Resistance vs. Tolerance

General
Can someone explain the difference between DMG Resistance and DMG tolerance?

With Semper Idem, this gives 40% Monster DMG Resistance. Does this mean that if the damage of the monster is 1,000, I will only get hit with 600? Or, does this mean I have 40% chance to resist or evade the monster's attack?

Please explain more. Thanks in advance.

    well the Semper Idem Is DK Square item which reduce Monster Resistance , I know In the npc it say monster tolerance increase but the real thing on item it decrease the Monster tolerance

    any DK Square items Decrease Monster Resistance  including Semper Idem , dk square set , dk square timed wep , dk sqare necklaces

    Thank you for the response. When you say that it is a DK item, does this mean it will only work on DK square, or this it work with normal monster as well? 

    It did not really answer my question about the difference between resistance and tolerance though, but thank you for answering.

    oh well any dk square item only work on dk square but it will make you weak when you killing monsters 
    and if you wear dk square items out of dk square like normal maps it only effect your attack any option on item typed by it (DK) It mean only work on dk map like dk square or crespo abyss or mitera but it work on pvp not pve

    I see. That makes sense. But it still did not answer my main concern, which is the difference between resistance and tolerance. Or is there really a difference?

    there is 3 things (ddr) = Damage Decrease Rate it decrease the dmg you take by percent depend on your stats and items all Damage from monsters or players are reduced by that percent
     
    pve tolerance = damage you take from monsters decreases by a percent max stat of it is 75% that percent is good when you have make you easy solo hard dungeons 

    pvp tolerance = damage you take from players in pk or dk square decreases by a percent more you get from that pvp tolerance less damage you take from players
