Why is Seville the marketplace on our server?

So I'm thinking of making a youtube video about Why Seville is the market city of our server and maybe not Lisbon or London or Amsterdam or even Marsellie or maybe Paris.

Now I know what many are thinking "Cause Seville just is!" but lets face it, that won't make a very intresting video lol. What I want to know is the reasons behind it, was it something a host did in the past to make it marketplace, is it travel connections or whats able to be made there? Anything is useful but please just don't comment with "It just is" tell me the reasons why you think it is and not Lisbon etc.

When and if I do make this video would you also come on the video to explain it in greater lengths? If so let me know. Then we can arrange time and date to do that.

Thanks again for your help guys and gals.

Several reasons why Seville being the No.1 choice of trade hub:

    1. Seville is one of the two closest capital ports to spice route (the other being Lisbon).

    2. Seville is closer to Barcelona than Lisbon is, at least in the past making it easier to make cannons than Lisbon.

    3. Close to Faru, where farm equipment can be purchased, good for alt farming (talking about lots of alts producing daily gains from private their farms)

    4. Portugal has one less territorial port than Spain, making some people choose Spain over Lisbon.

    5. Resellers like Seville because there are more people there.

    6. People like Seville because the city is where resellers shout WTB / WTS, making it easier for others to buy and sell (but of course resellers taking away the lion share of the profit).

because as British i need 15 more minutes to get to my own territory... that said if we do live enough to see order of the prince Sagress will take that spot since it has no taxes for any nation unlike seville which only offers good prices to spaniards.

Well, obviously the location is an important factor. It won't explain why it's not Lisbon, but the fact that Seville and Lisbon are pretty much being passed by everyone leaving or coming back to Europe makes it a much more convenient location for trading than Marseilles, Venice, London or Amsterdam

It's just the closest Capital when you return from Spice/Nanban and it's midway of all capitals. Also, the music is just good.

I did hear once that Lisbon is the trader capital on one or all of the Asian servers, don't know if that true but I remember several people mention this on OGP either ingame or on forums

Lisbon used to be the central hub of Gama at the first few months of GAMA server until Netmarble banned most Portuguese players because they leveled too quickly (e.g. lvl 30 in a week without the powerleveling resource like this relaunch). Netmarble believed the only way to level so quickly was through hacks. Then Lisbon went quiet...

Since then Seville was the central hub.

I guess all of the reasons are given in the post above.

Although this doesn't entirely explain how Seville became in it's "capital" position overtime. It must have had a sort of an evolution, well actually it did. How did all these facts melt together in the past? I'll try to tell you in the short version as for my experiences...

I remember Sevile became the main capital of UWO soon after the game was released. People used to play together more than they do today. Back then many fleets heading for Asia, Caribs, etc. (combined players from different nationalities) assembled in Seville since it was the most ideal location to "take off". Either if u came from the high North or out deep of the Mediterranean, you just had to pass Seville (and Lisbon). So it was Obvious that area would become the heart of the game.
Also when after a long journey you returned to Europe, often players had to log off because it meant the end of the day or dinner time for them (in RL). So before setting sail to their hometown or final destination. They popped up a shop while going afk. Those shops soon became popular by any who couldn't yet afford a trip to those far away lands or who did not had the time at that moment.

The concrete choose for Seville and not Lisbon, I think it is because of the closer access to the Mediterranean. That Gibraltar street was like a highway for anyone going to school or craft whatever was needed...

So that was the short version of the story as for my expieriance.

    Hi guys.
my ign is bigfattrader on Garuda.

since we don’t have many open beta players left,
i think i need to explain on the issue.

As I started on first week of UWO.
Top runners were experienced players from other server.
And they liked to have their market on seville and lot of them were portugal.

So Lisbon was the central market for 2 to3 weeks
Spain companies like armada and garuda didn’t want to
shift the power of market goes to Lisbon rather than Seville. So some spainards decided that they would start open bazaar at seville instead of Lisbon.

First few weeks it was not that successful but more people agreed that we need the market in seville in order to get more comfortable and population.

Also some of the experienced players went back to their server because it was not their mother tougue and so much was left out at their server compare to what was in global server.

After a month and spain - england war has began for the western africa and gold trade. since most of the cannon mats are in barcelona in europe. Seville was where these cannon sellers were. After the war, which was ended by opening of the carribean as well as few EIB on west africa.

