I want to know why all you guys been playing uwo all these years. Me I just love how the game teaches geography but everyone chime in with their thoughts please.
The slow Pace, the relaxing sailing, the depth of the game is what really makes it special though. you could play for years and still not be even halfway through the games content
There is no pressure, no need to get things finished, you don't have to do all activities the game has to offer, just do the things you like. I have the feeling I cannot mess up my toon, skills are easy to manage what makes your toon modifiable. The social aspect of the game is so adorable, the teamwork, the size of the world, there's just endless reasons which I cannot name why the game is so addictive.
Even with it's elder graphics it is still lovely to do, a graphical update would indeed boost the fun massively but it is not an obligation since even without it is great.
I hope even if the game goes offline one day, at least one will have a private server...
I love UWO for many reason but the one i am most fond of has to be the rewarding feeling you get when you convince someone else the value of investing. Getting people involved and teach them about the whole process and advantages of doing so.
Its not that easy to have enough people interested in helping out by essentialy throwing away good hard earned Ducats without any immediate rewards(many hidden benefits to teach aswell).
The depth of this game in almost every area is just so great, but it all takes time to master.
Lets bring it all back to the way it was when the server first opened, no more bonds at the very least!
Why i play UWO, cause even after 7 yrs of playing i can usually find something to grind or work towards. Only since the big nerf, have i really gotten bored. This is how it goes, I get a new ship so i nanban for couple weeks to get monies up for modding said ship. After ship is done, i hear about a new item u can get from a quest or TH or MA that i want, so i work towards grinding to get that item cause always learn about new stuff in game cause of the MASS AMOUNTS of stuff in this game. So i did what i needed to do, got my new ship ready to go, got my new items all ready to go. I've ran dungeons got MTT's MST's and went and collected white ore got me some LCCTS made. Did what i had to do and made me some +16/-18 plates lined up, went and made me a complete new set of m.carro 18's so i'm all ready to go. Took about 1 month total to get it all set up and ready to go. Now i'm bored. cause pvp outside of staged battles IE (mock, bc, esf) doesn't exist anymore. So i've done my trading for the month, done my adv for the month, now ready to do my maritime which is 1/3 of the game....and nothing.... That is why i DON'T play uwo as much anymore, and only come around for cool event with nice prices or when new ship comes out i want. WHICH SUCKS. If piracy wasn't nerfed, after than month of prep. i'd go out and do couple weeks of piracy/pvp. When supplies dry up, i go back to trade/adv to restock and then repeat. So those that have said play a pvp game instead of UWO. This was and always has had PVP until the plunder nerf which completely killed open-water pvp.
I had a lot of fun maxing the speed of my new pirate ship by getting cool gear and refining skills such as rowing and steering. The only thing I can even do to get faster is chart more seas. I've recently started adventuring because the seas were dead, which meant there were very few people to pirate.
I also really enjoy the races, but the mechanics are flawed because one can gain advantage by using the, "slingshot" technique when towing their alt. Unfortunately, the prizes are usually very bad. Once in awhile the Grand Prix's will give cool rewards.
Mostly, I just love to pirate. I used to be able to attack fleets of 5 by myself fairly quickly in deck battle. I even used to be able to plunder cool things like 100 defense gloves, at least before the piracy and deck battle nerfs.
I stay invested because the original super-nintendo Uncharted Waters - New Horizons was one of my very favorite games. UWO offers much of a continuation without end.
while have been a long time fan of sailing games the real thing that gets me to come back are the histories... and i don't meant the event history from the countries, which admittedly has its moments, but the quests chain stories the way both the original writers and translator have to mix real history with a fantasy tale of sorts and get you involved in it, if you have done the eternal cornflower line from Egypt for Tutankhamen mask and bothered to read all the messages you should know what i meant.
In fact the best update ever for me was when they added the quest history review from the discover screen.
Desire spawns madness, madness collapses into disaster. mankind never learns...
No game can replace the amount of quests and maps and discoveries this game has. There's no dull quests either - as Edgedemon stated, the chains and even single quests have their own story which makes them interesting to follow along.
Getting +1 on a great success of some improvement on a ship can be very satisfying.
Sailing the seas, doing various activities together with company members, rl and in-game friends, even randoms. There's always something to do, the question is do you want to do them now.
There is no set rule to follow how to build my character or ships. You can pretty much do whatever you want. As a result all the characters and ships are different in a way or another, it's fun seeing what other people decided to do with their characters and ships.
I guess the biggest thing I like about the game is achieving success whether in school, trade, adventure, discovery, or battle. We have a couple of young renters that live downstairs in our house that like to play GTA I literally hear them screaming at each other to watch out for something or other at least once a week. I just wonder what it would take to attract them to play UWO.
Because is not a competitive game u can do a lot of stuff at your own pace.....yes there are pirates and other that can attack you.....also u can do a lot of stuff.....in adv merch or maritime
I like playing with my son. teaching him history and geography. i like most of the community. except for the few that are drama kings or queens- i like the friendships that i have gained in all these years.

What I do love is the freeness of the game, it is calm and relaxing to play. We can all go at our own pace.
And we don’t all need to be the best, or at similar levels to enjoy it.
