@Ace is right but the thing about uwo is if you want to completely avoid PVP you can with tribs or blue flag or you can negate loss due to plunder ie imp hold ,camo hold, WMB and storage skill.
As long as there are ways to circumvent Pvp if you want to then its fine.
The solution to PVP is NOT Removing PVP mechanics its balancing the game and giving options around PVP if players don't want it.
This is what makes use great you don't have to do pvp if you don't want to just takes common sense and preparation.
Ro-Sham-Bo is the technical name for me, means one is trumped by what precedes and it trumps the one the follows. Cannon/Melee/Deck is NOT that. It's just different playstyles. People that complained about deck, are those that didn't grind deck. People who don't grind melee get in turtles, but yet the turtle avoiding melee argument is no where as loud as the anti-deck arguement. It boils down to people not liking to be taking out of what they are comfortable with. You prefer cannons, u can't stand someone killing u in melee;you prefer melee, you can't stand turtles; you don't like deck you can't stand someone forcing it on u. You can't stand pvp, you wanna be protected at all times. You enjoy doing maritime and nothing else, you can't stand being forced into nanban. Everyone doesn't like doing stuff they don't like to do. That's a fact and it can't be changed. So lets try to be more tolerant towards each other. If my style affects urs then i'm sorry but as u are playing ur game, i would like to play mine.
man i just wanna get started 18th is too far away lol i would like to see any correspondence from papaya and more info released so i can make my plan of attack
I will at this point offer a bit of my experience from many years playing MMO type games with a personal proverb.
Try your best to make friends, since you will always be well-supplied with enemies.
This bit of wisdom, such as it is, is what all the pirates, no matter their skill, experience, and self-aggrandization, don't seem to get. Everyone seems to give at least lip service being proud of the sense of community UWO has. Time to start acting like it.
I agree with PieratThe. If to be realistic: Suppose you are a merchant or researcher in the Middle Ages. Do you have a pirate asking if you want to be attacked or not? Or in what style to fight with you? Flood you or board? Never. Gotcha - win or lose, but as it is already as lucky as you can. You do not want to be robbed - there are exits: speed, cunning, power, skills.
I blame WoW - That game made anyone of any age in any region of any demographic, feel like they were being catered to specifically... at the cost of any valid, meaningful PvP content that is. Now, everyone post-2004, thinks that's the design every single MMO should choose. They all now want complicated PvE features, but are more than willing to throw PvP under the bus and neuter it into oblivion.
Some of the biggest crying about db was from pirates who didn't like others being able to fight back and why turtle ships were the it ship for them for a while. So there will be pirates who like to db, and others who like to cannon/sea melee. so no it won't be pointless.
Im not much of a maritimer but, have never been a fan of grinding the melee skills. However, Gunfire comes easy through dungeons. The only other one worth grinding imo would Assault. I always preferred using items such as firebomb or loaded explosive in melee, or the withdrawal bell when needed. Plunder is only worth grinding only if items and equipment are plunderable.
Also, depending on the release method of "NC Ships", you may see a lot of players in the shipyard turtle ships early on. If Papaya starts off by releasing Mod Frigs and MAVs, then I assume most players will be in shipyard ships for a longgg time. I have a feeling there will be a lot of turtle battles early on assuming they wont be that "out matched" vs other SY ships and MFs/MAVs. The turtle ships will be very popular as players grind their cannon skills early on.
I am a big fan of Deck Battle potentially being restored. They should make it where White named players cannot be decked. Only Blue and Red/Orange can deck each other. They should make Deck Barrier skill 100% effective, for all cowards. Deck Barrier is also available on most ships as Original Skill. Deck Barrier should also give a small % boost to defense in deck, should the one with barrier initiate the decking. Id say 10% defense boost is reasonable
Also, Assault Deck skill should greatly increase the chance of initiating deck battle, as stated. Only in rare circumstances should it fail ie. Your in disorder/ on fire, totally outnumbered in sailors, etc. In addition, Assault Deck should give a +10% boost in attack on Deck Battle. Players should be able to stack Assault Deck and Deck Barrier on the same ship for +10% to both Offense and Defense on Deck.
The problem with pvp in this game is the blue names, not the red ones. In 'real' pvp games there are no blue names, if someone is red you can try (key word try) to kill them with no penalty or marker. If you fail you die. If you win, you are still white and did a good deed. This idea that killing a red now turns on some pvp key and you are a red target anywhere is noobish and protects the reds more then anything. How many people don't even want to fight back against a pirate attack because they might accidentally win and go blue?

he meleed me,but I hit DB,took 3 tries but we went into DB ,Since I did have decent armor & excal I beat him
as adventurers we do work on land battle, because many quests are in landing points ,plus there are the dungeons we explore
so,to say adventurers don't do land battle is wrong
by the time of the wipe my sp & sm were around r13 or 14.with boosts i could get to r20
