i would agree with new player rewards just make them untradeable so people like kanata don't abuse it by makng another 30 new toons. But then again u have to know kanatta. He's one of those who can afford to spend lots of money, and he does. He wants the most and the biggest no matter the cost. I doubt he has 30 alts, i bet its closer to 50.
I m shure that everyone who loves this game and want to see him on top again, will let everyone know about the relaunch and they will do what they can to bring as many new players as they can.
Shure..this whould have to be made by Papaya...but let s just do it our selves than wait for them to promote the game.
I think the reset may bring some players back into the game, especially those who have become frustrated with the server inflation. And the newer players will probably return if they don't mind re-grinding skills, experience, and fame.
But unless the Founder's Rewards are very generous for re grinding, I don't think a lot of veteran players will come back to this game. And many of these players will probably go onto Steam or other places and leave very negative reviews about this game.
I wish the players who are deciding to stick with this game all the best. UWO deserves a healthy, positive player community. But I truly wonder how long this game will continue under Pappaya after the server wipe/reset/whatever-you-want-to-call-this-change.
This one is for the guys who are censoring our comments here, not even meant to be posted, so just read it and then block it, as you did with my previous post. Folks, if you want to see the effects of this censorship policy, just go and read the comments on Naval Action's Steam page. This kind of attitude alienated their community to such a point that it's now in shambles and hardly anyone plays that game. If you want to gain the trust of your (potential) customers, take a step back and leave the community express itself.
To be fair, advertising before there's a product probably isn't the best move. If someone is intrigued by an ad, clicks, and finds that the game won't be out for another week, they'll move on and forget all about it. The game needs to relaunch before they advertise it much.
I was drawn to the game not from advertisement, but from Steam when I did a broad search on Age of Sail games and this one popped the top of the list, I don't regret playing and plan to play when the re-launch is complete. My hope is they answer our concerns about transferring our Steam Account to PP, so far I have submitted a support ticket with no answer, but have seen a post by a PP moderator saying more to come for those of us with Steam. I will remain positive and deal with what is happening the best that I can, I enjoyed learning the game and helping others and certainly will do so again.
Papaya is part of Vertigo Games. Vertigo Games claims to have 13m+ Users, in 42+ countries. Even if just 1% of that population joins, it will be wayyyy more than the remaining small crowd that OGPathetic has exposure to. Not to mention, even though a few of you claim to be quitting (talk is cheap), many other players have been waiting for this wipe for years and are waiting in the wings to return.
With proper promotion and exposure, the game can potentially be much more populated than any of you cry babies can imagine. Its essentially a brand new game.
People don't tend to play super grindy games like this anymore. Most gamers want flashy graphics and instant gratification. This game's learning curve and slow incremental progress has always made it a niche game. If they want to make this game more attractive to the newer batch of gamers they really need to speed up progression.
In the current gaming market it just isn't realistic to expect players to invest a real life year to build a character. That's a year with purchased charms and enhancements, several years without. On top of that, you set the precedent of wiping away everyone's progress and items they spent money on.
UWO is hard to find on the web...I can't remember if mmorpg is the website that it won a best game award back in the NM days or not. Bad thing I run into is no one knows Koei either....I have 3 of their games but people still think I'm talking about goldfish when I say Koei (I probably pronounce it wrong.)
The FM program is great and sometimes I think they were even able to send someone to help a player in trouble, but they couldn't do it themselves ...maybe if there was a way for people willing to help to know when there's trouble. I loved helping if I could, but not having school chat, there weren't many times...usually it was when players were using /tell or /shout.
With the economy back to normal(?) it will help a lot for new players I think. When you do all the schools, most students aren't rich and I know there were long time players in school chat helping, but also hurting by bragging about their main toons wealth ...very bad for the new player who has a million to hear about fifty billion. I've always thought a big payday for finishing all the schools would help a lot, even with the new economy. At least for awhile there won't be many older players giving ducats away.
Papaya could try to make the game known to older game players...like retired people who love history, or sailing. I know one like that who will play someday, but he has to retire first...he tried game and knew it would take up too much time.
This is probably just my opinion, but I never liked the trailers for the game. I like the way UWO looks, even if it could be better, it doesn't need to be. To watch the trailer makes it look like the game will have way better graphics than it does...so obviously some people will be disappointed when their toon appears for the first time. At least include some of the actual game in the trailers. Besides...if they get older people to play I'm pretty sure they're used to really primitive graphics...so UWO doesn't look so bad to them.
I don't know if all the chat rooms are used either. World, Merchant and sometimes Adventure are, but if any are always empty, make that one a "HELP ME" channel for new players when school players can't help them. I know they can use World chat, but sometimes the conversations there get so weird the person asking for help gets ignored or worse, insulted. Their question might sound dumb, and sometimes they don't know how to ask it in the right way, but they need a place where they will be heard and not demeaned for asking.
Or create a anything goes room and make World chat the HELP chat.
And if Koei could, reduce the grinds of schools even more...I know they cut the number by half, but cut it even more, maybe with advice about the extra fame and experience they can get doing more grind but without requiring it.
Plus lower the levels on the graduation frigate. It's a nice beginner boat, but most players finish all the schools without being able to use it. The frigate would be perfect for the final maritime examine and yes, players can wait and come back later to finish, but there's another problem.
Some games apparently require a person to finish the tutorials or there will be things they won't be able to do in the game. It's not true in UWO, but how many beginners realize that. I helped enough new players to know they thought for sure they had to finish the school to open up everything else...so they were having trouble with the final battle ....they weren't ready and sometimes had a terrible ship to do it with or their ship had lost too much durability to survive.
Oh....unless the low level safety factor is staying in the game...the geo final exam is going to put new players in danger and if that's their highest adventure skill...they don't have the choice about going into hostile waters. The adventure finals are all normal quests too..so why not make the geo final a different location quest.
New players may like the game..but it takes time to really love it....take away as much as possible that makes them rage or feel like their too dumb to master the game.......and yes...I've helped some who felt that way. They have no reason not to quit when the game makes them feel bad.
Now I just have to wonder if my post will even show up......most of mine don't.
Advertising always been a problem for this game, i would have been playing years earlier had i known about the game, was still lucky enough to start under netmarble. They did that reset painlessly, i would be happy to get my account reset to that savepoint, be better than nothing.
Coming back or not coming back is your chioce, but remember one thing, Papaya knows our user name, password and levels but they said the data is lost, so do not spend real money, because we don't know when to change agent and wipe again, let's play it for free!!!
