ScurvyTrader's Weekly log
This Log originally started
just as a log of how close we (TeraNova, a company in Lisbon) were to getting a
company liner from Lisbon to Pohang.
--------------------------
Now it is something for all
you suffering from UWO withdrawal to read while you wait for the Papaya reboot.
--------------------------
I ended up contributing most of
the trade goods needed to activate the liner. After that it turned into a
Captains Log, long term planner and a motivator to achieve some of the endless
goals available in the game.
-------------------------
The long term planning became
a key success in my rapid rise in levels and forced me to actually read up on many
areas and plan effectively, things that I wanted to complete. I expect that this is one of the missing
components in most players rise above say 60/80/60.
One of my key goals and a thing
that I believe 99% of players will never accomplish is to get every job card.
Most players acquire certain skills and level them for their current goals. This
may effectively block themselves from getting other jobs, because it would
require deleting one or more of their 54 current skills which is psychologically
difficult to do.
------------------------
I started posting this log in
our company forums eight months ago and since I could not find any regular
player logs, I thought I would put up my own.
When I started posting this log, I was 63/80/64. I put up a bunch of
posts to start in the UWO forums and gained a very small following. I was about
half way thru before the end of OGP so now I will repost and put up 1-2 (of my
weekly) posts per DAY until I am caught up to the current date. Enjoy!

Current edit, Oct 1, 2017. I
was speaking to the company members when I started my log.
--------------
If you don't have EA permit, don't worry about this.
Concentrate on getting your, farm, your quarters and your 3rd aide, who will
make goods for production storage that you can take out in EA.
==================================================
Oct 17th 2016 Week 1: 5050 points
Post any/all questions about the liner and how to take advantage of it here.
(all questions were removed
from this log and a weeks played time is inserted before
the Nanban liner week)

