This is a thread to discuss how the forum works, runs, etc. It's not a suggestion thread per se, which is why it's in GD, but it would be nice if this thread was looked over by the company for quality purposes.

There are a few main points I wish to bring up. Anything about the forums can be discussed here, but I do wish for input on these first:


1. Forum Categories

Announcements, General Discussion, Bug Report, Suggestions, Captain's Logbook, Trade Market, Job, and Events.

Are these lacking? Should we have more categories, or different ones altogether? What about off-topic, BR and S merged into Feedback, CL and Job into Guides, etc? Do you want them to remain as they are; if not, what categories would you suggest?


2. Moderator Presence

Moderators never reply on the forums. For the most part, it seems that only GMs have moderator privilege, and therefore there's a lack of dedicated forum moderators. Should the company have hired moderators for this, or player volunteers? Should this position require game experience, or a questionnaire to determine capability as a forum mod? Should they have training period before being given full power, or be given full control right away; if the former, how should their progress be tracked and graded?


3. Post Approval System

This irks many players. Even after the first posts are approved, further posts seem to require approval. Despite waiting over a week at times for one's posts to be approved, they end up approved in batches that allow spam threads to get through - which defeats the purpose.

Should this system be removed? If not, should there be an individual tasked solely with handling the post approval multiple times a day, if not all day?

An additional issue is the idea that this system stops spam, which as I stated above is not the case. Yet, this is the reason for the lack of a Report button. Should we be able to report posts/threads/profiles?

    1. I don't think any more catagories are needed, the ones we have are kinda under used as it is.

    2. Maybe Papaya needs to recruit CAs into forum mod position like OGP, I'm not suggesting they take over the job and approve posts etc, but at least allow them to remove the spam topics and repeated topics just because a player/person refreshes or posts clearly in the wrong forum. Again I'm not meaning approve or ban users, just simply cleaning up the forums from time to time.

    3. the batches they approve is stupid and you are right it the system is not fit for purpose. However, I am not privy to know what kind of format these batches come up, it could be that they just need to script some sort of preview post within the list so that they can go through the list like emails and just simply stop and take out a bad post and carry on. Again as much as CAs do their jobs, I do not think they should get involved in approving or banning posters.
