Uncharted Waters (DOS) Playthrough

Like many others here, I am disheartened to hear that our characters and achievements will be completely wiped. The news was nothing short than a kick to the gut. But though I'm a little wary about the future of the game, I will always have a soft spot for it and the series as a whole. We have enough threads right now of people worrying about the game's future. Instead, I'd like to be a little more cheerful and look at the roots of the series -- the very first game, Uncharted Waters!
I remember when I first played this game years and years ago on the SNES. I had been a Koei fan since playing RoTK3 a little earlier. To see a game featuring one of my favorite periods of history was a surefire win for me. To be sure, this game's got some real problems. The sequel, New Horizons, is better in almost every way. But the original's faults give it a charm of of its own, and its complete lack of hand-holding makes you think carefully as you proceed. I picked the DOS version for this playthrough since it's a little more user-friendly than the other versions.
I will play through this in the coming days while we wait for the new servers to come online. Who knows, we might even have time for New Horizons! I'd love to hear from you guys the memories you have of the original games.
