I see a lot of people worried about pirates. how they use game mechanics to exploit players.. are you telling me you never used a game mechanic to exploit trade.. or adventure..
People can easily defeat pirates; Take a different trade route. (initiative) stay in safe waters. (Initiative) Fly a Blue Flag ( cash store) use fine tributes (Crafteble) hire Protection (Initiative) outrun pirates with faster ship (prep) Be a better Maritimer (prep) buy safe passage (initiative) don't sail with a lot of ducats or good gear (prep)
I just gave you 9 options you can use, if you fail to employ any of them then that is your own issue.
I never exploited game mechanics when I did trading or adv. I did it by hard work and dedication and I grinding skills the old fashion way. Not using boosters or anything else same with adv
I say the update should have the market keeper sell Wuxu by the thousands at Dover then we can all take it to London and be billionaires in minutes.
Then we can close down the game and be satisfied we sucked all the fun and difficulty out of it.
People say that the game is now favouring pirates.... It’s not at all. It’s trying to give them a chance considering it’s been anti pirate for a good while.
People who come on here cos they like to trade or adventure need to realise that some also come on because they enjoy to pirate.
Have you ever used a Purchase Order? That is exploiting a game mechanic.
Same as a pirate will use Pillage orders. Its a game mechanic. If you dont carry items on you they can take while using pillage orders then its a waste for the pirate.
Again people use exploits.. same as adv exploits. People will use an alt. Read books. Get maps. Xfer to alt then continue to get maps.
Maybe they should make it so you can only have 1 map of the same kind on any character at any time. Wouldnt that just crush adv class..
Laviol, No it would not. My adventure toon never carried more than 1 map of any type at a time and I did just fine. My trader toon never used POs either and did just fine. I threw away all the free ones that could not be sold.
Killa , you called me a whiner when you pirated me ? . YOU have never pirated me . wendy was only ever pirated twice. first time by stacey , who then helped me do the lvl 60 unlock battle. cant remember who the other player was, but i was afk sailing , and came back from making my coffee to find myself in battle , but not in battle job or had gear equipped. after the fight , the pirate said he would take me to port. i didnt know at the time that they changed it so you got full crew on using recue skill , so i ended up towing the said pirate to catch up with a multi fleet that passed during the fight , and i caught them up in no time. I was a very local player in defence of piracy. you are not the best pirate . there have been many good pirates in the game . Morgan, jandor , Aellita , Franky . You would never make the list. early in the game on my original char , the only time i was pirated was at calicut , we didnt realise at the time that they were using spy alts . i had many players of my friends list who were active or semi active pirates, in fact most were. In early days i made a bit of money farming pirates . caught PayMe in baltic, he enjoyed the fight even though he lost 2 v 2 .a lot of companies did runs in fleet to hostile waters , with at least 2 very good maritime players in battle ships. 1 behind the admiral and 1 at the rear, so maybe pirates will not be as big as a threat as you think , if things go the same way, you will be hunted by BH fleets, used to do it myself , leading with ,my adv xebec in the days when it was the fastest ship ,I caught 1 pirate going red on my way back from ceylon with a full cargo of gems. i tagged him and 1 hit critted him . funny as hell . you are going to have a big target on your back, and just as many if not more good player as pirates that will be actively hunting pirates , you wont have it all your own way. Baby pirates live a hard but short life .
When a pirate port camped and I needed to sail, I always limited myself to a few million ducats and just sailed. (The pirate has got to get something for his troubles)
They almost always caught me, I always used a life preserver and sailed on and did not stop to complain. How else are you supposed to get to 85 Adventure, if you have to wait for the pirate to leave? I have 0 cannons and 0 munitions when i am in Adventure/Trade mode so even if your only 65 maritime you are going to win a cannon fight.
If you want to plunder my goods/items, by melee then I believe a trader/adventurer (any target of pirating) should be able to force a deck battle 100% of the time.
After i got to 80 maritime and got pirated, I always hit the deck battle button. Not a single pirate took me up on it. At least it will give an unarmed adventurer/merchant a chance if they have decent land battle skills.
How many of you pirates have master techs? 1/100 i would guess. Heck, most of the pirates attacking me are only 60-70 Maritime, and that is their highest level. They are too busy smack talking to actually grind.
Laviol, Your list is pretty lame and kind of a jerk thing to write. Most of it requires spending ducats, spending real money, or relying upon someone else who might not be available when needed. Be a better maritimer? Wow! What a stupid idea. Being a better maritimer is not going to help when the pirate has way more sailors, more armor, more guns, maritime ship skills, more ship durability. Take a different trade route? I have used all of them and I see pirates in search on every one of them. I especially did before the pirate nerfs. Stay in safe waters is too condescending to write more about. Only sailing a faster ship than the pirates has any merit. If you read these forums you will see Infamous bragging that he had the fastest ship in the game. He was not the only one with a ship faster than practically any merchant ship. How about instead you stop crying about people who do not want to be pirated are going to ruin your fun and just leave those people alone. Go pirate NPCs or other pirates? I guess not. Other pirates might be too difficult and you do not get the satisfaction of bullying someone when you sink an NPC. No matter how you want to try to hide it, in the end you just want to pirate because you get enjoyment from ruining someone else's fun. Case CLOSED.