Oct 24th Week 42, Nanban
Liner Week 2: 7025 points
I spent all day Saturday Oct 22nd in Ea.
From reading blogs, I found that you can do trade with your Nanban target city
and get nanban liner points(AKA Trade points). This only works in our target
city of Pohang.
After you open Pohang by bribing the official, you trade goods and earn two
types of points. Contribution points to open the next Korean port Hanyang, and
Trade points to open the liner.
You don't get the Trade points in any other city.
You will need 5000 Contribution points to open Hanyang. For each 1000
contribution points, you will earn approximately 50 Trade points for the liner.
My goal this week is 40k Contribution points to open Busan which will also get
us about 2000 Trade points.
Even though its lawless waters here and have been hit by PC pirates, i'm
staying until I run out of food!
History:
I originally played Uncharted
waters on the PC in 1992 and loved the game. I started this online version
in January 2016 with no help and nobody to show me anything. 90% of what I
learned came from the schools, listening to the questions that were asked and
answered on school chat and reading the online materials, especially from
ivyro. (After schoolchat, I thought worldchat would be helpful, but it is 90%
trolling and ramblings of a few players
who after 90 weeks are/were the same level when I started). The other 10% came
from discussion and trial and error, because they were new implementations in
the several updates that came online while I was playing.
I am a big fan of maritime
history especially during the age of exploration. I listened to the following (not
movie/series of course) as audio books while driving, Since you have time now, I
highly recommend the following:
"Over the Edge of the World" Laurence Bergeen (for all you low
level traders who have yet to circumnavigate the globe and want to be spice
traders)
"The story of the Barbary Corsairs" Lane-Poole, Kelly (you can
find this free on Youtube, for all
you pirates and wannabe pirates!)
"Champlain's Dream" Fischer (for all you working on your
colony)
"Master and
Commander" (Russle Crow's movie for all who love maritime combat/galapagos
explorers)
"Lewis and Clark" Lighton (audiobook free on youtube for all you who are working on the North American
Expansion)
"Master and
Commander" (Russle Crow's movie for all who love maritime combat/galapagos
explorers)
Horatio Hornblower series
staring Ioan Gruffudd
"The Description of the
World" (or the adventures of Marco Polo, many versions)
"The history of
Seafaring" Johnston, Nurminen
Oct 31, Week 43, Nanban Liner
Week 3: 8800 points.
I spent 5 of the last 7 days in EA. Pohang was in recession six times and only boomed once late yesterday. Not a scientific study, but from 150+ town observations... 7 towns every 2hours
or so 22 times,
i got the following results.
1.3% ship building request
2.5% boom
2.5% War
2.5% cold damage
3.2% drought
3.2% flood
3.8% festival
5.1% plague
12% recession
64% normal
Boom-Shipbuilding-War are good for donating muskets... normal status maintains
the last effect or slowly imroves it. The rest, especially recession are bad.
This week's accomplishments:
made 1000'th discovery.
R14 Collection from collecting ore in West Pohang
to trade to the Korean Nanban merchant.
Nov 7th, Week 44, Nanban
Liner Week 4: 10,600 points
We are on schedule to pass 18,000 points by
Dec 15th. Depending on how many company members we have, I will try and push us
over the required 500 per member on that day to get the Nanban Liner working.
Spent another 5 days in Korea.
This week's accomplishments:
Delivered approximately 170,000 goods to the different towns. Unlocked all EA
ports and good types.
This is equivalent of about 120 trips carrying 1400 goods per trip. Aside from
the 10k goods that I did bring, what actually happened was I collected about
100,000 goods, (R15 Collection, not refineable) and turned it into Iron metal,
glassware, and jasmine. (mostly iron metal).
Since I wasn't planning on coming back with any goods, I traded the iron and
glassware for goods that were in demand in other EA cities; Korean
Cactus,(medicine good in plague, drought and war) and Korean Raspberry (luxury
goods). I also bought copper ore and manilla in Manilla, to make Trade copper
metal and western books.
If you are planning to unlock more than the initial 4 cities (with alcohol),
you must have at least R4-5 Collection, R5 Casting, the Metal smelting book, and an aid that you can set up to store your goods while you do collections. The place to set up is West Pohang to collect iron ore. The most difficult thing was to mentally tell myself that I was setting up
Pohang as my base for a couple of weeks, instead of Lisbon or Seville.
I forgot to mention.. Iron
does not work well in Japan and S.China.. you need to trade the iron in Korea and Taiwan to get other
goods like Korean Cactus that they love in Japan and S.China.
Oops.. also the College
Collection skill boost "Field Activities 2" is mandatory if you are going to collect ores in
W.Pohang Korea. Of course you want to collect 4-5 ore at at time, not 1-2...
November 14th, Week 45,
Nanban Liner week 5. 13,700 points.
took about 12h of sailing back and forth porto--lisbon--porto--lisbon delivered about 8000 muskets in 80 deliveries,
including time to go make more muskets. Thanks Kitsunetsuki for helping me make
some of those muskets. Still on track to make 19,500 for Dec 15th.
-----------------------------------------------------
There is a liner from lisbon to Hanzhou this week. Morro explained that this happens when there is an EA cultural trend in Lisbon,
and the port official, I think, tells you how long it will last (to this Thursday) The liner takes 42 minutes so you have 18 minutes to get off, If you miss it
like I did, you will be on your way back from Hanzhou to Lisbon. The liner
departs on the even hours 2,4,6,8...pm PST and comes back on the odd hours
3,5,7,9,11 etc.
------------------------------------------------------------
This weeks accomplishment: Title Fortune Maker, allows you to trade up to +30% at market. req: level 80 trade, 40k culture investment in each of the 4 EA markets, 360k fame, 800m cash in bank account (not cheques)
========================================================
SEA is safe waters this week!
-------------------------------------------------------------
so it is super easy to take
the liner empty to Hanzhou.. sail to ambon and run and fill up with spices and
come back. If you have an EA port open and your 3rd aid producing goods, you can take them
out at the bank and trade in EA before you sail south and fill up on spices.
Trading Wine in Japan is great 88% of the time (12% of the time ..recession.)
Nov 21, Week 46, Nanban Liner
Week 6. 15,800 points.
-------------------------------------------------------
Unlikely we will get enough points by Dec 15th.
Right before contribution day we have several new accounts added. With a member
total of 50, we will need 25,000 EA trade points. We will make it by Jan 15th for sure.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This weeks accomplishments..
Completed charting all sea zones.
Obtained the Archaeologist Job Card.
Nov 28th, Week 47, Nanban
Liner Week 7. 18,800 Points
----------------------------------------------------------
Lucked out and had Pohang in good status all day Saturday. It went from boom, stagnant, drought, stagnant, festival, stagnant, plague, stagnant. then
eventually recession. (only the boom and recession changes the status of
delivering firearms... so if that series started with recession, then it would
have been 8 x (1 hour statuses) of all bad, with no change, instead of 8 hours
good, with no change.
----------------------------------------------------------------
This weeks accomplishments..
Passed 1100 discoveries.
Placed my first item in the Paris museum.
Made Level 64 Adventure.
The goal is to keep going and make level 65 adventure, then switch to Maritime,
while working to build a Windjammer. (requires 65/75/30) and mod it for top speed, wave resistance and turn speed.
Dec 5th, Week 48, Nanban
Liner Week 8. 21,500 Points
That is good enough for a liner for a company with 43 members. We will likely
get up to 23,000 points by next week, but that will only be good for 46
members.
Membership currently stands at 47 with 3 more coreys being added right before
contra day.
----------------------------------------------------------
Finally broke down an paid real money for some astros. I purchased
3 extra skill slots for 599 astros,
5 extra binder slots for 199 astros
5 extra captain's bag slots for 299 astros.
Will be pushing more adventure questing until i hit level 65. The extra space
in inventory will be to carry lots of archive maps so I can do adventure quest
and find map discoveries at the same time.

Passed 1200 discoveries.
