any games like uwo

ive played uwo for almost 2 years now( 1670 hours), what i liked about this game was the exploration and trading not the battle. ofcourse later i found battle a but interesting but so interesting to really grind it. so any games like this that mainly focus on exploration and trading and if possibly historical correct or close enough. the reason i leave this game(might come back with big changes) is mainly because of the wipe but also that pirates can now plunder your items, you can tell its part of the game etc but its not the part i liked about it i just liked to trade and fleet with people not getting attacked by non NPC pirates

There is a mobile version of sailing game which is similar to UWO. I suspect it is a copycat of UWO, but done in a way that it is not abuseable by multi because it does not allow player 2 player trade, instead it has a global auction market, and GMs there constantly check for overpriced trades (suspicious money laundering activity). Quite good actually.

EVE online which is a space theme equivalent of UWO (subscription to play) It is really not pay 2 win, because ships there could be totally destroyed and you would start again. So pay won't get you a permanent advantage.

StarTrek which is another space theme equivalent, but very much pay 2 win, because the only way to kill someone is via a burst attack like the critical shot here, except you do not need to make critical hit, rather you burst damage with P2W weapons.

Well since its so unique ill give this another try, btw are those tributes against pvp buy able from npc's so that i do not have to get those mats to make them after grinding a skill.

Star Trek online isn't that p2w and there are no weapons in their store.  You can't get the coolest ships without buying them for real cash but you can farm dillithium and sell to other players for their 'astros' and buy the ships.  That game is less pay to win then this one is in some ways.

But there are no real ftp games ....where would the money be.  If people who pay got no advantage over people who didn't nobody would pay.  That's why the people cheering the reset so everyone was equal were so naive,  the people who spend would always pull ahead.  Even those paying ducats for the p2w items from the payers are helping the payers pull ahead with unearned ducats.  The wipe won't fix that ...it might fix other things but not that.

    Right on @Idsadar

UWO is totally unique. So come back and play @revolver275 :-)

I tried Voyage Century which is similar - but it's no way as good as UWO. Plus it shows why a server wipe can benefit a game cos VC is an exclusive wasteland.

But I share your misgivings about plunder.

Actually revolver, there are games "similar" to uwo but nothing quite like it. You can of course get an emulator and play New Horizons or if you know or want to learn Japanese, Chinese, or Korean there is probably a way to get onto their servers.

Like lefox said there is Voyage Century, but for me the quest text was so badly translated I gave up, and I have seen some real...interesting translations in uwo. I tried Pirates of the Burning Seas, but the sever is pretty dead I saw 1 other dude the whole week I was on. You will need cash shop items almost from the start.

I eventually decided that as long as you play an mmo, you take the risk of getting screwed like this, especially a niche one like this one with relatively low server pop. I was able to get the 2004 Pirates! for 2 bucks off GOG. There are also games like Port Royale 2 & 3, those are more relaxed trading with less battle, Sea Dogs with the Gentlemen of Fortune mod, which I just started with and don't feel comfortable judging yet, and Blood and Gold: Carribean. This one is harder and more battle focused, kinda broken really, but I've been pulled in my the quest and battle system. It could stand to have some balancing though.

What really made me keep coming back to play uwo were my mates tho and we've all quit. We can hope for a distant day and a fan run private server. So my advice get some nice single player sailing games or get on an Asian server that's far less likely to be wiped.

EVE Online is ftp now, with alpha accounts with limits on what ships, skills, etc. that alpha (free) accounts can have/use while alpha, while omega accounts (subscription-style 30-day omega passes or whatever they called it, somewhat not unlike the UWO cash shop treasure chests full of boosts and stuff) are full-featured, probably with faster skill training speed than free (alpha) accounts, which can be upgraded to omega accounts at any time provided they pay whatever cash shop prices for 30-day(?) omega passes or whatever they call such.

I think currently pirates of the burning sea could be your best option.  I played bounty bay/ voyage century before uwo and (imo) was a better game but became p2w so i moved here, but this looks like it's going to have a big push to the cash shop so could be a possibility again.  Naval action could be the game for u if/when it gets released(not sure how far away that is).  You have more options if u go sci-fi(eve, elite etc.) or even fantasy.

Personally I think I'll be moving to single player games for my 'messing about with boats' fix.

Hmm im gonna stick to uwo then, only game that seems like its fun and historical correct. And if i move to a other game ill have to also start over so not much gain.

    Voyage Century Online

It reached at peak ,so I doubt you'd want to play because you won't able to join guild no matter what and start with lv10 ship O_o. It's sort of UWO and Runescape combo. Most players are focus on land battle aka siege or Golden Tower.

    Archeage

It's rpg but you can build ships and fight pirates.

    Seafighting and Windward

I don't know much about them ,but some sites said they're compare to UWO.

I'm going out on a limb here,so you can just stop reading if you're not interested. If you like the sense of adventure and exploration of the game and its mechanics - how they are all intertwined with each other. If you enjoy reoleplaying, IE, playing your part in the world, even if you weren't a hard core "role player"... than I might suggest a game you'd at least find interesting.

It has the same sense of exploration and learning, but takes place on a smaller level and within the game's mechanics vs. a huge world.

It does have a lot of similarities in some ways: It's a sandbox. You can craft. Everything and anything is interactive. There is PvP but usually enforced rules, not random ganking. You can take on jobs and perform the actual job you have. It's simple in terms of graphics, but complex behind the scenes... similar to UWO. It's also a free project

    What's the game?

    Space Station 13 - https://spacestation13.com/

It's a bit of a beast to learn and figure out, but therein lies the reward of playing it :)

Both Eldevin and Therian Saga are games with crafting, combat and quests. Both are f2p with no limits, if you want. Cash boosts and speeds up performance, and gives vanity items, but doesn't give special items. Eldevin has better quests, while Therian Saga has more involved crafting.
