Out of time...

So if this server reset is suppose to restart everything, does this mean the world clock and timeline will start over again as well? UWO covers the time span from the 1500's to the 1800's and we we're currently in the 1800's with the age of revolution. The whole age of revolution was caused by traders (like us) making our respective countries rich over the course of a few hundred years. Are they they going to say "hey history doesn't exist" and that everyone just 'woke' up one day in the 1800's and decided to go out and explore the world? If that is so, it seems kinda weird that the game will offer all this new tech and ships that nobody will be able to use or make for a good 6-12 months of the game play (conservative estimate).
I've only been playing for a little under 2 years now and i'm on the fence if this reset is a good thing or not. But what i do believe is the if you are going to reset everything, then actually reset EVERYTHING again as the time line will be all out of wack.
Helping run a company in the game i witnessed dozens of new players
join the game but well over 90% would quit after a few months due to
this game's huge learning curve and early play boredom. The fact is that
it takes many months to actually accomplish anything with character
development, and that development will be hindered by the fact that
there will be NO support from any other characters so it will take that
much longer to accomplish anything substantial.
My thoughts are that the characters should be transferable for this reset but limited as to what items they can take with them. Maybe something like only equiped items and ships can be brought into this new world, everything else gets deleted. Then atleast you would have your base gear and ships but skill set would remain intact to get started again. UWO will need the experienced players to help the new ones get into and stay in the game, especially when it comes to ship building skills. When i first started, i probably would have quit if it wasn't for the vet's helping me out with money, ships and towing services to get me going in the game early on. Bringing experienced characters into a new world shouldn't have a negative affect of the new economy, if anything they will be needed to kick start the new economy and get it going. Even if no items and/or ships are transferred atleast allow the core characters to come. I don't mind starting off with no gear, but i DO mind having to regind out all my skill set again. People work and go to school full time, do we really have the time to redo all that over again? When i first started i was told that skill set is more important than lvl's, so i focused more on my skills than lvl's. It doesn't look like the founder rewards really took that into consideration fully.
Truely we will all be 'out of time' with this new world reset. I hope that UWO will survive as i do genuinely love the game. I however hope it doesn't turn into a regular cash grab from the company with regular 'resets' like this, after all isn't this game suppose to be made for our enjoyment not the company's? Just my thoughts...
