firefox not working because of game guard

So today after a game guard update we are not able to use firefox as it seems to stop it from working.

I suggest everyone affected by this issue makes a ticket about this as I think it is out of order that a games anti cheat starts blocking browsers.

Whats next? Game guard blocks every other programe running?

Did a quick web search and this isn't a new issue.  Why it cropped now in UWO is interesting though.  Still reading old posts about the issue but I haven't found a solution indicated yet.

Edge browser also works. IE has been deprecated in Win 10.

I've got Win 10, Chrome and experience only occasional DCs.

Back under OGP I once experienced problems, but found it was caused by a clash with another gaming-related program running in the background. Can't remember the name of it now - but once deleted everything was good.

So it's possible game guard is clashing with something else you have running.

Pale Moon browser seems to work fine with the game. It's free, and works with the majority (maybe all?) Firefox addons.

I had an issue like this the other day. I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. It seems to work good so far. It was probably a conflict with an add on or extension that I had.

UPDATE: Well it worked for awhile, but then Firefox stopped responding earlier as soon as I open up UWO, then seems to work again when I close it.

I've sent a ticket. I hope this gets fixed very soon, because I refuse to use any browser other than Firefox. And if this doesn't get fixed, I'may have to stop playing UWO altogether.

That is a very strange reason to quit UWO.

For once i think Papaya is innocent on this cause. You need to use a legitimate browser with legitimate addin approved by game-guard. Who knows that your firefox may be infected by a keylogger and your financial information is being stolen, and yet gameguard did you a favour by raising alarms?

I am also a Firefox user and affected by this problem. Firefox works fine but once i have started uwo it doesnt load properly and no websites can be accessed. This problem started only a few days ago.
This is very inconvenient as UWO is a game where you often need to check reference on websites or you want to use discord or make entries on this forum or co website.
I guess I am not the only player feeling crippled if no access to ivyro or UWO wiki while playing.
I hope that this is going to be fixed soon.

You can start using Edge. It is not that bad.

I tried Edge, Firefox, IE (which is still in windows 10 btw), Opera and many other browsers to find one that is not having issues when game guard and UWO are open. None of them worked 100% properly. I even went to the WIki pages and got all sorts of trojan errors from my antivirus software. So I did some checking into the issues. Every single virus warning I got, showed up within a browser folder and within that file, it says game guard. So the issue is not with the game or your browsers. The issues are with game guard.

Now, there is a topic on the MMORPG forums about game guard

    What that says, is clear....

nProtect Gameguard is an anti-cheat root toolkit developed by INCA Internet. GameGuard hides the game application process, monitors the entire memory range, terminates applications defined by the game vendor and INCA Internet to be cheats (QIP for example), blocks certain calls to Direct X functions and Windows APIs, keylogs your keyboard input, and auto-updates itself to change as new possible threats surface. It's known to cause pc instability which includes common BSoDs, deletion of harmless files and drivers, such as one for gaming keyboards/mice(example: Logitech G510 and G710+), anti-virus and firewall programs.

Since GameGuard essentially works like a rootkit, players may experience unintended and potentially unwanted side effects. Since the game's process cannot be stopped from the task manager, if the protected game has an infinite loop or hangs in any way, it is effectively impossible to close without logging out or restarting the computer. This is even more frustrating since GameGuard checks if it is already running on the game's launch and does not permit the player to start a new instance in such cases.

nProtect GameGuard is not like other anticheat programs out there. If you decide to remove the game, Gameguard will stay in your system as there is no uninstall feature. Some of the .dlls will be removed with the game but some will be hidden in your system. You have to manually uninstall them which includes editing the registry. Being there is in fact .exe files left in your system it can run when INCA decides to and it can still scan your system memory and keystrokes. For those that argue that the Gameguard rootkit can't run without the game running or being in their pc, this is false.

    Read more at http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/403448/nprotect-gameguard-is-bad-news-list-of-games-its-on-updated-03-03-16#BLVoGFzb8pq6wA15.99

So, Gameguard is a sort of virus in of itself. It can not be removed completely, I runs a keylogger, it works as a rootkit, and it has the ability to delete files or make changes to your computer without your authorization. Everything that a virus does. I would suggest that Papaya located a better anti-hacking program to protect their game, or they might have their player base start dying like it did on Gpot, NetMarble and OGP.

Glad I found this thread. I was going crazy reinstalling Firefox trying to figure out why my browser was no longer working. Game guard is extremely controversial in the way it operates, from everything I have read. Korean game devs love it because it's hyper aggressive in combating the botting problem that's more noticeable in Asian games (grindy games). But, it is extremely evasive in terms of system manipulation and privacy compromises. I would like to see us go back to the third party "guard" used during NM and early OGP. Names escape me but I don't recall the problems that periodically pop up due to game guard.

Also have this issue, the current solution I found is to disable multi-process feature. Here is how to disable multi-process in firefox: https://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/22/multi-process-firefox/

I hope GameGuard can fix this issue ASAP.

Revert to Firefox 5.6. The older versions are working, only 5.7 is hit by the bug.

same exact problem, im running win7 ultimate, tried to uninstall
firefox, update it, install the older version, nothing seemed to work.
chrome and IE dont seem to have this issue.

Bumping this post.  Having to uninstall Firefox and roll back to an older, potentially less secure version is not acceptable.  This needs to be looked into by P2 and fixed immediately.

    Hello Captains,

Sorry for the late response. Our team is already aware of this issue and is working with GameGuard team to fix this issue.

We are planning to apply the new update during our UWO maintenance, but the update schedule is subject to change.

    Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for looking into this, @GMBenya. However, even after the GG update, it's still causing trouble with Firefox.

I'm still unable to open Firefox while I have UWO running. This issue needs to be dealt with A.S.A.P. please. Thank-you.

Maybe it is not all game guard maybe part of it could be the new add ons FireFox added. Just  something that I been thinking it could be part of the problem

Firefox isnt working for me(properly) until i shut down the Desktops.exe program i assume we are all using. It was working fine for awhile but it started to cause conflicts regarding administration rights.

If you run firefox as admin it will load, but still has issues opening new tabs unless linked to the new tab.

Shutting down desktops program Removes the issue for me.

@aceman39: Even if that were the case, this has only been a problem since a recent GG update. I've tried starting Firefox in safe mode, which disables any and all add-ons. The problem still persists.
  • slaaneshslaanesh Posts: 13Member Beginner
For me if I launch firefox before UWO/game guard there is no problem.

Since the update to GG I have had no problem using Firefox.

I have no idea whats doing it  for some but iv never had a prob opening firefox or any other netprogram will in game

More sounds like u have programs open that clash with gg i know a lot use nav maybe that the prob or some other program.
  • HawthorneHawthorne Posts: 71Member Beginner
@Crimsonbunny: As I've mentioned before, this is problem is happening across a number of different machines with different running programs and setups.  The only common thread is that Firefox 57.0.3, Windows 10 Pro and UWO/GG are involved.  I'm glad to hear the latest fix helped some people, but I still can't load new pages in Firefox nor can I close it without going to the Task Manager.

I think one of the last GameGuard updates views Firefox as a potential threat.
