New start questions

TornSkyTornSky Posts: 11Member Beginner
For us new players that don't know what all went into the game. I had just received India port permit, If i unlock it again will I not be able to go straight to Calicut and start buying pepper? What will have to be done in the beginning to start unlocking things? What does investing actually do?

Well I don’t really know what needs to happen myself, but all I can say is by the time a newer player gets to Calicut the vets will of been there long before and unlocked plenty of it.

well i can fill u in on how the unlocking ports started out,

first off depending entire on how large your nation player base is will determine how many IQ's will need to be done by your nation to unlock the port permit for the nation.

a good example u get 6 points towards the nation unlock of the port permit for say india, so that's 6 points towards 5-6.5k required to unlock ur port now this 5k is the standard that was for france 6.5k was closer to portugal so the large the player count in a nation the more IQ's need to be completed to unlock the port for that nation. a better example would be the IQ's u needed to do to unlock South East Asia or EA u had to do 1 IQ because it was already unlocked to the nation. all the outer permits will be locked and will have to do IQ's to unlock each port permit from scratch

For future reference Ivyro has a list of port permits in the order you need to do them in, complete with fame requirement listing and the available IQ quests you can do.

IQ = Imperial Quests i assume.

So the first people to unlock India will be able to just go there and buy from markets without having to do anything special? I've just been reading all the posts about investments and don't know whats involved.
  • FrozenRubyFrozenRuby Posts: 286Member Intermediate
no they still have to invest in the ports IQ's ur looking about 1000 IQ's for that nation or more to complete before that port permit becomes available to be used by that nation its not so simple as doing 1 IQ or getting fame up its the long process of unlocking the rights to that port permit for your nation by completing 100's of IQ's by ur nation to get it unlocked and that includes port permits for carribs India south america sea EA and all other port permits u unlocked during the OGP and NM days

    To the Original Poster:

If you powergrind Fame to open India right out the gate, you will be able to buy Pepper once you get there. It requires no Investment and no Port Development. Source: http://uwodbmirror.ivyro.net/eg/main.php?id=01600207

Now imagine getting 6 points per quest, with the national permit requiring 5,000. Imagine that only players with access to the Caribbean permit -- which comes after you have unlocked all of Europe, all of Africa, the Red Sea and India -- are offered the quests in the first place. Imagine that only a tiny portion of those who do have the permit are going to bother doing them, because the rest are, er, busy running textiles from Genoa to Tunis. In all of France, the leaders of the main companies estimated the number of active players with the Caribbean permit at somewhere around 50, perhaps 70 at most; two weeks later, I'm suspecting that the number of French players doing the quests, not particularly impressive to begin with, has been whittled down by boredom. I would include myself among those who could not take the grind anymore and stepped back, and I know two others who did the same just in our company. I now estimate the time to unlock the permit at two or three months; needless to say, I wonder whether I will have moved on by then.

As of writing, France has a little over a third of the 5,000 points required, while England has already unlocked its permit by getting its 6,500 points. The difference in requirements is apparently based on an amalgam of population and investment levels, or population alone, with the nations most to be pitied having lower requirements; however, this implies that France has a population 76 percent the size of the English, which is far from the case. Furthermore, if investment levels play a part, how can we explain that Venice, long confined to the Adriatic with only one allied town to its name, and suffering from its main leaders having called it quits shortly after release, also needs 5,000 points? Yet, last I heard, even Venice was ahead of France for the South American permit -- and think about it: Venetians have to sail back to Venice every time.

How long before you start thinking: France sucks? With a natural geographic disadvantage, an unattainable objective and a core of players who prefer their daily Mediterranean drudgery to long-term enjoyment of the game, not long, I should think. And when you know that every further sailing permit -- Southeast Asia, West Coast of the Americas, the Panama and Suez Canals, and East Asia -- works in a similar way, and requires every previous sailing permit in turn, when do you decide it isn't really worth it and join your brethren doing their Genoa routine, or just quit the game? Perhaps that is how UWO can claim, in its perfect Engrish, to "guarantee more than 3 years of playtime even you are a extremely hardcore gamer with endless places to visit, people to meet, things to explore, and more".

