i have played this great game for 7+ years. to have all that work just lost is heartbreaking. it feels like i was robbed. i love this game and am having a difficult time deciding what to do. there are lots of pros and cons so i just don't know.
- Pros
- its easier to re-grind now than it was before.
- leveling is easier with charting- nanban- and battle reports
- i have the knowledge now to not make the mistakes i made before which puts me ahead of the curve.
- CONS
- losing everything
- starting over
- i dont trust papaya
- piracy rules i need to see what exactly they will be.
- most of my friends are not returning
- not sure if this game can survive this betrayal- lies- robbery

But if they say no, ignoring the very users they claim to put first, that'd probably make the decision a lot easier. It's your call to make; I wish you well in reaching that difficult decision either way, and thank you for your years of playing and service to help make UWO the wonderful game it once was. As fun as UWO was, it wouldn't have been worth playing without the users that shaped and cultivated it into the game it once was, and likely never will be again post reset.
It a good game, it will be interesting to start from the beginning.
Most competitive game I played.
I tried Pirates of the Burning Sea a long time ago but I wasn't fond of the art style or the ship battle and it just felt like a crappy version of UWO.
I played Archeage for a bit a while back. It was refreshing to have an open world without load screens. And I was half way to max level after playing casually for like 5 minutes which seemed lovely. But the cat people, all the weird looking buildings, and big goofy looking armour just isn't my scene. I didn't even stick with it long enough to get to the ship battle, which did look fun.
I played Gloria Victis a few times recently, which is still in beta and has a small population. No sailing and no real world locations. But it has kind of a Game of Thrones kind of vibe and I like the medieval open world, and the very low fantasy part. The PVE is fun and the PVP looks like a blast if I keep playing. It seems to have some extensive crafting. And I like the skill setup not being restricted at all. But not nearly as much to do as in UWO so again I keep coming back.
Sea of Thieves looks like really fun game-play. But the fact that it looks like a Disney cartoon keeps putting me off. I will most likely try that one eventually and see if I can't get past the cartoonyness of it since at least it has some exploration content on top of fun looking ship battle. Also it has a seemless world you can circumnavigate but sadly not based on the real world. Not sure about their crafting or economy.
I really like the realistic art style of Blackwake and the PVP looks like crazy fun. But that's all there is to it. I hop on youtube and marvel over how great the game looks and how fun the battles look but there is just nothing to do but non-stop PVP. So I go from "wow this looks awesome" to bored stiff after just checking out 15 minutes of game-play videos.
I looked at Black Desert Online which seems to have a lot going for it, but once again we get into the fantasy thing.
So I don't know man. You want a reality based or at least low fantasy MMO with ship battle, trading, crafting, and has some adventure or at least exploration... it's just not out there. You have to start making some big trade offs really quick and what you're left with is not even that good. I don't understand why we can't make an MMO with sailing that doesn't look like the armor was designed by Gene Simmons and has a bunch of mutant looking creatures running around. Not to mention all the corny battle effects that look like their meant to educe a seizure or entrance a four year old.
If anybody finds anything even remotely similar to what UWO has to offer, I would love to hear about it too. With everything I love about UWO the one thing that always got to me was all the relentless grinding. And now right as I had my maritimer, crafter and adventurer literally right on the cusp of end-game, it's all back to square one with the grinding again. Sisyphus comes to mind...
I will be back in UWO reluctantly. And I hope to start enjoying myself again eventually if I can make it past the grind to get back where I was. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't grasping at straws for something else to similar to play.
