You could contact Vertigo directly: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/306350/UNCHARTED_WATERS_ONLINE_SETTING_SAIL_FOR_PAPAYA_PLAY.php

And maybe KOEI-Tecmo too, since UWO is their game, and they have the final say in everything. Facebook/forum postings only go so far. If you do decide to contact the companies directly, remember to be polite but firm in voicing your opinions; perhaps Vertigo as a company who claims they "put users first, consistently reaching out to our gaming communities and keeping communication open" might listen, as might KOEI. There's no point running a MMO if it can't generate income, and the kind of losses UWO is looking at here will not be conducive to income generation in the short or long term.

I agree. The lack of any official response we've received in the forum so far, or even discussions on the subject prior to this announcement, leads me to think it would be better to stop waiting around, and be politely assertive in contacting to the companies in charge personally, though.

Nope, it's all on Papaya ,so Koei has no control over their decision.

Oh btw, Koei Temco is publisher not developer ,so they don't have final say.

Both links give perfect describe what does publisher do.

Reset or wipe server is all on Papaya's decision ,so it might be big risky business for them ,so they better hope that many new players to join while the players better spend some cash on cash shop to keep UWO alive.

It's actually not all that big of a risk for Papaya. They do a simple wipe, which is minimal effort, then start the game up. If no one plays they close it down. pretty simple metrics for them.

Wes, you assume that Papaya paid nothing for the game to OGP and do not have to pay a licencing fee to Koei.
If I didn't have to pay anyone, I would take over the "legacy" accounts and buy and set up my own server and keep old Gamma running.  What is that going to cost me 10 grand in hardware and a few hundred dollars in server fees?
Even If they had to paid a minimal fee to Koei of say $5,000 per month, then they do have at least some skin in the game and would want to get to positive cash flow as soon as possible.  If they didn't have to pay two licence fees, then It would make more financial sense to run two servers with a legacy server and a "fresh start" server where they can "fix" pirates/plunder and forced deck battle.

Obviously, they pre-planned this.  They did not want to become personal with affected players.  I bet they had a big room meeting with second thoughts and tried to change... then went with the original plan to save face with their investors.

A few hundred grand is not a big risk for most companies, their "skin in the game" is minimal right now. The cost of servers is not the licensing fees, it's the cost of the servers themselves, running them and hiring network administrators to keep them running, so a second server could likely amount to a much larger chunk of change than any licensing fees, which may be based on a commission for however many players they get.

Yes, they don't care what you want at all. If u want to start over, you are welcome to do so. If not, then find a new game. May I suggest chess, poker, or Magic: The Gathering??

Of course the community is being ignored CPC. firstly there was very little if any information from PAPayaplay, even when they first made this forum . then the announcement about a wipe and the resulting venting of anger. Still they have not made an announcement in the forum , instead they added to the FAQ in inserted the part about it being the fault of OGP. i dont believe it for a moment . they saw the shit storm they had created and blamed OGP in the hope that players will still play and spend money on the game
I decided last night that PAPaplay can stick the game up their arse and i hope their next shite is a hedgehog.
Time will tell if they are out to make a fast buck or realy listen to players like they say . So far they have not replied to 1 post, or made an announcement in the forum

Actually they did reply to a few of the first posts. Not good replies really, but they were replies.

other game suggestions: Has anyone tried the Bob Ross Art of Chill game? It might have a few positive effects for some people. Star Wars The Old Republic is good too while waiting for the relaunch.

maybe because all the people venting emotionally on the forums its kinda pointless to talk to emotionally unstable people cause all their really going to do is have clouded vision and not really care about what the admins have to say

right complaints are being made and are going unanswered maybe we should see how the relaunch goes and then decide if we aren't satisfied since papaya hasn't officially stated anything in the forums

I don't believe we are being ignored.  I believe it is more of a "We can DO, or we can TEACH" situation.  They are setting up a new server, installing and configuring a game, building a new loader, importing and testing patches, and load testing their infrastructure.

These things do not happen instantly and take intensive monitoring and man hours.  They have had this for ONLY 4 business days.  In a world of instant gratification, 4 days seems like a lot of time, but the work involved can be staggering.

  • pieratthepieratthe Posts: 419Member Intermediate
Yes they did wendy, they replied to several at the start, but then soon realized they have a whole community w/o a game right now, and all we have are the forums, so i seriously doubt they can respond to all posts, so they prolly just decided to stop responding and only make announcements as needed. Do not think they are ignoring us, Also the wipe IS NOT PAPAYA"S fault, apparently they had no control over what OGP did. So stop attacking papaya for something they did not do. They are at least offering up compensation of some kind to us coming from OGP.  Which they dont have to do. So stop before they resend that and we start with NOTHING.

To head off the replies to my post asking "How would you know?" I will answer ahead of time:

I know because in my "younger years" I owned a hosting company and my servers were based out of the SAVVIS 8 datacenter.  During this time, I took over hosting a startup MMO that was barely in alpha testing, and being run out of a home server owned by the lead developer.

I moved it to my servers, and had to set the system up.  Even with their team of developers and my team of admins, it took over a week of 18 hour days to work out the bugs and get this PRE ALPHA release back online.  This was also 10 years ago, and a MUCH LESS complex game.

Now, I believe that Papaya probably has many more knowledgeable and better trained people than I did way back then, but with such a complex game and system.  Lets all give them a chance to shine before throwing feces at them.  What do you think?

support@playuwo.com That was the most efficient contact option I found i contacted Vertigo games they told me contact them if enough of us voice our concerned lets hope to god a wipe can be thwarted. I encourage everyone to promise donations to the company to save and reinstitute the gama server at some point. Even if the new one opens up on October 18th Maybe just maybe they'll bring back our beloved gama. I can understand if there having technical issues. Maybe it just takes time to reinstate it I don't know I wish I did didn't Papaya buy the server from OG Planet if not we need to find the developers for OG Planet get our games put on a hard disk and tranfer them to out instalations somehow. I don't know. I hope and pray there is a last ditch effort. I am not spamming wipw wipw wipe wipe I think some people in the Forum lik Frozen Ruby, Imfamous killah, noobness are way to hateful and cold about what we are loosing I swear to god if there server is saved I'll donate tommorrow count on it.
