@Laviol "We should take away fatigue and attrition also while we are at it. Hate losing sailors while i sail.. or collect or fish afk.. right.. no because its not realistic.. "
sorry to break it to you but this is actually realistic, navigation in that era was borderline suicide, only 18 men out of the original 237 men were on board when magellan completed his around the world trip, and that's wasn't a battle trip.

    @
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx "If pirates can kill tough and even tougher Non-Player ships, and reap greater and greater rewards, wouldn't that satisfy their incentive to play the game?  As a pirate levels up, his Non-Player opponents would level up as well. and so would the rewards for plundering.
Where is the benefit or fun for a pirate beating a PvP Noob and taking away their incentive to keep playing?. We all lose, and so does Papaya."

actually better NPC trade fleets and powerful bounty / navy fleets would do a lot of good for the game, there are few quests where battle gets really interesting including the one for golden hind and the ones for high level jobs but that's it.

"If pirates and bounty hunters want to "duke it out" once a month for prizes and money, set up a ESF for them to participate."

They do, all the time actually and BC was getting a lot more of attention too, even i have fought both pirates and bounty hunters on ESF and it was a blast.

"Lastly, the grinding needs to be reduced, as today's new player has less time and needs more instant satisfaction to keep playing."

this is where we disagree gama already has reduced grind compared to other servers. and with current implementations you can farm most skill except rowing in a matter of days (hours if you're committed enough), people rarely take lightly when others get instantly what you spend years to get.

@Katanauwo  "Premium Event - Piracy spree"
i find this weirdly acceptable, at worse you could log out for a few hours if you dont want in, it would be like most games halloween event where enemies are insanely hard, but you still have to keep immunity for low level players

I agree it needs to go back to old days to revive piracy since UWO can not play without piracy. At least, Papaya will need to revise rules for piracy ie one time, astro, and special items will be excluding from plunder list.

UWO needs to have versatility of purposes to play but not one dimensional or what not like I mean Trader, Adventurer, Piracy, Bounty Hunter, Dungeoneer, etc ,so Papaya will need to undo many things that OGP made.

first off there are tribute goods that work on player pirates i've used them in the past they work.

please define a trader player no a battle player not a adventurer but a trader what makes a player a trader is it them in a clipper them in a schooner or a TLG, no pirates in the past used clippers (trading and adventures types) to pirate with, so no true white player at this stage in the game is a true trader, most player attacked by a pirate are usually in a trading type of ship because its faster to sail in less likely to be pirated in. so just because a player is in a trading ship and/or trading job doesn't make it a trader, i can sail in a MSLC in spice trader job and still be considered a pirate/BH just cause my job and ship are merchant doesn't mean that ship or the aide ship isn't armed to the teeth. and ready to repell a pirate/Bounty hunter.

yes those pics will definitly say there aren't alot of pirates and alot more whites, but can u really tell who isn't a former pirate just from looking at the color of their ingame character no u can't. i've been red orange and white countless times, currently i'm red, and the fact remain just cause ur white doesn't mean ur not a pirate, for an old saying on uwo "Its not the reds or the oranges u have fear when sailing in hostiles waters, Its the whites for they can appear and disappear at random and have the potential to turn red or orange at your expense"
so yea more whites but how many are really pirates that have gone white.

so the astro ships we payed real money for wasn't counted toward all that premium stuff or how about all that astro gear sitting on one of my toons specifically purchased thru chest and bottles over the years. i'm a pirate and u call us not contributing to the game in terms of monetary investment,
    Premium Event - Piracy spree
one major problem if its going to be a killing spree by pirates in safe waters ur looking at probably 4-5 full fleets of pirates roaming and kill at random.
in turn all people will just throw on eithe a blue flag or sit inside seville or another port for those 3 hours and waste the time of pirates. too many flaws with this idea.

