Speculation on regular reser in the future

PP has opened the pandora's box.

In the future everyone must ask themselves whe would be a next reset or shutdown take place while deciding shall they vote with wallet or feet.

I am less concerned about starting over because we have the power level knowledge and know how to exploits bugs and features.

But the memory of the wipe / reset is going to haunt us forever when we feel like spending the money. All those investment would suddenly disappear again with a 7-day short notice.

PP claimed due to the nature of technical challenge, they could not bother transferring the data. So this publisher is one of those who favour their own convenience before the customers' interest. Do not expect such a publisher to make UWO florishing. There will be negative 3rd party review everywhere and new players will not come.

UWO has game engine of year 2000 era. It will not be able to compete other cool games without the support of veteran gamers.

GG for UWO.

Yes, PP has chosen to make UWO a low cash flow game.  As such I expect no labor to be part of this on their end.

I am fearing the worse. They may start great just like OGP did at the very beginning. All fresh and new and friendly...

Then they release a new OP content (e.g. forge tool) claiming they are experimenting, which attracts sales. Following a period when the game goes on auto-pilot before it is being sold again. Except the next time the buyer looks at the group of ever-more cynical players and the only option is another wipe.

The real reason behind all those drama is a lack of sustainable revenue stream, such as subscription.

Free-2-Play micro-transaction business model hard to work:
People genuinely want free stuff given the choice, and thus the only way to disguise the product in 'free' coat while making profit is to dupe or exploit players' human weakness, and hence leading to player defiance. And then only a stronger dose of exploitation could overcome the defiance, i.e. Pay-2-Win.

That was why Netmarble released forged tools eventually. That was also why OGP gradually raised the cannon cap right before their doom.

Not saying F2P could not work, but it requires super discipline, usually only owned by big coops like Blizzard. I doubt PP could discipline itself from grabbing quick money which flows in front of their eyes every day.

With this knowledge in mind, I do not see why a rational adult with reasonable IQ would still buy into such a meaningless scheme.

    Try Subscription:
One big problem with subscription is the difficulty to attract new players.

But this problem does not exist. UWO banks on mainly returning customers, i.e. those who played Uncharted Water 1,2,3,4, or played UWO on other servers. The fan base was already defined.

If the game turns into subscription, in which F2P grinding nerf or content nerf do not exist, I will be willing to purchase subscription for me and for some of my friends, just so that we could have a good place to enjoy and socialise.

I like F2P, but, I hate how in the vast majority of the games they really become P2W...

So yeah, I'd do a subscription, if it were reasonable (say $10 a month).

It doesnt need to be suscription.
Like other popular games I would be prepared to pay 10 Euros a month for Premium account status giving me 50 percent boosts on everything.
Then occasionaly adding a bit more for SSIPs flags etc

The monthly packs are a good way to go.  I never bought one, because there were better things to buy.  That was a problem with the overall astro store offerings, not the packs themselves.
