You can change you setting to 'battle spectators on this will allow you to see any ships outside the battle. As far as towing, I have never had anyone call in the troops while I towed them, not that I know of at least. And towing them I the least you can do to ease the pain. I also rescue their crew to help em out.
The biggest difficulty starting out as a pirate, is getting accurate info on being a pirate. Most people are long on opinion, and short on fact. Common misconception: You can farm blues: No you can't. Yes- they can be hit again within 24 hours - no you can not attack them again instantly like you can a red tag. Example: Back on Gama, I fought a BH and won, he popped back up with a *green* (time-out from attacks) flag. He proceeded to sail. 30 sec later. still green flag. 1 min later still green flag. He crossed an ocean zone line, still green flag. 15-20 mins later I was still following him and his green flag dropped off allowing me to attack him again. Anyone can get to port in 15-20 mins. He was talking smack the whole time and clearly thought he would be able to lose me. So there you have it. At least 15 mins to get to port if you are killed as a blue tag. So if a pirate attacks you as a white, and you win (easy now thanks to DB being brought back), you turn blue. No reason to panic. You have at least 15 mins to decide what you want to do. If you log out or port, the green flag drops. I would not consider that being farmable. Now if you are red, you can be attacked the second you gain 1 crew back. You might not even have control of your ship due to a laggy connection before you find yourself being farmed. imho, there is no down side AT ALL to being blue and pirates still get the short end of the stick. If I was a dev, I'd make it so a white who gets attacked and wins does not turn blue - but also blues can be farmed just like pirates and attacked anywhere. However that is not the case currently, that I am aware of.
First the option of seeing outside the ring or not is in your settings. Turn it on. Seeing what is going on outside is too valuable to give up.
Second, there is no way someone is gonna mobilize against you so fast that you cant drop someone in port. If they are so butt hurt they are calling in reinforcements. They probably won't party with you.

One thing I will add: Don't expect to earn a living on piracy. No group except Traders/Crafters should be able to earn a living from their activities. As a high rank Adventurer on GAMA I had to do things like make and sell Lace Coats and +2 farm implements or do the occasional spice run to fund my adventuring, Any pirate that expects to earn billions from their piracy activities is, to put it bluntly, deluding themselves.

That I will endorse. No one carries cash (not usually) so if you are lucky you plunder 1-3 million on average. Most items that you plunder are of low value with the occasional 20-100mil item. But the cost of piracy due to ship/item/cannon dura loss repair or replacement. Also the price to bribe into each port eats up any profit.
Pirates have to supplement their income with trade or crafting of some sort. As a lazy noob player with little knowledge of the game I find it easiest to buy a few bottles (tickets) pray for a ship that I can sell and live off the procedes for a month or so.....

Item plunder is back. The plunderable items do not include cash shop items or consumables.
Deck battle can only be forced against a Blue or Red/orange name but not against a white name.
Other than that same rules as OGP.
