Ok guys,
Nation limits
Be careful on which nation you choose to start with....there are production limits, or purchase limits, depending on your nation start.....English nation is the only nation that can buy Flannel....French is only nation that can get Brewery secrets 2 book...Flannel can be sewn for other nations, and French players can sell and obtain multiple copies of said book.
Starting school
New or not, if you are playing UWO I wish to offer my general tips and thoughts for getting started...
First, if you start as Adventure(start and complete Adventure Beg and Intermediate schools) you can turn around and get well established for any skills you need...First off, starting as adventurer you get Sail Handling which is one of those limited availability skills, second, you get job cards from the intermediate adventure class that will set you up for Maritime skills, and Merchant skills.
Strongly advise you get fishing and Storage ASAP as both skills help with preventing strong losses with pirates, sometimes(Fishing fills your hold with fish and there is a chance that the player pirates might get your fish and not your better goods) also, Fishing at higher levels allows you to get Tuna for Tuna Olive Steaks and massive amounts of Fish(cargo item) for Salted fish with nuts....decent fat/vig food.
Production skills
for production skills, try to get skills that are on jobs together(handy and Casting for example.) and get the trading skills to support them, such as mineral and wares trading(R3 Handy makes wood sculptures from 1 lumber..R5 handy allows Bronze sculptures and Bronze is made by R7 casting) Trading skills allow more of a type of resource to be bought per go..
To level the trading skills like Mineral Trading and Wares trading, buy 20* rank of skill....R1 is 20 units, R2 is 40 units, and so on.
Shipbuilding
Don't start shipbuilding for a while...It is a money pit till you get at least R9 with the Teak Trading Sambuk(cost about 800k sell for up to 2.5M)....As players get tougher, so too do the ship requirements and the money pit rank....Eventually R16+ is when the real money comes in....but you can expect to spend about 400M to reach rank 16.
Full Nation Sb are the most powerful players for SB in game because they can build EVERY ship, even invest only free styles but completing FNSB is a dangerous and costly venture...you have to defect to every nation and invest in all their territories and main cities
