In Asheron's Call when it was launched, in order to PvP, you had to complete the hardest quest in the game and then you could only PvP against other players who had earned the right to PvP by completing that same quest.
No easy mass killings of lower level toons.
Pvping in Asheron's Call was an elite status with bragging rights back then.
There's no bragging rights for someone racking up kill count by preying on lower level toons and much weaker ships.
Here is an idea all you 'but you can buy a blue flag' whiners. Why not set it up so you have to buy a license to pirate. You can buy it from the cash shop and you can pirate for 24hrs. Oh yea, cause most of you wont pull a dime out of your own pockets to do so.
Make the world of UWO as real as possible with public hanging executions for pirates when they are caught and defeated in battle. Execute them at the gallows and let the player start a new toon. That would be about as realistic as the real world of pirating was in real life.
Just leave there dead toon hanging on the gallows for a few days with the warning sign.
Player Killer toons are hugely coddled in most games by developers in the way the game justice system treats the PKer. Slaps on the wrist compared to what they plundered and looted from their prey.
Ultima Online started this whole MMORPG genre 20 years ago and when they were the only MMO PvP ran amuch with mass murdering of low level toons and crafters anywhere outside of guard protection. Inside towns with guard protection thieves robbed you blind using all sorts of game exploits. The game owners had no worries until competitive game named Everquest came along with PvE protection. A mass exodus soon followed and Ultima Online lost a very large portion of their player base.
One of the UO developers said they figured it was losing 8 good PvE players for each PvPer they coddled.
Then Asheron's Call launched and another mass exodus from UO took place. Asheron's Call made it a high prestige to be a PvPer by you having to complete the hardest quest in the game and even then you could only PvP against other players who had completed that same quest. It gave you huge bragging rights.
Ultima Online came up with a solution though and created a mirrored shard called Felucia which was the exact same thing as the regular world except now the regular world was a PvE only area and Felucia was the badlands which was all PvP except in cities with guard protection. The PvP mirrored shard offered much higher rewards though for everything you did there so it was an incentive to take a chance in going there.
Ultima Online is still going to this day with lots of players even though it is a 2D top down view only game with a very old game engine. They filled the game with customizable housing and tons of legendary, rare, antique, festival, etc items that could be displayed in the players houses too. Those two things have kept players playing that game and paying monthly subscriptions all these years.
Want UWO to continue then maybe they should take a lesson from Ultima Online on creating longevity for this game.
"Wolves are extremely opportunistic carnivores, and they will not miss a chance at a meal. Living in some of the most unforgiving terrain on the planet, they are sometimes forced to eat sick or injured members of the pack, and any wolf that has died is generally fair game. Wolves caught in snare traps must be very quickly attended to by hunters or they will be torn apart by other wolves. When two packs come into contact, very often they will engage in a fatal battle, with the alpha males most often being killed. Sometimes they are even eaten by their own offspring."
".....preferred meal is large ungulates (such as deer, moose, and elk). Unlike bears or big cats, wolves do not have an anatomical weapon capable of quickly dispatching such large animals. They kill by attrition, the entire pack swarming and slashing at the haunches and perineum, ripping away at the legs and the gut, until their victim collapses from exhaustion. They begin eating immediately, even though the prey is often still alive for quite some time."
Your argument has a big flaw. Because as the game progresses, in the future WITH PvP, some elements of the PvP will change just because the game progresses (whatever the improvement is) will mess and change PvP if PvP still exists.
The only TRUE way to get rid of "messing with PvP" by anyone is to NOT have PvP, you can't mess with something that doesn't exist...
I'm not saying I'm disagreeing with you, I'm just pointing out your argument flaw....
1 you will lose FAR MORE to ncp's than you will to player pirates.
2 UWO has a pvp element ot he game , and organised pvp events , eg esf , Bc
3 you are warned when you enter hostile waters that you may be attacked by other players.
dont like it , then stay in safe waters, buy blue flags, get smart and use your brains to bypass pirates, use private status, search often , dont use predictable routes
@Roiber you know good and well i would have nanbann'd for several days in order to purchase several days of plunder consumables to have been able to priate. I had no problem at all supporting myself with nanban :D So i would have at least been paying to pirate :D
@crazy u should really read up on the game that u play. Pay special attention to what is called "early release" it was available on steam in NA. i then had to migrate over to netmarble which is where most of the players started, i do even think gpotato mite have had the "early release" of uwo i'm not sure cause i played it on steam. :D
The toon that most of ya'll know PieRat_The was my alt. I had a high level main LONG before i decided to become a pirate. And that main was actually my restart char cause i was noob and didn't like my old one and started over. didn't know u can just fix those things as u go. :D and what's sad is my younger brother player about 2 months before i did and showed me the game.
tbh i wouldent mind a pve only server kinda like naval action has but i wouldent want item plunder back if they dident add one deckbattle i wouldent mind as the gear i once had i could beat most in duels so id think i could defend myself properly
I actually like the "license to pirate" idea, when you buy one, you can plunder all you want. This way, then the traders will and can go buy blue flags. Cash for the server, all win.
To be fair as a trader who did ban ban for months upon months and no pvp realm would be stupid. You know a sure way to raise nanban goods price? Turn EA and SEA lawless. There becomes more demand then supply thus making you more money. God kids these days need to think before speaking. I’m not that old though only 21. Hope the game comes up all good. See you guys there. Logash of Dragon Reign
Make Uncharted Waters Online more realistic for pirates. When caught and defeated in battle give them a swift hanging in public squares and perma death for the toon.
Think of the bragging rights pirates will have then by pirating and staying alive.
@ Pie, was not directed at you at all; Its the something for nothing crowd that annoys me...
You and I have always gotten along fine. I know you always carried your own weight, helped keep the lights on, and carried others for years as well. I do not even remotely group you with the crowd that was directed at.
Tbh, I can understand why pvp'ers want to pvp, but that being said. A no pvp-server might actually be what this game needs for me to bother sinking money into it. No way I'd spend real cash on anything in a game where other players can purposely hunt you down and steal your trade goods, saving my cash for my pve games.

"Fact: Cannibalism is common amongst wolves."
"Wolves are extremely opportunistic carnivores, and they will not miss a chance at a meal. Late in the game, they won't care the plunder think they just want infamy.