Seville become the market due to the cash flow of the market with the casters and traders with gold in saint -georges

Sorry about all the typos since i’m
    writing this with my phone.

    bon voyage

Seville is not only ill-located but also have ill-located bank and shipyard. They should be near port and be adjacent to each other. I always feel frustrated when I forget to bring money or shipwirght saw.

When I started this game I was in England and I started auctions there. I was immediately hit with shut ups,  be quiet,  take that Seville,  we don't like that here blah blah. So I left England set out for Seville and there in Seville they LOVED auctions and that's where it was home to.

So although I missed the origins off Seville I can only speak from my experience and that is this every capital in UWO has it's own personality ,traditions and Customs. London likes quiet sereness "order". So like all things there is always an opposite to everything if london is quiet then Seville has to be loud and chaotic yin and yang.

So the reason imo is towns are entities in itself and the players subconsciously work to preserve this and gravitate to the town most "fitting" of their personality. Here are MY observations on the towns and their personality and Traditions. ..

London:  quiet , uppety, maritime centric, likes order, conformity, looks down on drama but causes it too just not in london lol, known to get really nasty with you if you go against them  and this trend. Has a decent player market as it has decent traffic but DONT go overboard with shouts. Due to a "certain" player and his company this nation has  a bad reputation and other nations fight against them or have bad blood with them...just facts. Players who want decent player interaction but not rampant price gouging and good maritime gravitate here. Good for beginners imo not saying experts aren't here in abundance however

Amsterdam:  silent giant, trader investor centric, expert players that stay to themselves mostly. Some of the best players are here. If you're loud here you will just be ignored. ..not a good place for player selling not enough traffic. Near its rival London so you will be fighting for ports often or you can pal up with them. If you play solo this town for you imo.

Lisbon:  is centrally located good spot for anything but in my observation this town is located right next to Seville and this town seeks to differentiate itself from them so you won't find hardly any players,  bazaars or shouts or fighting. Due to this you can find REALLY  good deals in company shop as they tend not to want to take advantage of you financially its not really them...not good for player market. Players who like quiet but want the exciting life right next door to Seville gravitate here

Seville:  Seville is known for being The premier money greed town its all about sell sell sell buy buy buy.  This city has the most population and the people have the mindset of get rich at any costs. Lots of reselling occurs here so immediately people from other nations do not like Sevillians. Expert players are here but it is VERY LOUD with shouts and people and aide bazaars.  I hold auctions here due to heavy traffic. This town is filled with arguments and fights in and outside of town reminds me of NY hence why this is where I feel most comfortable I thrive in chaos lol.  Prices are higher here but you can sell for higher too. Seville has lots of maritime too we are also rivals of London.  Players who like fast life and more player interaction gravitate here everything happens here if you can deal with the chaos.

Marseilles:   Same as Lisbon imo just people are a more vocal.  Traffic is ok due to lourve  and the land Canal to Calais but not enough to be a player market prices are good in company shop. These players tend to shun money possibly due to them being near Seville...to each his own.

Venice: Ghost town hardly any players come here completely secluded and quiet. Players who want a challenge go here. Nobody goes here except to make red panel ships, mtt farming or tuna in salary. Terrible to sell here people who like permanent private status like this town but some other more vocal too.  Due to the terrible headwinds people hate going here so don't expect player interaction.

Hope that answers your question we gravitate to the town most attuned to our personality imo. Every player needs a home most people just find Seville to be that based on their personality.

Seville was picked for trade hothub because it has friendly layout, Shrimp Marinades, short trip to bank for farm and storage. London is 2nd largest for busiest ports.

For some reasons, Japanese and Korean servers prefer Lisbon over Seville.

Not just Seville, Athens and Lisbon are quite popular destination for VCO.

On most UWO servers Lisbon IS the main hub. However, as Lyonesse says, Seville has the better layout. Course that's not a big deal now that we can teleport to ports to get around, but in the early days the layout was preferred and after the wipe people just migrated back to Seville instead of changing to Lisbon because it's what people were used to. Personally I would prefer Lisbon but it is what it is.

Mars/Paris/Calais is actually the most centrally located. But, at launch Paris wasn't in the game.

Seville and Portugal kind of battled for early supremacy for location. The main 2 reasons being, at the time, they were the best located, but they also had a LOT of Chinese gold farmers that sold their spice (and gold) in those cities. Because of this, more and more people wanted to be a part of those nations. It was a snowball effect. Most people wont admit this, but most are sheep and want to be around a lot of people all the time. Overtime, more people chose Spain than Portugal.

The reason why Seville is still the hub over a more centrally, and fairly located Paris Hub is simple, old habits die hard.
