Where to get socket gems?

Been a couple of years since I last played and I remember that Akris used to drop the socket gems. I spent over 2 hours today looking for Akris to farm gems from but it looks like they dont drop them anymore? Where do you get gems from now apart from buying them from other players? I need to add sockets to my weapons but without the junk gems I'm finding it really hard.
