Weeding out the pampered players who shun piracy..

InfamousKillaInfamousKilla Posts: 165Member Beginner
OGP mistakenly catered to this whiny bunch, and it directly affected the game in an extremely negative way. Fortunately, those type of players will not survive in the new game. Most will just download the game, look at their founder's rewards and then come here to complain before they quit for good. This time their woes will go unnoticed and UWO will be finally be a success once more.

Farewell quitters! You can go find something else to bitch about now.

many pirates also were whiny crybabies as well     how many whined when the pillage order exploit was use against you?   how many cried when dungeons were full and seas were empty?  you want the game to be played your way and to hell with everyone else. they want the game to be played their way  and to hell with everyone else.   you cant make everyone happy.  many pirates had the same pampered entitled sense for themselves  so before you blame those who dont like it, look in the mirror and take a deep look at how much grief you all have caused the server too.
2 wrongs dont make a right
the real question is -   is there a middle ground we can all live with?

I proposed a middle ground when Piracy was nerfed to only trade goods and ducats, but nobody liked it then because of an "all or nothing" attitude. You can't have everything; you've seen what it's like to have nothing. So I'll put this proposal out there again:

Only items that aren't equipped should be eligible for Plunder. Ideally, folks will store away the things they'll most need in the bank. It should also encourage players to invest in Shared Storage, Strongbox, and all the Expansions. I understand this means nobody will be grabbing 100def gloves or 32/30 sails when we get that far, but there really is no logic to how someone in the middle of a pitched battle would have the time to rip them off without getting killed.

At the same time, as a side note, I'm looking forward to having at least 3 months of pirate-free waters once we get started regardless of what the rules are.

The guy who said he never saw any point in trying to catch up to higher level players with refined skills is calling other people quitters...? Ah, internet. You're always fun!

Instead of becoming the strongest, I became the fastest. I still had most of the world to finish charting to obtain the 10% acceleration boost everywhere possible, when the game was closed and my data wiped along with it.

Also, there is more to PVP than just max refining over a dozen skills which takes months of what actually feels like real work. For instance, there are ships that cost 100b just for the ticket.. Add another 50b to grade and mod properly. Also, don't forget about your Black Rong Fu, Volcanic Pistols, forging tools, +20 -0 plates, and so on which can cost hundreds of billions. Last but not least is cannons, my co mate paid 10b each for 5 IGHP's. Im sorry, but even if I was motivated and wanted to spend months grinding battle, I still wouldn't have 500b to compete..

Instead I chose to have fun and play the game how I wanted, but that doesn't make me a quitter.

You know this post is funny. It say weeding out the wimps that is against pirates. That is a lot of people who play. SO that means kick all them out and their will be no one to pirate. Just a thought

you do realize those in the Black sea will be in battle ships, maritime jobs, and prepared for fights, also probably in a party to speed up the process. so I say Good luck to you ha-ha, it wont be an easy task to pirate most there.

with a Decent ship and a party and a few candles each(preferably AoS), members with good maritime knowledge should be able to grind BRs there, just targeting the smaller NPC ships with no flags, easy ships that have approx. 200-300 durability. 200 of those in a party of 5 will not take long, and then if we get the EXP boosters like before you should be able to get about 150k-180k exp if they don't nerf that until higher levels.

     Infamous,
The nerfs did affect the game when some extremely whiny pirates left the game. But pirates affected the game prior to that. There was a decent amount of players that left because of being pirated. They also left because pirates were camping ports and making it impossible to even trade or adventure for a lot of the time.
I remember making it to Calicutt and then having to play another toon for a couple of days until I found a camping gap through which I could escape. I left the game for months because of the disconnects and pirates. I do not want to play the game to a pirate's tune. I want to trade and adventure where I want without being bothered by someone who gets his jollies by ruining the game for someone else.
Infamous, your attitude disgusts me. There are plenty of NPCs that you could pirate, but you do not want to do that because you would not be ruining someone else's fun. You scoff at Wendy because she "whined" about being pirated. Instead of caring about someone else's enjoyment of the game, you act as if his enjoyment has no meaning.
It is no skin off my nose as I am not coming back to the game. I just know that some good players are going to give it a try and I hate that their experience will be tainted by your uncaring soul.
And do not give me that "it is only a game" bs. Nor tell me that not being able to pirate ruins your game. There are NPCs, BHs, other pirates, and some amenable non-pirates that you could pirate. There is absolutely no need to pirate players that you know do not want to be pirated.