Unlocking Europe, Africa, India, and the Caribbean
Unlocking Europe is done by completing beginner/intermediate school, once completed you will receive the permits. Receiving Africa, India and the Caribbean can be done by two ways. You can either do the event history of your nation which will you you the permits or receive each permit by total fame. Once you have acquired all these permits you are able to move on to the other permits which are done by quest.

The numbers in this picture means fame required to unlock the port permits. The ones in parenthesis is the fame required doing the event history, to unlock the port permits, without parenthesis is how to unlock the permits WITHOUT doing the event history.

    Fastest way method

I suggest you start as adventurer because of sail handling, surveying, and search.

    1. Complete all beginner schools to get all cards.

    Adv= Fisher
Trader= depend on what's your goal ie casting, sewing, cooking or Caribbean trader (Accountant)
Maritimer= Mercenary to get repair, accuracy and swordplay

    2. Complete 2 job quests at intermediate school

Trader= anything or complement to ie Medicine Trader to get Handicrafts while u already have alcohol and luxuries.
Maritimer= Junior Officer to get gunnery, ballistic, leadership ,and tactics for sber

    3. Complete Intermediate Adv school to get all Europe permit, job card and Memorial Cruise Sloop.

I recommend you to change to Excavator to get Unlock for Adv school later.

    4. buy 4 Reserve Candles because you will struggle against bosses for being time ,but you won't need them anymore after your accuracy and gunnery rank up few times.

    5. Take Marseilles BR

    1. Buy Perrier or High Perrier 8 guns at Marseilles Sy Weaponsmith
    2. equip Iron Plating and decent sails from starter pack or buy one because Starter Packs might be changed or even gone since it's belong to OGP.

That's all you need for BR. Just attack 3 fleets of Bandits to sink them so quick. Then you will get message about powerful enemy is watching you for opportunity. Turn off caution then keep sailing but stay away from green zone (ports or land points) till they ambush you.

You need to sink 200 ships and beat 4 bosses. The enemies unlikely will do critical hit on you ever that's why you don't need high end cannons, sails, etc.

Two different things being discussed here.

In order to gain access to India etc you need fame.

In order to unlock India in the first place you need IQs.

People did this years ago on the OGP instance - it looks like it will have to be done again on the new instance.

Although it is only player stats that have not been passed across, so there his hope.

Once you unlock India port permit again, yes, you will be able to go to Calicut and buy pepper, I imagine now that with everything wiped clean, ports will need investments again to development the city for better trade goods, item shop and craftshop when available along with shipyards (ship parts and ships in general), etc, etc. Investments open more items for you the higher the economy gets and of course increases your fame and likelihood of getting a higher court rank. Investments also win the port over to the country with the highest percentage, which means players from that nation will have less taxes for trade goods and better haggling prices.

I wouldn't count on India Port Permit for awhile though as everything starting fresh needs to be built back up again, so this may take a while, perhaps up to a year if anything, but who knows.

So are we sure the server development is wiped??

They stated a reset of our characters to fix economy but server development has zero effect on player based economy. By this i mean people arent hording all the top gear.

The OP's question has been answered.  The vast amount of answers have not:  Port permit unlock is easy.  What is that fastest way to gaining Spice Trader profession?
  • KanzakiKenzanKanzakiKenzan Posts: 42Member Beginner
You'll need to grind Perfume Trading to r3, then get Spice Trading at Calicut. En route to Calicut, you should stop off at Sao Tome. Invest to 180k then buy any of the Pearl accessories to give +2 Spice Trading. Best place to grind Spice Trading after you've got the skill is the triangle of ports in the Balearic Island zone - Palma, Valencia, Barcelona. Buy all spices in Palma, then Valencia. Sell everything in Barcelona. Wash, rinse repeat. Always repeat. Grind to r3 base (2 if you manage to snag a Panja somewhere or even hiring Erda as your first aide). Travel back to Calicut to start the Job Quest
