, but it will be a long time, if ever, before I spend another cent on the game if my past investments are wiped out.

Whether there's wipe or no wipe now, there will always be a group of players asking for a wipe after another few years.

However one thing is certain. If there's going to be a reset now, I will not trust that the game will not do a second or third reset in the future. I'll therefore simply move on to something else.

A server wipe would be a fatal blow to UWO. A few older players might come back, but they'd be largely clueless about all the new content; meanwhile, a sea of new players would be trying to figure out what to do themselves, and the veteran players who poured their money and hours of effort into supporting UWO, particularly those who produced player guides and strategy tutorials without any compensation for their troubles, would likely withdraw in protest, taking their knowledge and resources with them.

And it's not as if the troubles would end there. UWO is a delicate balance of player countries managed by player actions and player investments/donations; resetting everything to zero would lock a great deal of content out of reach for several months at the very least, possibly longer. New World cities in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and Lima all require donations, every single town in UWO cannot yield certain items/recipes/trade goods without sufficient development, and that requires the time, resources, and ducats provided by the current GAMA playerbase. Erase that, and UWO will become a ghost server in no time, because it requires a great deal of patience and commitment to get started; without higher level players to mentor and help younger ones as they're starting out, many new players will just leave and find something else to do with their time and money.

To Papaya Play staff: please keep in mind, those calling loudest for a server wipe do not represent the majority of UWO's playerbase, and often in fact are those who've been kicked out from time to time, if not banned outright. This game isn't something simple you can just start over... it is an entire ecosystem, filled with multiple layers of support, connectivity, and to wipe all that out would be catastrophic for everyone involved. I apologize for sounding so gloomy and doomy, but I'm not exaggerating on how inter-connected this game's content is, and the last thing I think you'd want to do would be to launch it without any infrastructure in place for the new players arriving to see what it's all about.

UWO is a magnificent game. Let's keep it that way by not destroying all the accomplishments of the past 6 or so years of its lifespan, aye?

I Don t know why everyone have a problem with the old players in the game. Reseting everything whould make all of them loose years of work, huge amount of real money invested in this game, skills and development wich require months and years to grow up. Someone said that You need to invest alot of money to catch with the old players. Well some of the old players allso invested alot of money to get where they are now. Beside that ,they offer alot of help to the new players, infos and suport. And any new player could eventually catch with them If invest a small amount of money and alot of work. I play for 2 months and with some money and help from the old players plus alot of playing i got very far,so nothing is Impossible If You put alot of work in it.

Well..some people have an issue with old players in this game.First of all this top players you all talk about, spend alot of money, real money in this game, years of playing and learning and helped a huge amount of new players who join this game.
Why don t you invest some money in the game and you will go up much faster and maybe one day you will be at their level.
You don t have to invest..you can play for free, but than don t cry because some players have much more than you and are much stronger than you, because they pay for that.
And with their investment the servers are runing and you can play.Nothing is free in this world and any game and company need money to work and to stay online.
And i am new in this game...maybe 2 months, and with a little investment, little i said,i manage to climb up very fast,i recived help from alot of old and new players in the game without knowing them before this game and i think anyone could catch them at one time with a little work.
Besides that some skills and knowlege in the game requires many months or maybe years to develop...i don t think that any of you whould like to loose all and to start from scratch because of some people envy.

The players who got to a high level did it through hard work over many months and years and/or through buying things with real money to keep the lights on. You would really wipe that all away?

Why not work hard yourself and put in the time and effort? Or you can make purchases toward keeping the game afloat.

This is "Harrison Bergeron"-tier thinking. Instead of wanting to rise to the top, you want to bring everyone down to the bottom.

while a server wipe would not be all that much of a disaster, some players, including myself have spent real cash on this game for mall items, items that are not available in game , ie the coat that gives +3 wares . as for a lvl playing field , the vets have the knowledge and will very very soon be a lot more powerfull than new players. and of course the ports will not be developed , the seas that are sailed will be less, so those pirates with the knowledge and skills will be more of a problem. I can make a charachter 30/30/30 in 1 week , maybe 2 weeks if there was a server wipe, while new players are still trying to get their head around the gameplay. i know what to do and where to go, how to avoid pirates and aggressive npc fleets, but i have invested money in the game, is it fair that i should lose everything with no compensation

i have spent a lot of money on this game after 7 years of game play all i do when i login is do a spice run cause that all i find to be fun i've unlocked all the ports i've done most of the discoveries i'm not going to grind battle for no reason  took 7 years of sailing to hit 52 in adventure while in a trade job, but the game itself is boring only times i ever invested money in astros is when i was a starter the game was more fun had many mysteries had alot more to explore more places to go that required a higher lvl, so ofcourse u had to grind and it was worth it but then u get to a point many years later and the game looses its luster, i know many of hte vets have reach that point, all we do now is amasse wealth buy ships were not really going to keep just to trade up to the next ship that gets released the longer the game goes the more outrageous the prices will skyrocket eventually it will hit a point where not even a beginner will be able to afford without spent real money to be able to afford the smallest of astro ships like MAV MFCV CTG and CLR MF, these ships are the smallest price even the CTG goes for over a bill a LMS 5/5 can cost a player over 500mil and thats just for now in the past u could get a 1/5 MAV for 80mil fresh out of ticket, and that was expensive we were all small the game adapted to the low amount of ducats the player base had. with a wipe all we are doing is balancing the game out sure players who have invested money in the game may leave but they won't quit playing they may reduce how much they spend but they will still spend, thats really why this game is so popular it requires someone to spend money to upgrade ships, someone will always need a ship upgraded, and thats the revenue will come from we may loose our current SB's but new ones will take their place.  all the  knowledge base will exist even if most of the vets leave that knowledge will still be here for starters and vets alike to use,  as for the market it can always recover may take many years 7 maybe more to get back up to this disaster but in reality most of  those 7 year accounts don't even have a year of game time spent ingame, so in reality they are loosing maybe 4000 hours at most 166.6days of game time not even a year heck not even 6 months, most of the vets play around for a few hours a day or micro manage throughout the day but never leave seville london or any of hte primary cities. so can u call that really playing,  i for 1 will be happy to loose all my progress my skills my lvls my ships just to start over and fix many of the problems that have befallen our community.