@Oberrill You seriously waited in port cause a pirate was "camping" you? lmao. Just go inside take off all items of value, store in vault, put up all but 20k in ducats, then sail and let him hit you. Get the green flag and sail on :) No need to be "held back" from your gameplay. I was hit many time by pirates and that was my strategy to port campers.

I roleplay. Having my ship sunk and my sailors killed matters to me no matter what. I could also dismiss my sailors, but then I would have to have my 100ql crew become a 60ql crew. In real life no trader would weigh anchor with a magically enhanced pirate and pirate ship waiting right outside the harbor.  Also, storing items in the vault can add up to 10s of thousands of ducats.
Playing another toon makes perfect sense. And, of course, 2 days means 2 days of real time. There were probably opportunities to leave when I was not in the game.

I also played without ever using anything but frugality. As I was roleplaying, I never subjected my sailors to starvation, thirst, beatings, etc. just to grind some bogus skills. My sailors ate and drank sparingly at sea, but they always had their fill at ports. Their loyalty was always at or near 100.

I'm happy for the pirates with the un-nerf happening.  I also hope that all these people so worried about getting hit by pirates will realize that unless you choose to try to fight or unless the waters are completely lawless you can just use fine tributes and loose a few ducats.  So please, pull yourselves together.

They aren't removing tributes are they?  That would change my cavalier attitude about piracy a bit :P  But I would adapt.  Also if I can get pillage ordered naked I'm not gonna be in love with that situation.  But I guess the pillage orders work both ways.  I'll just have to figure out where to farm them to be ready for that game.  Or maybe obstruction...

I really wish this company would end the information blackout and spill some real details of what exactly is going on.  Who's in charge of doling out the information around here, Kim Jung Il?  It's hard to get excited or even discuss such matters when all I know is...

"...revamp many aspects of PvP Battles, including plundered items and Deck
Battle frequency, plus a number of other system rebalances."

Now using words like "revamp", "frequency", and "rebalances" sounds like not just a straight un-nerf?  Am I right?  Sounds like some kind of balanced fix is happening?  Anyway, the hope that Vertigo seems to be recognizing some of the big
issues and attempting to do some balanced fixes rather than
taking the lazy all in or all out approach (or at least that's what
I'm reading into what cryptic little I have to go on) is one of the only things
helping me move beyond my disgust over the wipe and how it was handled.
I really hope they make some good decisions here.

But Deck Battle frequency?  WTF does that even mean?  You kind of go to deck once and the battle's over when there's a winner right?  One battle I can deck but the next battle no deck?

Really at this point what's the sense in even getting excited or upset about this.  What exactly are we even talking about?  Nobody even knows what the hell is going on.  I need to stop getting sucked in to this maddening forum.

  • ConcernedTravelerConcernedTraveler Posts: 42Member Beginner
What they need to do is "revamp the frequency" with which they release information, and "rebalance" how cryptic and vague they are.
  • CrzyPsycoChickCrzyPsycoChick Posts: 667Member Intermediate
Definitely need more transparency the next bit of information Papaya needs to release is the policy on alts and the policy on the game rebalances and changes this will  help retain players.

Also frequency of deck meaning how often it succeeds when attempted. When Netmarble had the game they wanted to make tons of money on forge gear (items that boost atk and defense of weapons that you Must pay for and couldn't trade) and their new turtle ships that blocked all melee and deck aswell. So Netmarble then screwed up the deck mechanic they made deck succeed at a super high rate 75% if you had deck barrier about 30% still way too high that was so imbalanced it caused people to leave in droves.

What I think Papaya will do is make it like the Chinese server where deck has a super low rate if you have no assault deck skill about 5% chance of suceeding. If you have assault deck and the person doesn't have deck barrier it's 50%. If the person has deck barrier and you have assault deck chance of deck happening is 0%.  That imo is extremely fair and balanced and without forge gear it will be balanced.

Anywho we'll see the game play changes that will be the determining factor for a lot of people Papaya please release it or your plans..

with the return of forging tools and deck   that sucks  god gear pirates again?  yeah that hurt server.
need to see pirate rules also. is there gonna be a cool down period?  or are they gonna be able to farm and be grievers like before?  that hurt server too.  pillage order  these pirates gonna use that exploit too?
gee looks like pirates also caused alot of damage to the server..
wonder why there were so many nerfs?
i dont care about getting hit- i dont want these grievers to try to farm me or others  i wanna play my game and be on my way.
i also wanna see what will be plunderable-  cause ogp and papaya  plundered enough from me already
  • aceman39aceman39 Posts: 943Member Intermediate
See  from what I read on the front page is this game is gonna become all about the pirates and screw the rest of us. Since they will be able to ruin the game for others as long as they get their way and they call us the cry babies go figure
