btw, there are so many crafting and production skills to grind,by the time we open carrib i doubt peeps will be maxed on many of them.plenty to grind on
Like i previously stated Management only recieves prof from Great successes WHILE sailing. Not while sitting in ship anchored. You have to be moving and gettibg GSs. That is why it takes so long to grind management
i agree that steering should be near the top on this list, also sail handling is important, as passives they will rank on its own... in time.
i also suggest surveying, sailing without it can be hard.
you need ARMS as soon as possible that skill only ranks when you battle on the sea against similar or stronger enemies so if you start at level 60 you have to kill only FCVs to get any prof at all.
Desire spawns madness, madness collapses into disaster. mankind never learns...
Well i for one will get arms/navi/mangement as soon as i hit 20/20/20 Also remember the ship ur sailing HAS to have a skill on it inorder for those 3 to tank. Just a bought or built shipyard ship won't work unless u've modded a skill onto them.
fishing, cooking and storage are my main crafts. Rank 15 or higher fishing is pretty cool with the multiple tunas and such. I've sewed when I had to but never made anything like cannons. I hope I don't have to go there.
High trading skills makes almost all crafting very easy and quick. I was always the top skilled merchant that i knew of and always heard about how bad the grind was. I didnt see it that way because i was rank 10 in everything trading and much higher with the correct job slotted for the task.
Theres no rush, but i would highly recommend working up your trading skill first, then start crafting hardcore later on.
Alright, here is my personal priority list, which shoul apply to new players too. (note that i created this from memory so, did not remember the exact skill names)
This is what i did, i took out a notepad on desktop, then went to ivyro, made me a list of all the skills i wanted. then i took and removed it down to 51 which is total u get from levels + maybe we still get that +1 from astronomy. also remember u have 5 bookshelfs and also 5 skillnotes, but i didn't worry about that as much. then i removed all but those 51 skills, then i moved them around in an order as to what was most important for me to grind first. I personally plan on being a pirate, but i also want to get the good adv stuff from quests so i need a good bit of adv, and of course spice trading/nanban skills as well as crafting/sb and relative trade skills for the crafting/nanban. it took a bit but after i did it i was much more confident in my direction of play. Your playstyle will determine what skills, like one posted don't need reloading, well until my gunnery/balllistic's/accuracy is max refined i will be needing reloading, then i can actually delete it completely. Same with the skill merc knowledge. Once u have the r2 trade techs u can delete that skill it's not needed. Sociability is actually needed if u plan on doing lots of trade for your money. It assists u with accounts when doing haggles.
Imo they should just do away with skill slots and everyone start with all the skills like most other games and MMOs. This would alleviate the issue of lacking skill slots to get that wanted skill. Would be especially helpful to the players new to the game which always complain about not being able to get a skill because they don't have a skill slot. I do feel they should still keep the favor system in place though. Perhaps even do away entirely with some of the more useless skills like wining and dining, reloading and provisions.

Also it is required for the factory.. yes i know manchester is far off but Rank 13 management for 18 cannons or carronades isnr easy to get to.