FrozenRuby, you almost make a server wipe sound like a good thing, but I just got a nicely built G3 8/8 AFCV for 8 Clintons (bills), and I would really hate to lose it.

and another point u've already spent those astro those netcash  u can't expect a refund on something u already used if u read the terms and conditions u accepted those terms of service u never read them probably so u can't really complain if they wipe the server because u already agreed they reserve the right to alter the game as they wish, u agreed to this

On steam, it says i have 12676 hours logged in on UWO.
In reality only about 4000 of those hours are playing hours, the rest are
    afk with a bazaar up.
    I am 82/85/85
6 Nations R20,  (working on 7th) 9 Refined skills. Top skills in almost everything else
    that you cannot refine
I like to spend my time doing things that few others can do.
The money I spent, I can recover.  The time, I cannot recover.
If there is a wipe. I will not be back.
My friends asked me to play Divinity, Original Sin 2 just released Sept 14th.
It sounds like a distinct possibility.

For all the naysayers, who think this will kill the game and we'll end right back up here, I have one question - how many were around within the first few months of UWO's North America release?

I was... it was 2010 if I'm not mistaken.

This was a freakin' EPIC game back then! I even remember using real world maps to chart my position in the game and figure out the fastest route to the ports.

Countries didn't have ports open yet, you couldn't just freely sail to a new land - you had to discover it and then open it up for your country first. Players of each nation had to work together to reap the cumulative rewards they would receive.

Player bizarre were full of life, with characters coming and going all the time and actual PEOPLE selling things they crafted. Running out of food, suffering from a fire and having rats infest your ship while on a spice trade route on your newly acquired "tiny" ship, was  real danger and could seriously hinder your progress.

Piracy and PvP actually did exist and took preparation and skill to avoid or win.

More than anything, the game economy actually existed. Quest rewards paid enough to buy an NPC item or two and upgrade a few cannons with some player crafted ones. Buying a new ship meant sailing the seas, trading goods, risking piracy, completing quests and then finally being able to save enough to buy your next ship once your skill level rose accordingly.

If people don't think there's a market for this kind of a game, I suggest you spend some time over at MMORPG.com and listen to some conversations about what people like, expect and want in their MMOs, because this game used to have it all.

Start a new server, even limit multi accounts, market the game as a new re-release, lose a few older players to replace them with the newer players. watch the ports come back to life. Watch the seas become populated with living players again. This game will come back to life if papaya does what OGPlanet told me twice, they would not do - restart the game world.

And, by the way, yes, I am the Steam player who wrote the 5+ page, negative review of this game, that's received over a thousand views, a few years back... so I know a lot of you have read it and I still stand by it.

@FrozenRuby - No, you wouldn't. You won't have friends/company members giving you a bunch of rare, EA goods to sell. You'll actually need to save up for a decent ship since you won't have billions of ducats flooding the economy at every turn.

And then you'll either have to grind Shipwright or wait for other players to be able to craft bigger, faster ships - which also means they need millions of ducats themselves in order to be able to afford the materials. Hell, it will take your nation just about that long to unlock the India ports, where you can start spice trading for a decent profit.

People forget what this game used to be like before it broke... and that's the biggest tragedy of it all.

  • FrozenRubyFrozenRuby Posts: 286Member Intermediate
@lerxst currently i am a R19 spice trader i have spend billions of ducats to get me there thousands of hours hundreds of run to ambon grinding that skill in 1 day of spice running with a a pair of TLG's i could bring back enough to power lvl 1 player to lvl 60 trade,  at the moment it would take less then 5 trips to ambon and back to seville to power lvl 1 player from lvl 1 to lvl 60 in a single shot and as for grinding shipwright my SB on my primary toon is R5 just enough to refit my ships for merchant or for battle, and on a side note i would spend money to get my hands on even 1 astro merchant battle or adventure ship for spice running, this game this server should be wiped i'm willing if a wipe happens to spend even more money on this game but at this moment this game isn't worth spending more real money on it, there is nothing in it for me i am contempt with my ships my skills if i need ducats 1 spice run nets me over 100mil, so yes at this moment the game has stagnated. and for the record i don't have comp mates giving me rare spices or trade goods to lvl i know the trade routes because i been here for the last 7 years been thru the NM to OGP transfer and i will be here for as long as i am alive.
