Even 130 new players is good.. Before the server closed it seemed like there were only 20 players on chat.. Seriously though, if there's nobody to pirate I'm gonna be bummed..
Is the handwriting on the wall beginning to come into focus Killa?
I suspect at least some and perhaps many people are taking the course of action I have decided upon (thanks to the pirate wannabee who gave me the idea!)
On the OGP server I didn't mind so much getting plundered since the loss could be measured in disposable ducats. But if PP is going to allow my precious equipment to be plundered then I will be flying the blue flag in hostile waters. So instead of being able to plunder me from time to time the pirate community will be plundering me exactly zero. Does anyone wish to call this improved game balance for pirates?
OK, so I lose some RL $$ and the interesting tension from never knowing when I might be attacked and the necessity of some navigational skill both to avoid Player as well as npc pirates. So this is going to diminish the game's demand for skillful play, which is unfortunate. But I have decided that the tradeoff is worth it.
Part of the success in launching a new game is generating hype before the release. Aside from external advertisements, the best way to generate hype is to engage with your community. A team member could spend at most twenty or thirty minutes making one post per day until launch detailing upcoming changes and new features. That alone would probably make this place a little more positive. Meanwhile, forum mods could approve more people to post without being filtered, allowing them to be a part of the community.
With just a little effort, these small gestures would have gone a long way to growing the community and getting them hyped for the upcoming release. By not investing a little time up front, you end up wasting time later addressing support tickets from people who are frustrated by the lack of communication. All I can hope for is that Papaya learns from their experience going forward.
hello all , any idea for me as i was using fb to login to og to play uwo , now i cant transfer my account cos i dont know e og id ? help please for infromation ? i sent a ticket but only gotten a auto reply . i dont want lose my account due to the amount of time in game ;(
Really guys... With 4 days to go, even a Red name (or whatever color they are, never even seen one!) coming on here and saying something as simple as:
"We're sorry for the lack of communication. We are working hard to ensure the new release happens on schedule. We are unsure of any details at this time and will let you know as much as we can as soon as we can."
Frankly, I don't think it's in their best interests to release a lot of information about the changes being made. That serves no purpose other than risking people reading about them and deciding not to log in. Their best shot at a successful release is probably to release the information just after the servers are opened and people have started playing.
@rangerz - The pirates will never leave, no matter what they may say. However, if piracy is opened up for more gankfests and griefing (they call those the good ol' days) a lot of the non-pirates will leave. Just the way it is. Population of non-griefers dipped due to asian multibox pirate fleets, then after that was resolved, non-griefer population dipped again due to port camping.
I personally don't have issues with being pirated (someone even took my livestock secrets-pigs one time...good thing i had a spare), but there is no chance I'm going to play a game that will allow a farming of players just so a handful of kids can paddle themselves off and "lulz" in their company chat channel...
Almost all of us who will play already have and are willing to give it a chance to see how it goes. Obviously, they don't want to do anything to drive away any previous players..hence Founders Rewards.
i too am annoyed by their not answering anything this close to the launch date. i hope they say something on monday and do put a game launcher so we can download it early.
When will you finally stop trying to impress us all with boasting about your pirating prowess and intentions Killa.
Will it be when you realise players from the Asian servers come over to try the new server out and give you a very serious slapping whenever you try to go anywhere?
