Servers, new players, and the future of UWO

I've been thinking a while about this transfer and what it might change for the future of UWO.

The two big questions here are regarding to the servers, whether they'll be kept or not, and how to bring in new players.

First off, please vote as to what you think should happen to the servers: https://strawpoll.com/phga11zy

I believe that keeping GAMA but adding a new server would both satisfy the old players but bring in the possibility of new ones having a chance of reaching endgame. Right now, anyone who starts playing UWO will never be able to catch up to the old veterans of GAMA. At the same time, we need to respect their progress and not take it away from them.

I hope Papayaplay will do their best to appeal both to old and new players, and do make an active effort to bring in new ones.

What are your thoughts?

I can show you an example of one veteran who lost their account and within two - three months of grinding and playing reached 85/85/85. Maybe he took it to the extreme in the views of some, but please do not say it is not possible to catch up to old veterans. He got all his old accounts back and now all are almost on par.

I've been playing for almost 2 years, and I'm only at (I think) 60/68/62, and I play at least 40 or 50 hours a week. No matter what happens, I can only match those that are maxed, never surpass them, but I can live with that, instead of wanting a wipe, because I have a lot of stuff I don't want to lose. I think a good idea would be for the level caps to be raised to much higher attainable levels.

i've been here since before air was a thing and i'm only 63/75/54, i know i will never get top and i don't really mind...

do you want to know why?

    because i've been having fun!

free players like us get a free ride but the front seat is always occupied by someone who spends more, and there is always someone willing to spend more than you.

All free to play live on whales and those whales always reach the top faster, the reasoning you give out to wipe is "because new players can't compete", but you have to realize that the same mentality of wanting to be to the top is what pushed those on the top right now, they have each spend more time and money that you can imagine, and whoever wants to compete with them will have to spend at least as much time and money.

let's say you do get a wipe which will scare away most of your high invest players but every single one who remains and is willing to spend is gonna claim the top again, perhaps faster given the less competition, and they all will be above any new player even if the new player spends just as much.

Free player speaking here as well. I pop in and out of UWO and have had fun and enjoyed my time without the purchase of ship speed boosters or anything.

I like the idea of keeping GAMA, where veteran players may return with the things they have spent lots of time/years gaining, but that a new server could be added in addition. This way there is the option of staying on GAMA or going to the new server where you start fresh. It is an idea we can grow upon.

Something to ponder is if anything would transfer between servers, such as character levels(probably not in-game currency/items). Or if someone already did all the schools in GAMA and wanted to try the new server, would they have to redo all the schools again. Another way of putting all this is if another server were added, should it be connected at all to GAMA or should it be a clean slate that is completely separate.

Another thing to consider is whether or not Papaya can handle more than one server and how stable they would be.
