They should call the new steamship, paddle boat, because it is propelled by a steam powered paddle wheel, (even though paddle wheels are ineffective at high seas).
The new steamship can be built at industrial cities after the update. (requires fuel)
Steam skill can be added to most sailing ships as an original skill (osp). (doesn't need fuel). See shipyard master for recipe.
Steamship is a crap. It is quite fast but doesnt last a long time due to bad fuel consumption. When running out of fuel, it becomes terribly slower.
Then what is Clermont? Its an ultimate cargo ship. It has the largest cargo, minimum sailors and low lvl requirement. If you have 5 toons in a fleet, all ships but 1st will be replaced with Clermont.
It seems like you have to do a small quest or something to be able to build this:
① Talk with a steam engineer (near a blast furnace) in your own industrial revolution city ② Talk to the shipyard of the Lübeck ③ Talk with the steam engineer in the industrial revolution city ④ Talk to Boston's Franklin ⑤ Talk with the steam engineer in the industrial revolution city
Then, when your nation's port is in Industrial revolution:
With a sheet metal of reinforced steel × 3, processed iron , processed wood <br />, when talking to a steam engineer you can produce a large hull exclusively for steamboat .
Seems like a really good ship for your aide, or if you are not the fleet admiral. With SB 20 it can get about 1500 cargo. One website says that without coal your speed drops by 10-15%
I'd recommend you to give Clermonts to your alts rather than main toon because coal fuel is very expensive like 3 coals per days aka 67 days for 20m is kinda ridiculous cost. Oh, your aide will slow down your sailing unless you have coal fuels in inventory. Oh btw, u can't place coal fuels in bags or even strongbox.
well odd, i got the hull, but when i try make the ship (r10handi and 10 sb) i cant press next , as there is no ships in options , anyone have this issue ?
As an aide ship, yes. For alts, it seems pretty solid although the ship skills are kind of limited (EA/HL/livestock room/galley/PO3+). As a lead ship, it depends on if 20m every 67 days is cost effective.
@LyonesseJoseph Do you have a citation on an aide's steamship slowing down your own sail speed? Common wisdom is that as long as your aide's ship has the minimum amount of sailors, they don't affect your own sail speed.
the ship is a cargo haulers dream due to the amount you can haul, it is however a coal-fuel eating hog :p 100.000 per 1 fuel and you need 3 to start engine oh also 3 per 1 min of sailing (no quest to increase efficiency done ) , guessing if you get that to decrease needed it maybe be worth it, but for a singel char player like me its gonna be in the hands of my aide

I think the hull is r10 Handi & R10 SB - 3 rolled iron sheets? 1x metalwork 1 x proc lumber?
I would be grateful for any further details e.g. cargo hold at R20 where to build etc
Cheers
So this ship is somewhat useless?

I will be looking for them on the sea.
