I would be interested in hearing your views on Discovery skills. Which ones to start with, which gives best stuff, most useful. I know the opinions are out there. ;) Trying to decide what to do/get first.
Last time around some of the higher lvl quest rewards were lucrative, which really would direct my own decision on which items i can farm because of my high skill level and make the most Ducats! Ohh i cant wait for the 18th!!
If your the only one selling that sword or atleast one of few you will make alot of cash!!! Jack of all trades is a master of none( atleast not until you adventure a couple years real time)
I liked eco / bio and recog / geo stuff cause it kept you at sea more.
Early on though Theo, Arch, and Appraisal for bombing around the med and getting booster gear and weapons and such early will probably be good, we got quests to pull!
learn them all if you plan to do adv deeply by yourself. many chains cross the knowledges for get the final. If you expect to do adv on side, i suggest Biology, eco research n search. You'll get a decent amount of discoveries on all leveling scale, and ranger chain.

Appraisal, Archaeology, and Geography. The first two can get you some useful equipment early on, even from low level archive maps. Also, one or the other of them is on rare occasion a requirement for a shipwreck, as is Recognition, which you'd want for the latter two. Geography since many discoveries in all the fields are dependent on having first discovered the place they're to be discovered at.
Biology is nice because it has the most discoveries of any field, but as it requires the additional skill of Ecological Research, it may not be the best to be starting out with.
I understand doing them all is the end game. I'm talking about starting out, first few weeks. First things first. You literally can't "do them all" at one time. I'm asking what order are you Adventurer's out there go? It makes sense to get the skills where the quests give items and boosters early on. Geography is needed to open up ports or landings?
Only Geography is good for is just doing quest and making discoveries like that around islands or atolls. I like Thei as a starting skill cause you can do religious discoveries
Personally... I have thought about this and worried. I will start with Archaeology, Geography, and Theology. Although Biology has the most quests... it also requires Ecology. Geography requires recognition, but you need that for Sea Zone charting anyway. When skill slots allow.. I'd add Biology+Ecology, Appraisal, Astronomy.. in that order. Art is skippable unless your a fan, or want to do it all.
Like others said, if you're gonna do Adv then it's best to get all the skills but if you're looking to start small at first, it depends what you want. Bio/Eco Res is good if you want a lot of discoveries and quests. There are more of those than anything else in the game. If you're looking for good gear/boost items then I'd recommend Arch/Theo/Appr/Unlock. Those 4 will get you most of the good swords, armors etc. and you can complete most of those quests just hanging around the Med so with our slower ships you won't have to travel so far.
i'm a dedicated adv player. Getting all adv skills was my first goal after finishing school. no caution, no account, no gunnery in my early days in uwo. Once i got all my adv skills, i could develop into the others trees, mainly maritime for me and i never took account nor caution
I learned to sail with aimed guns and ceasefire agrement

For heavy adventuring you will need them all plus search unlock, if you just need to level your adventure rank when you have some time to spend then go for Geo+Rec if you want to sail or Bio+Eco if you want to explore the land. At the end it always depends on the character you want to build.
