UWO and the Chicken Story

Got a little tale for you all.

"On one occasion, so it was narrated, Stalin called for a live chicken and proceeded to use it to make an unforgettable point before some of his henchmen.

Forcefully clutching the chicken in one hand, with the other he began to systematically pluck out its feathers. As the chicken struggled in vain to escape, he continued with the painful denuding until the bird was completely stripped.

“Now you watch,” Stalin said as he placed the chicken on the floor and walked away with some bread crumbs in his hand. Incredibly, the fear-crazed chicken hobbled toward him and clung to the legs of his trousers.

Stalin threw a handful of grain to the bird, and it began to follow him around the room, he turned to his dumbfounded colleagues and said quietly, “This is the way to rule the people. Did you see how that chicken followed me for food, even though I had caused it such torture? People are like that chicken. If you inflict inordinate pain on them they will follow you for food the rest of their lives.”"

Yes. If you didnt get it, UWO wiped players are the plucked chicken. The rest you should be able to figure.

    Batt I respect your commitment to the game and also your decision to leave.

    But don’t come on here making comments like that, which pretty much label those of us that will continue with the game as mindless foolish chickens that are completely brainwashed and unable to make a wise choice.

    If I continue to play it’s because I want to, not because I have been bullied and beaten and turned into a little scared sheep that will follow anyone or anything.

    I find your ‘story’ insulting and needless pal.

    Your in actuallity trying to shame us into not playing which in turn makes you Stalin.

    Pretty good analogy. I respect that some people want to stick with the game because they love it, but arguably, the game we knew and loved is on the verge of being lost forever, and what replaces it will likely never be able to replace it.

    Me, I will continue contacting the people in charge; KOEI has already responded that while OGP and Vertigo/Papaya are the ones to talk to, they'll still be passing information on to the relevant departments. We lose nothing by trying to reach out like this, but could gain everything in return. And if not? At least we'll know we tried.

    Yah so Saul Caine was an asshole doesn't mean everybody else is im gonna be blunt does papaya pay trolls to bash customers cause immfamas killah frozen ruby noobness. I wipe is the worst thing you can do so now i guess i'll have to get a life or something. You'll see people dont want to do it over thats bullshit to your customers im willing to pay to have my toons salvaged they know my email.

    I once had a conversation with fellow countrymen (I went to ail to bury the last of my father's sisters). At the funeral for a cup of tea came, as usual, about different differences, about kings and sages, including about Stalin.

"And now look," - said and let the naked chicken to freedom. She would rush away where her eyes are looking, but she does not run anywhere - in the sun it is unbearably hot, and in the shade it is cold. And she presses, she, poor thing, to the tops of Stalin's boots. And then the leader threw a pinch of corn - and she followed him, where he was, and she, and otherwise, clearly, the trigger would be gone from hunger. "That's how it is necessary to govern the people," he said only for edification.

    Sadly, the chicken story is a true life story in many cases of abusive relationships. The abuser terribly mistreats their victim, be it verbally, psychologically, physically, or some combination thereof, then comes back and makes overtures of being sorry, and it'll never happen again, and look at what I got you to prove what you mean to me, etc. -- typically, the victim then accepts this token offering that in no way makes up for their ill-treatment, genuinely (and wrongly) believing things will get better in the future, when the opposite holds true.

    This might sound harsh through text and I am very sorry for those of you who spent so much cash and time over the years on UWO (I was only an off and on player and still lost my r20 SB and an Annette almost ready to jump in an FS Gran Fluyt without ever using a voyage record, we all lost time and money here) but I think some people need a reality check.

    Whenever anyone on GAMA got to talking about how imbalanced certain things in the cash shop or fusion past g3 were they were met with, "well the company needs money and the big spenders are responsible for keeping the lights on, be grateful!"

    Well if you guys want to claim responsibility for GAMA's success then chin up and claim responsibility for it's failure now. You just weren't spending enough anymore, wasted too much money on 3rd party ducats when you couldn't sell SSIPs fast enough to get your next G6. The cut OGP was getting from the ducat seller's just wasn't enough anymore. 

    More importantly though you brought this on yourself. For seven years you let yourself get fleeced by seriously sketchy companies with a manipulative business model. If you had rejected all the BS and stopped spending early on like when they introduced Jumbo Bonds or God Guns we could have gotten to this point years ago and not wasted so much time.  But naw, instead you just let yourself get ripped off and gobbled that stuff up.

    Whales' spending habits and gaming mentality have lead to Candy Crushes and Hearthstones taking over the industry and I can only feel so sorry for them.

    I'm not confident Papaya Play will be any better than netmarble or OGP but it'll be fun finding out, at least they're trying something new. I wish GAMA would have seen a better end, OGP were crooks. But everyone should have known that.

    Whoa bruh we never had an issue transfering from g potato to netmarbe to og planet. only og planet to this company i think it is og screwing us up the poop chute but i cannot prove it. we did support them but they did not care.

    This entire fiasco might have been avoided with a longer downtime and more careful thought about how to handle the transfer. There is now a huge trust issue because we are confident they are not telling us the entire truth. Not dedicating someone to better communicate with the populace might cause them more headaches than the temporary grief of fielding so many complaints.

    Batt, your anecdote is mostly appropriate. They have something we greatly desire. However, it is not something we need to survive. In the end, even though it might cause us some pain, we can just walk away. This oversight might be the death of UWO.

    I am coming back to UWO once PvP system is fixed and I do respect the decision from new publisher on wiping the server. It's nearly impossible to fix the broken economy and balance if hold the craps that made by two previous failures. UWO was like sinking a ship without captain anyways. This will be a good opportunity to gather more players in a well designed structure for both new and old players.

    .... can I finally post? Many many of us have been unable to post since the announcement.

    If so, LZ alot of the Vertigo/PP people are from OGP, including the head for North America (after an 8 year stint at OGP) and at least one of the guys who was the team lead for our game at OGP. If you start tracing the employment history for the more senior staff, you will find they all go way back together. For those that think its going to be a whole lot different.. surpise! Alot of the same team, just at a different address.
