"Finesse Acquisition Instruction"

Was  "Finesse Acquisition Instruction" always a part of the Founder rewards? I don't remember seeing it before.

If they are adding or considering adding things to the founder rewards, I think a couple investment bonds would go a long way.

What does a Finesse Acquisition Instruction DO?
  • wwarble1wwarble1 Posts: 20Member Beginner
"Instructions allowing the acquisition of battle techs used in land battle. Effective for 15 days." Makes tech grinding easier. Guess land battle people wanted it so they can force deck better. Like, it's good for people who like that, but something like investment bonds would help everyone.

Not making this a "land battle people stink" kinda thing. Just that the focus of rewards could be better if they were more generalized imo. I am thankful for everything they give us, and that item will help me, but it won't help like 90% of my company.

Maybe because people spend a very long time grinding to unlock all the techs, in fact a friend of mine finished getting all the master techs about a week before transfer was announced.

I had just three level one techs for my sword
  • patersmith66patersmith66 Posts: 503Member Intermediate
Those are a huge bonus for me.
Take it from a guy with 35 Power, 31 Quick, 33 Feint,
level 4 throwing techs, and level 3 traps
I must have done over 8000 land battles in the last few months of the game.

I am going to love it when a pirate melees me and I can force a deck battle.

As is the Battle King's Talisman.
I cannot find that in ivyro, anyone know what it does?
  • HeavyWaterHeavyWater Posts: 138Member Trainee
The talismans increase amount of finesse gained. The instructions increase the rate of tech acquisition, the name is a bit misleading.

On a side note, are there any other types of techs besides 'Battle'? And while we're on the subject, how did the word "Tech" make its way into the game mechanics of an 1400's to 1900's time period game? Just points to ponder. ;)

adding these into founders rewards tells me that they are gonna go heavy into restoring deck battle back into the game.   not a bad move in my opinion as deck gives traders who know land battle a fair chance against pirates.

    @Airhaun
    1. Tech = Technique, not technology
    2. Yes, Adventure (Trap) and Trade (Merchandise Knowledge)

@clemsonfan To my knowledge they were added because someone suggested they be added due to the severity of the tech grind.

i agree, but i also think they are gearing up for deck battle return too. which could be good... makes modified korean warship relevant again with assault deck battle skill.   also makes item plunder interesting as well depending on how it goes.

I don't think that restoring deck battle is going to help people withstand pirates, in fact vica versa.  Which explains why so many pirates are in favor of it.  I usually keep my best gear, including weapons, in the bank vault to avoid loss of durability, said loss being difficult to keep up with otherwise.

Here are two reason why restoration of non-consensual PvP deck battle favors pirates:
    1. For traders in fleets attacked by a pirate where none of them knows which end of a sword to hold, the pirate gets to defeat them all and plunder them all in one fell swoop.

    2. I do level my land battle skills, and consider myself somewhat accomplished, but If I am traveling alone, which is my usual pattern, and I keep my best weapon and my best gear equipped in case of pirate attack, and if I do get attacked by a pirate, perhaps the one who has bragged here on these forums about how he is the best land battler since Captain Blood, then I might lose the battle, and lose my precious weapon or my 100d gloves.  Such a risk might make the event more of a thrill and a positive experience for said pirate, but not for me.  What's good for the goose isn't necessarily what's good for the gander.  You see, the pirate's equipment sees its designated use fighting other players in a deck battle, my equipment sees its designated use fighting mummies in Abu Simbel.  No one has yet convinced me that I should play the game the way some other person wants me to just because he needs a thrill or some ducats.

    that leads to
    3.  If I were in a fleet with another player I knew to also be an acccomplished swordsperson, then perhaps we might decide to carry our weapons.  And that means wearing our best protective gear as well.  But more likely we wouldn't even bother, since the chances of a pirate attack are low and the odds of losing durability from travel are high.  And we have more important matters to attend to than tussling with a street corner juvenile delinquent, such as rebuilding UWO via investment in a nearby port, and the pirate is impeding that progress simply by engaging us.  Cheap thrills for the pirate don't translate to enjoyable game play for us.

@spiekums. I agree with you but every time I say the same thing you did I am called a cry baby and that if we don't like it then stay in safe waters like a coward

So after some research I see tons of land battle techs but just "Merchandise Knowledge" for Trade
    Land/Battle Techs
    Swords
    Sweeping Slash, Chain Slash, etc.
    Spear
    Spear Throw, Chain Thrust, etc.
    Gun
    Charge Shot, Chain Shot, etc.
    Chain Shot
    Merchandise Knowledge
    ?

Can someone expand on Merchandise Knowledge please?
  • aceman39aceman39 Posts: 943Member Intermediate
    Never had it
  • patersmith66patersmith66 Posts: 503Member Intermediate
Merchandise knowledge allows you to gain merchant techs, which only
help with other techs.  Broaden/Amplify/Swift makes the area of a trap tech that you
use have a larger AOE area of effect/Amplify the effect or/ Quicken the
speed (from about 20 seconds down,.. i got mine down to about 12-13 seconds)
at which a tech appears in your action boxes.
  • patersmith66patersmith66 Posts: 503Member Intermediate
Merchandise techs, you cannot use alone,
You must have or wait for another "maritime or adventure tech to appear"
then you can click on the merchandise tech/ie broaden, then click your (XXX) trap
which will  have a quicker/larger/aplified effect.

When you obtain 60 (IIRC) techs your tech spawn time is reduced to 5 seconds.

The finesse paper is used for learn the techs. With all the req done, it is basically 1 fight 1 tech learned.

As said above, merch knowledge techs modify effect but only for items used, explosive, medics and such. They are useful also for create various original tech, like total evasion.

    HeavyWater,
the actual formula for tech spawn is 20 seconds..
for every 5 active battle techs reduce the time by 1 second,
for every 10 active adventure or trade tech reduce by 1 second.
with even 60 active battle techs, the respawn time is 8 seconds.

If you are skilling techs like me, you will turn off all your adventure/traps and merchandise techs and also turn off any non (focused) techs. (this means if your working quick sword tech, you will turn off power sword and feint sword)..
I had about 60 techs, but usually had only 40 battle techs on at any one time, hence my 12 second tech spawn rate.
All weapons that I was not using and the finesse techs for the weapon i was trying to skill.
This means when I am working quick sword, i have all the quick sword techs active and all other weapons active (since dagger and gun techs cannot show up when I use a sword) I only get Quick sword techs in my action boxes.