Well, it seems like deck battle and piracy will make a comeback.. See you all in hostile waters :)

Eh, if I didn't have to worry about pirates it would be a bit boring at times, but geez, some of you guys are lazy a-holes. Still - do any of the hosting companies, whether netmarble, OGP or papaya actually have a say in this? I would imagine a setting like this is strictly koei-tecmo.
  • FarnesseFarnesse Posts: 0Member Beginner
xxxxxxx - I don't think you understand motivations. It's not about success, it actually is about destroying someone else's incentive to keep playing. That is what we call in the biz - teh lulz.

I pirate because its fun and I really enjoy open world PvP. For me, I'd rather fight/run from bounty hunters all day, but those days are gone. The only players who are left are carebears who are scared to put their reputation on the line and only do mocks/BC.

I think bringing back item plunder would greatly increase the amount of open world PvP. However, I do not think that is the only solution. Bounty hunters could definitely use a buff (because their rewards are lackluster for the amount of effort it takes to catch a pirate). Pirates could get buffed with better spoils rewards. There are more than just one option. The fact that OGP and Koei ignored all of the options is what made me lose faith in the game.

I do not have my hopes up that papayaplay will be any different. But I will continue to argue for more open world PvP until UWO gets shut down for good.

Unlimited piracy is the worst.  All it amounts to is the guy with level 200 killing the guy with 50-100 level at will.  So the lower level guy never gets a chance to do anything but lose.  So you are left with a server of super-high level players and their Alt's and nothing else.  Maybe the Pirates should hunt their ALTs and everyone would be happy LOL.

Being a pirate requires a certain mind-set:  That it is justifiable and reasonable to take things away from other people.  We don't need to argue whether it is justifiable or not but only to realize that such a point of view prevents the player from engaging in mutual game-building and co-operation.  In other words, being a pirate indicates an anti-social personality.  There are MANY other games where anti-social behavior is the norm that these individuals may go play.  To give pirates all the privileges that they seem to be begging for would be to turn UWO into just another hack and slash war game.  Let those who choose to do so opt out of this element of the game, or be given the tools to limit the impact, which was the case with the elimination of item plunder and the reduction of cargo loss with higher level Storage ranks.
Barring that natural expression of villainy which we all have, the man looked honest enough.

    @OgieOglethorpe

If everyone could opt out, we would have nobody to chase.

It's true that I am pretty antisocial, but I still try to make friends and run a company anyway. It can be difficult to relate to the average person if you have Asperger's Syndrome..

    @ZimXero

I'm fortunate enough to have all the time in the world to play if I want to, which still probably puts me leagues ahead of even the cash players.

so,killadumb, are you saying that you are autistic?

  • InfamousKillaInfamousKilla Posts: 165Member Beginner
Technically, yes. Asperger's is a mild form of autism, but it's not considered a disorder anymore. If anything, we are more capable than most intellectually. We just have some issues relating to normal people.

Without piracy it is difficult to imagine medieval waters. There are many supporters and opponents of the return of robbery of things and deck battles. I personally for the return of piracy, but against deck battles. But in any case, the game is not aimed at one person, but the community, so you need a compromise. I had this idea: to return the robbery of things except for rare things, 1. which are quests only once for each player, 2. things for real money, 3. things in safes or special storage on ships. Entry into deck fights is allowed immediately, if both players agree to this. And if one does not want this, then make the entry into the battle random,as admissible when escaping from the melle battle with a probability of not more than 5%.

If all you have is issues relating to 'normal' people, that's not the developmental disability formerly known as Asperger's Syndrome, which is in fact considered a disorder, as it was eliminated as a stand-alone diagnosis and rolled into what is now called The Autism Spectrum. Throw in that you consider yourself more capable than most intellectually and it appears you've misdiagnosed yourself. I suggest you have a look at Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

It is part of the autism spectrum, I didn't deny that. However, it is a mild form as I said. I have all of these symptoms except poor motor skills..

"Asperger's Syndrome would be seen as the 'upper end' of the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). That means that people with this ASD would normally have unaffected intelligence and language developed, but would have milder symptoms affecting social interaction, behavior, and language comprehension."

