I am in the same boat as you Patersmith66, I have an open ticket on this as well with no response as of yet. They did comment back before they took over that Steam and other accounts will be transferred over as well, so I anticipate (hope) they will follow through on this.
Just like all those who've decided to leave arent posting. We all know that a big part of the old community kept to themselves, they never spoke up in merchant or all chat, they never posted on forums, they just played. So id guess the old population is 3-5x more than what's being polled. so with those numbers. 98 returning from 126 that means 300-500 players coming back, plus as i've pointed out, this game will be on their launcher and website will be bring in more players. Also alot of older players may return that quit for #1 reason = piracy nerfs, #2 reason = Coolwind. Stop complaining and posting if ur leaving, if ur staying is complaing helping any? See here's the problem, before changes only affected a part of the population so the rest mocked and laughed at us for being upset when we complained. Well now EVERYONE is affected the same. So taking ur aggressions out on other players cause they are willing to ADAPT and continue to play is pitiful. How much of a lame person u gotta be to continue to degrade people who suffered the same as you but are big enuff to carry on? Seriously????
Please Stop Hatin on Players who have decided to Continue on Playing UWO.
I knew a guy (who's not returning) who had some 100 toons. I'm guessing 30+ accounts. Assuming most toons were in the 1-30 tier. And going by the papaya website, which says if you have more than one toon (per account? we have to assume) you'll get one reward, based on the highest level.
=> if this guy returned, he'd have some 3 bil of startup money from the storage dummies alone, plus a bil from the chars he was actually playing (I remember him on two)
Compare this with somebody working on one or two accounts, and putting emphasis on skills rather than levels.
=> what the reward system rewards is exploit-driven power levelling and (most of all) plurality of accounts
There goes the level playing field myth we've been hearing about.
I doubt Papaya have any idea about this. Or about anything else, for that matter.
It's not about what you will do. Your whole UWO nation needs to do a number of IQs to accumulate contribution points to unlock an area, so that AFTER THAT any player from the nation can get the port permit with one IQ only. When you did it "before OGP shut down", a few years earlier some people had done the required work to bring it all to the easy stage where you found it.
When I say "a number of IQs"... let's do some math.
I used to do IQs whenever convenient, I liked the PAs. I used to check the number of contribution points my nation had, just for the fun of it. It didn't really matter beyond the first push. The unlocking threshold was in the 1000s. Exact numbers seemed to depend on relative national strengths. I'll take the smallest number I remember seeing, 4500.
Each IQ gave a small number of contribution points, maximum 10, often 4 or 8, depending on the difficulty/stars. Let's take 10 for ease of calculation!
=> at BARE, BARE minimum 450 IQs will be needed PER NATION to unlock each of:
- east latin America
- SEA
- west latin America
- Panama
- Suez
- EA
=> total 2700 per nation
=> grand total 16200 imperial quests at minimum before the whole new UWO can start nanbaning
AT MINIMUM. My assumptions were simplified and best-case. The number may easily double.
If I were you guys, I'd petition Papaya to add some artificial contribution points there. There should be a debug mode where that's possible. All games, all software out there have a debug mode for such tweeks.
One of the things that I am concerned about is that the 20-25% so "estimated" players who are leaving may be the hard core spenders who feel robbed of their huge investments. I would be angry if I spent over $1000 on a game and had nothing/zip/nada (maybe memories) to show for it afterwards. If UWO was a buy the game model (Say a top tier game for $60) then at least I would still have the game ...
I did spend a lot of time on the game but only bought the things that I needed to get to the elite levels, such as the extra skill slots, extra inventory slots, SSIP's, Astro only ship parts etc.
I know there is a fine line between making and losing money for the host, and since it is not KOEI running the server, there is an extra level of expense for Papaya to pay to make this game a workable business model.
I am not certain that the "75% is staying is good" theory is a solid economic model, when I am pretty sure the 75% who say they are staying are going to be better off after than before because they never spent much on the game.
The first 3 years I played, I dropped about $150/month on the game, which is about $5400 US. After I got divorced I had a lot less disposable income, so that went down to about $40/month, or less. I'm 60-40 quit or come back at this moment.
patersmith66 I can thell you that some players have spent in 7 years even 8000 $ or more...i have heard someone spent over 20000...that i don t know for shure but belive me when i say that some players, maybe a very small number put alot of money in this game.
It's akin to and perhaps identical to a gambling addiction. Open the bottle, pop the chest, unlock the door, let's see if we can hit the jackpot. No? O darn, let's try again and get that adrenaline rush and dopamine feeling.
I have known people who have spent upwards of 5000 USD on a game, have the game go belly up, and without much delay start spending money at the same rate on a new game. And when that game pales for whatever reason, switch to a third game. And always on the lottery represented in UWO by the bottle.
None of them were ever my friend. It is a very common phenomenon, includes many players of UWO, and has been confirmed by some of the recent revelations I have read on these forums concerning spending habits.
There are a lot of middle class people who spend thousands every year on their passion.. whether it be hunting, fishing, golf, going to NFL games... etc. To make a judgement that a player spending $400 a month on a fake game is rich or imbalanced.. is misguided. For a factory worker to live frugally, and even cut back on pop drinking and other luxuries to spend a little more on their game is a sign of dedication and passion. For new players to badmouth these whales as rich, lazy, unstable persons... is like.. beyond the pale. They gave the most, they lost the most. No one deserved to lose years of something which MMO companies are supposed to protect like their nuts... their server user data.
i knew a guy who spent 30k in one month on UWO in netmarble days, he even showed me his paypal statement. he did this a few times but the one time he didnt get that ship he wanted he did a charge back and apparently nearly bankrupted NM.
He found out who the second biggest spender was on the server and they started to compare notes on % rates of the boxes, the conclusion was not good. They apparently combined forces and stop spending a did chargebacks. soon after NM sold the rights to OGP.
Not sure exactly how accurate this story is but it definatly has some truth to it.
Here's 1 possible forumla, i reckon u can use it. I'm assuming the $10 they giving is american so here goes. lol hope this is correct, based off the numbers from @lav and @dan
$1 = 90 uwc
1 peso = 5 uwc
so off those numbers:
18 peso = $1
since it says $10, that's 180peso
180peso x 5uwc = 900uwc
???
Not sure if it's more fair to give same number of UWC to each person or a money conversion?
Well that will help get restarted. At least wont have to worry about money for ships or gear in the beginning. I remember fishing for a few ducats to pay for items.

for me one are 100 pesos (like 6 dlls)
other one is 300 pesos like (17 dlls)
maybe i change my region
however, American's will receive 900 UWC per $10
so they may have to refine that a bit and just give everyone a specific amount, not a dollar amount. we will see .
