UWO2 alike games

Let me make sure before u read on that the reason why I am asking this question is just out of curiosity, not because I might consider quitting UWO2! Why not, UWO simply is unique in his kind, I am sure alternative games simply do not exist. (well... not anymore at least... read on...)

So there was one similar to UWO in concept and gameplay. It faced a cruel end a few years ago after a sudden closure, so far it is not clear if it will come back one day and for as far as is known, none was given private server permission.
That game was called "Discovery online".  Might be intresting to get in contact with the former playersbase and tell them about UWO, it would expand our playerbase!

Beside there is that other game called "Voyage century" Which has been an alternative for many of the players from "Discovery online" after it got offline. Many players are still active there but it is somehow a different game. They would feel better in UWO.
"Voyage century" itself is more a mixture of a casual MMORPG where you have to kill mobs in order to lvl mixed with the concept of trade, craft,... as we do in UWO but more limited.

Do u guys know of any other UWO-alike game?

Yours,
 Flo!

Well, I hope you reed my entire post, because I clearly set I am not giving up on UWO, not at all!

I was more thinking about discovering players or even entire player bases looking for a game like UWO and tell them about papaya's UWO once it is relaunched. And where better to find them but in a game that has stopped...

Aye you're right. I was just kidding when I wrote "don't tempt us", but that Century Online seems interesting, really. So, thanks for showing me the alternative if Papaya resets our game to 0 :D

Dang, I plan to post after I tried few games

    Voyage Century Online (VCO)

Just like UWO ,but it's heavy rely on quests. Oh I don't like graphic because it made me blind after I tried to read. It needs tp upgrade graphic and more sharp like UWO.

    Archeage

It does have ships ,but it's not like UWO, though.

    Pirates of the Burning Sea

It's focus on combat and has lack of exploration beside Caribbean. I despise POTB's unfriendly controls.

I stumbled upon Windward and Seafight while comparsion of POTBS, UWO, and VCO. I will check Windward and Seafight.

I also I know Anno's have bunch of them ,but it's usually singleplayer, though.

Well...FlorianGeyer...”Discovery Online” is the reason i play UWO.And if you played that game you know very well that was very similar with UWO in many, many ways.
For me that game was the best game i have ever played online. And i tryied Voyage Century too but no game untill now could beat Discovery.
UWO is the best one after Discovery Online and i hope with all my heart that Papaya will manage to bring this game up again and they will do something to restore his formal glory.

    Idsadar,

unfortunately I never played "DO". I've seen vids and screens of the game and I could see indeed it has many similarities compared to UWO but I suppose it was not well known and not easy to find on the web since it was hard to me to discover... It was indeed one of your posts elsewhere on the forum that made me find out about it.
Maybe u are still in contact with some of the former player and u can convince them to come over to UWO now???
I did a check if someone was owning a private server of "DO" somewhere but it seems like none exists, so the game is really completely lost atm. Maby u can suggest papaya (or other host) to go and negotiate with it's former host or even creator to obtain rights for a republish?
It's just, I don't think Papaya will bring out two almost lookalike games at the same time since it would probably squeeze their player amount on one or both games.
I think what we need most now is an -all or nothing- on UWO to guarantee it's success!!

Florian..i tryied for years to find any kind of infos about that game, but nothing. One day closed down and never heard of him again. And i feel sorry for that because that was a great game. Even if that was an old game, the graphics was stunning inside the towns and on the sea, really amazing. All i remember is that the company name was ”Jango Game”. And you can t find too much on internet about the game, because i have searched too.And i lost all the connection with the players in that game, but i m shure that if they whould find out about UWO they whould be here allready. But i found UWO by mistake, even if i searched for years a game like Discovery Online.I think this game hasn t been promoted like it should.

I'm trying Star Wars Old Republic as a smuggler, so I can cruise around in my ship and try to sell things. Either that or drive around in my car trying to sell my kids toys and my wife's stuff.
May the winds blow you well

rahelyoel, which Three Kingdoms game are you playing? I've been looking for a good one for a while, found nothing that could keep my interest long.

EVE Online is similar in some ways you could trade in NPC wares or player made stuff. but the Duche Baggery from some of the players can be daunting.

    Hey guys,

So a bit more information in order to elucidate the situation around here. I was a former Discovery Online player (Haxy) and member of the then WindGliders. It is to this day the most fun sailing game I have ever played (#2 being the classic NES game New Horizons). I remember when the game shut down Clayton? had reached level 60 which was insane. I had one of the unique nest drops that only one other person in the game possessed. There was also this Wikia page that me and a number of former players used to communicate through (Im sure thats gone by now). It was actually quite sad and joyful to go back to that Wikia page and see how others were doing after 6 months or 1 year, Id still see other people posting there.
Either way, yes, Jango Game shut the game down most likely due to not being popular enough and not making enough money. It was up one day and down the other. They did not give us notice that it would be shutting down at all.
Also, back in the day I did manage to download the game file from this obscure website that kept it uploaded but I deleted it after. What I did keep were all soundtracks. I still have them and was going to post them online 8 years ago but back then YT did not allow .oog formats and I never felt like converting the files. But yes I used to listen to the nice calming sea music... brings back good memories.
To me its just crazy how after 10 years that we have yet to get another company buy the former DO and make it their own.
Also, going into more obscure territories. Discovery Online was France based, we know that. But they actually had a big part in the Chinese region as well. Again, not many knew this but they used to have this Chinese website w23... something something and they would post more advanced information than the American version. This is the crazy stuff, this game was so new that not even everything was known. Either way, if anyone ends up really wanting the soundtracks I can upload them to youtube or maybe even soundtrack or somewhere. I doubt they'd even get flagged since the company is gone.
Also I am the owner of the youtube channel HaxElite (where I posted an old video of footage from the game). RIP DO.

Hmm, I'm a former DO player and had some good info. Tried posting a really long essay here but it never went through... If more people get interested I can try to post it again.
