    @CaptainRem

sorry... i never thought you guys don't know what blue flags is. my bad

BLUE FLAGS - they can be used to avoid piracy
           - you cannot attacked and be attacked unless you cancel
                           - durations 30mins, 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days

your being spammed by pirates arguements solved by blue flag.

is there a why a pirate can buy something to cancel a blue flag status? NONE!.

Unless you advocating to make blue flag free for all to be used or suffinetly cheap so everyone can get hold of them whit ingame like PvE tribs, I dont see much point in you keep crying ppls must use blue flags, since not all can affort so and since you cant do pve naval battles when having them on putting a limit on for those there still want PvE but not PvP.

Blue flags can easily and cheaply be bought in-game with ducats. Plenty of people sell them all day.

I agree that many people are gaining the ranks in skills before turning red/orange. It is hard to grind skills once your red. It is also expensive paying to get into towns.

I know a lot of the pirates and I must say that I don't believe most would farm a white player.
BHs are the worst for farming reds from what I have witnessed.

I personally try to handle piracy with some class and always offer to fleet a victims and rescue their crew and tow em to a port. I often return their items and money. For low levels I even give them more money back than I took sometimes.

There is really no way a pirate can farm a white unless the white allows it. They can shipwreck if needed. But the green flag lasts 5 minutes giving them enough time to get to port, safe waters, or sneak off.

There are 2 exploitable loopholes in PvP afaik:

    1) Fleet of 5 red/orange names with 1 low level sail up to target,  low level breaks fleet, attacks, is defeated, target is now blue name and can be farmed

    2) Fleet of 5, 4 orange/red name, 1 blue name attacks white name(s). Blue name heals reds/oranges and can't be attacked by white names.

This is, again, flawed mechanics, and needs to be addressed.

Yeah those would be some dirty tricks. I hope they are not used.

There was one time I heard about noobs asking for help in safe waters. Then they will have a pirate alt and the noob would attack the pirate in safe waters and then the pirate  would fight back and win. I hope that tactic don't find it's way to this server

I accept the risk of going into PVP, and after being defeated, I accept the lumps and go about my business. It is actually part of the excitement of the game. If you took away the cooldown timer in a game where the majority of the game is PVP, I would be limited to Europe and the Mediterranean. Not to mention it would no longer be exciting, but irritating. What kind of game is that? I'm not going to limit my game play to 10% of the game just because you want to harass other players.

Blue flags should be a choice, not a requirement for entering PVP areas. If I bought a blue flag a day, that would come out to what., $45 a month? For that kind of money, I can play something else. The 'server wipe' ordeal already made me reluctant to come back but I did anyway. Potato was still selling goodies on the market up until the day the server closed. Taking away the cool down timer would be the final nail in the coffin not only for me, but I imagine for many other players as well. Many players have already abandoned ship because of the server wipe, are you trying to kill the game further?

Very few games with PVP that I've played allow for abusive mechanics like the ones you are trying to push for. Even full blown PVP-centered games have safe zones so you can't camp spawn points.

What would you accomplish by taking away the cooldown timer? If I knew I was about to be repeatedly farmed, I would just pull the plug. You would probably camp my DC point, but I would know this, and may not be inclined to log in for a few weeks, if at all. You could force the player to stay logged in, but good luck with that. How are you going to force someone to stay logged in to be farmed, especially if they have somewhere else to be, or have to get up for work in the morning?

There is no positive benefit to taking away the cooldown timer. Arguing otherwise is self serving and myopic.

Nothing wrong with a cool down timer but 24hrs is a bit excessive in my opinion. 1hr or 4 hrs would be better I think, but I am a pirate so I am biased.

I agree with @Goatts we should avoid 'abusive game mechanics'.

It's nothing to do with blue flags or whatever. For a healthy game environment, it is best to avoid the possibility of one player being harassed by another. Disconnecting in order to escape should not have to be an option.

The real issue is how we treat each other. Once a player has been pirated - leave him in peace. You can't pirate him for another day. You both get on with playing you game. No one should be unhappy or feel harassed.
  • CulvernCulvern Posts: 646Member Intermediate
I wish that was the case. Poor pirates get harassed nonstop after they do their job.
The number of insults, threats, and name calling a pirate receives after a plunder can go on for days and even weeks sometimes, and that was during OGP days without item plunder.

Merchants/adventurers also need to act with some class after a pirate attack. That is if you want the pirate to act civil as well.

I have pirated people who have been gracious in their responses. And I usually return their items, cargo, sometimes the cash. Then tow them to a port or their destination.
But if they spout off........they are on their own.

I never see a need to be rude or a jerk to someone after an attack. The attack is bad enough as it is.

I always try to be gracious. Now all don't act like that cause they get upset and sometimes they lose a item that might have meant a lot to them they worked hard to get and sometimes can't be gained again and they act like a fool. if a pirate is nice to me after the attack I am nice back......Now Culvern you have to admit sometimes some pirates can be jerks. Now I am not saying you are just saying some can be
  • CulvernCulvern Posts: 646Member Intermediate
I agree. Many are/have been jerks.
I was just pointing out that it can go both ways.
To be honest some of the worst behavior I have seen is from BHs. Again not all by any means but some.

You can design fantasy games, which is taking-the-game-out-of-reality. But you just can't take-reality-out-of-the-game. People have 'real world' emotions while they play-out their fantasies.

I guess that's why it's so hard to design a game which runs PvP alongside other activities. But you see it in everything; it's in all the choices people make about what to do in-game. And it kind of erupts in some of the postings you see on the forum.

I play a lot of RPGs and I always make an effort to be someone else in my toons. But my toons always end up being some part of me.

A few years ago I played Pirates:Tides of Fortune for a while. A big part of that game is raiding and farming other players. I gave it up 'cos it was just too stressful for an easy-going person like me.

The players who really amaze me are the ones like CPC - real traders. I could never play that role either.

I do 90% trader 5% adventurer and 5% maritime, but the way she just does auctions is not for me.  I like doing my spice runs and nanban runs and then grinding my sewing skill and just having a nice relaxing sail across the seas and talk with my comp members