Much of the time in UWO, pirate versus trader is not PvP. It is PdT. That is pirate defeats trader. When one side has 100% chance of victory, that is not PvP.
Adding 10 days to your journey is usualy enough to avoid almost all pirates, if your getting camped in ambon you and a few freind park a couple martime alts in ambon to switch over and wreck shit up! Pirates wont be using good plate armor so basicaly one or two well placed shots will take care of business. More than likely though the show of force will make the camping pirates go look for easier targets so your good to go! One player to engage the pirates allows all those being camped to make a run for it! you should be taking turns for best efforts.
quick tips and i probly have more somewhere in here lol
I have been known to fire on pirates before while trading. I might have been out matched and knew I would lose but I was protecting a lower level merchant on their first run to SEA
well pater i can't speak for the other pirates, but it wouldn't have been good to click the deckbattle button against me :D. I'm not lazy and i did grind all the battle skills as well as grinded the finesse, also, sniping, bow attack(at the end) throwing, trap, merc knowledge. :D But it's not always been the case. Was one time in my first llm, i attacked a trade ship, i was super cocky and engaged melee, then clicked deckbatle. Went to deck instantly, and i got happy, YAY some plunder. When both players appeared on the deck, i realized i had made a mistake :D Generals cloak, silver helm, 100d boots/gloves the whole works. That trader was none other than darkheart (placed in top 5 of every landbattle tourney i seen him in) needless to say that trader plundered me :D So instead of complained, you could very easily spend the time to grind ur landbattle skills so protect urself. And ur right pater, lots of pirates are lazy and don't or didn't grind landbattle, even when we could force deck. So if ur a trader and u grind ur landbattle from the start. U won't be having many problems from pirates, u could infact make money each time one attacks u.
I am not even a pirate. I am a trader and maritimer.
All my points have merit.
Your complaining about spending minimal ducats to protect your gear or cargo.. with fine tributes..
Moving your course over a tiny bit to save time will not avoid pirates. You have to go way off course and add days like was mentioned here..
I am done giving you the info you require to be a better player.. if you wanna sit here and still complain and not listen then that is your own issue. Not the pirates that steal your gear or cargo.
I have been writing more for others than for me. I have not been hit by a pirate for years. When I see them in search or camping a port I just log out and fire up another toon. But I would rather be able to keep playing as I want instead of being forced to do something else by a pirate. To be honest, I cannot stand the attitude of people who want to pirate players who do not want it. I know I can give fine tributes but I just do not want to give anything to pirates. Having said that I know there have been some nice pirates. The last time I was pirated he hauled me to the port I was heading to and also used MCCTs to repair all the damage to my ship including the lost durability. We had a nice conversation on the way and I thanked him before he sailed away. I think it is funny how when I mention you pirates should fight other pirates, all of you pirates ignore that part. Only Infamous has admitted that his enjoyment comes at the expense of another player. We have no idea how Papaya Play is going to handle piracy. They would have to be pretty stupid to get rid of all the piracy nerfs. A toggle would be best.
The job of a pirate in real life and in game is to attack the weaker. The easy target and plunder goods.
We could attack each other all day long and also BH......zero to plunder!
Also pirates (most of them) have relatively low dura ships compared to what is available and often don’t carry cannons that could do massive damage.
Standing toe to toe with a BH would be pointless.
I’m a nice pirate but and also a nice trader. Just because one decide to pirate doesn’t mean they are a nasty person it means they have chosen an aspect of the game provided by KOEI and papaya.
As I said to others if you don’t want to play a game with pirates don’t play UWO
And that goes for me too with my main who is a trader.
Well..i don t play this game for long...but what i can thell you,is that in the last 2 months before the shutdown,i was attacked by pirates 1TIME.Just one time in 2 months.
And i have done some serious sailing around the world.I didn t stay in safe waters.
The one pirate who attacked me was Lugio...but in fact he didn t really attacked me...he changed his mind,i don t know why but i was close to San Juan,i had cargo,i had alot of cash on me,but of course i was in a battle ship not a trader one.
So what i want to say is that the chances to be attacked by pirates is not so high, and even if you are attacked that doesn t means you will loose for shure.
And i have seen alot of great pirates chased on the whole map by some other players and they run like hell :)
So stop worry too much about them and enjoy the game as it is.

It’s part of the game. We need to accept it.
But that’s part of the game pal.
And no one is forced to if they use one of the many things available to them.
Tribute, blue flag, a non obvious route, fast ship, high dura ship an escape skill...or stay out of hostile waters.
It’s all part of the game pal.
If people don’t like it they have chosen the wrong game.
If you choose to go for bigger rewards in SEA and EA then you also accept bigger risk. Thats the nature of the game.
Simple.
So AGAIN to re-iterate the game does not force you to pvp. But if you proceed into hostile waters your accepting the fact that you may need to pvp.
