Aide level cap?

Yesterday I tried to use the Aide Voyage Record (Trade) (+30000 Trade experience for the aide), and got a message that because of the level cap a lot of exp would be lost.  That particular aide is at level 12 merchant, so it's not like the item is going to boost them over level 60 or something.

Does anyone know what's going on?  I can't find documentation anywhere on a level cap for aides, so I'm hoping someone here knows.

    If the 30k boost takes your aide up a level, you only get the exp to reach the new level. You don't get the remainder at the new level - it's wasted. So only use the boost if there is more than 30k to reach the new level.

    Neither a Player nor an Aide can get more than 3 levels at once. Thus, the item warns you that some of the 30k exp will go to waste because the Aide would get more than 3 levels by using that AVR but can`t.
