You could try Voyage Century.

It feels like a 15 year old version of UWO with bad translation.

All the basic elements are there, just not put together very well and with worse graphics.

The hard part is working out how to do things.

But with another two weeks to go it does pass the time.

I recommend a non-MMO such as the original Colonization (by Sid Meier)

or the Fan updated version:

They are similar in many ways to UWO except more strategic and short.