    I have a friend with asperger’s.

He can get over excited at times and miss what I would consider social cue’s which means he won’t always read a situation well or recognise someone’s body language as to whether he is irritating them or upsetting them.
If he tell’s a funny joke he will completely latch onto it and not give up with it until you wish you’d never heard it.

He is medically diagnosed with this form of autism.

However he is a caring and kind person.

So infamouskilla i don’t think your apsergers is the problem, your just a bit of a nasty guy that’s likes to be confrontational and pretty much unpleasant on here.

It surprises me a little as I watched a YouTube vid with havok yourself and some others doing piracy.
You we’re all speaking on discord and you seemed calm and pleasant.

I don’t know why you are acting the way you are on here....but it’s nothing to do with your Asperger’s....Asperger’s sufferers don’t realise when they offend someone, you do and you enjoy it.

I usually try to be calm and respectful, but some of these players just get me riled up. Afterall it's a free game, cut your losses and keep going. Play or don't. However, all this complaining, negativity, and hostility towards PapayaPlay is not only unfounded, (as it was OGP's fault you lost your data anyway) but it's actually detrimental to the community. We don't need these players, in fact I think we will be better without them.

    "I have all the symptoms"
So, I was spot on with the self-diagnosis thing. Before the diagnosis was eliminated in name and rolled up into the Autism Spectrum, it was considered by some to be a fashionable dodge to deny personal responsibility for being a jerk. Too, it was used by unscrupulous criminal defense lawyers to try to get their sociopath clients sympathy. Both unapologetic jerks and unscrupulous lawyers clearly demonstrating they give zero phucks for people who actually have been professionally diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum disorder.

You would probably need an ophthalmologist to confirm your blindness, but I wouldn't take his word.. You should definitely get a second opinion.

    You People...

This game used to be a sim not a delivery game with no risk.
Set in the golden age of exploration, when there where adventurers, traders and scurvy pirates. It is the opportunity to live in that world, 1500 AD and experience other players acting out those roles. I always respect you Cali because you were cool and glad you got CA, but you weren't around when the game launched. We are going to be the only server with item plunder that I am aware of, you are going to see an influx of Asian players that will return and open their wallets why? Because they love to pirate, you see that is the reason we used to have a couple thousand people on at once, and when that was removed, they all left. If they do some 3 hour pirating on version, I'm out. All the traders and adventurers will just port for those 3 hours

Piracy makes being in a company that much more important, and sailing without an escort that much more risky. It adds so much reality to the game, forms stronger bonds between players, spies in companies performing espionage and reporting where that companies players are located. It literally makes the game like Eve on water, and rather than the entire server being a big fluffy boring friend fest, it creates competition and rivalries, heroes and villains. It really is fun

To be fair, we tried the other way, it didn't work. This is a smart decision even though it may not have been handled in the best manner and if we lost everything and they don't return pvp to the way it originally was, I'm out and this was just a huge waste of everyone's time and money spent on the last server if they try to do it that way again, because we saw what that produced, a game so boring people sat in world chat and trolled one another

The return of piracy is one of the only things that excites me about the change of ownership, and I don't even plan to plunder.  Risk enhances reward.

The wipe still sucks ass, though.

Well I didn't read all posts in this thread but as a long time player the only ones that got all their items plundered were other pirates if a pirate attacks you simply take a crit shot and sink your items ok trade goods may wash away depending on your storage rank but they can only plunder if meleed also once they sink you they can't attack while the green flag is on your ship so time to sail away. Pirates don't get the green flag and could be repeatly attacked if you revived your ship. So in almost all cases of massive plunder loss the victims didn't sail away but stayed to confront the pirate to give him more chances , and as for noob pirates being plundered repeatly they learn fast also now with bounty hunters they can be attacked repeatly as well but I think they get a green flag chance too so if you stay for more then don't complain if they take more.
