Rat avoiding deck battle question

TsannikTsannik Posts: 8Member Beginner
Hello, I read this:

Deck Battle may now be initiated without the consent of both sides when you initiate a Deck battle with the flagship of a Fleet and the character on that ship is either a Bounty Hunter or has bounty on their head.

However, while in melee with a red named character, myself white, he was able to avoid DB.  Clicked it twice.  Avoided.  Only he and I, so clearly he was in the lead ship.

Now, the variable I am thinking of is the fact that I attacked him.  I initiated, rather than waiting for him to initiate, but there is no mistaking we both were wanting the fight.

So does that line need to be amended?  If you attack the rat they can still avoid DB?  Or if you attack the rat as a white they can still avoid DB?  Or is this not working properly?  Because based on the wording, which is found on this website, regarding the changes to pvp, he should not have been able to avoid that DB.  Twice.

Need to know so I know how the mechanics work so I can actually properly plan for melee and DB.  Thanks.

I have to add, if you have to be blue to force DB on a rat this is completely broken.  You are basically handicapping the white.  The rat should be the one at risk for DB without consent.

He or she is coming on to my ship, attacking me.  Therefore it is they who should be at risk for a 'oh crap, the captain stepped out of his quarters with sword drawn' effect.

Did you check the persons ship? Did they have deck barrier skill?

If you are a white name I think you can force deck on a red name if you are the victim, not the agressor.

I believe blue, orange and red can force it on each other.

In order to force deck battle, you must succeed through the sailor obstruction of your opponent. The only way to do that is by having a better crew number than your opponent along with sufficient loyalty. A trader with 30 crew has less than 20 % chance to initiate deck battle vs a pirate that has 250+ sailors.

Whenever your current amount of sailors equals to your opponent roughly, chance is then approx. 50 % with decent crew and then when you've about twice or higher crew than your opponent it is close to 90 %.

This can deviate though as HelloAll stated regarding the deck barrier or assault deck shipskill. It is not easy to engage a pirate generally in deck battle and there are pirates that has decent land battle skill that even can outwin traders/adventurers. :x

Anyway, I hope this information helps regarding this. ^^

    Kind Regards,

So then, when it says initiate DB without consent, it is still factoring in game mechanics.  I was reading 'without consent' to mean 'forced DB without mechanics'.  There is no forced DB, he just does not have to also click the DB button, but I still have to, game mechanic wise, successfully DB.

I am fully aware of the abilities of pirates.  Just need info on the mechanics.  Thanks for the clarification.

He still has to click the deck battle button. When I engage a trader I get a message after 1 round that deck battle is ready.

It would be a little unfair if a pirate with maxed melee gets easily beat of a trader every time just because they can spend a day grinding land battle.

Of course pirates can grind land battle but after having to grind cannons, melee, repair and evasion then I feel I should get the advantage over a clipper without having to be taken to deck each time.

So the fact that traders have to reach certain requirements is the right thing
