Sigh… what started out as an opportunity to get another player (Raja) to join back to the game has turned into a pit of self loathing, pessimism and fear mongering. How can one complain theres no new players, population getting smaller theres little pirates etc.   Right?  Then right here is the perfect opportunity to get a new maritimer back into the game and what do yall do?  scare him off THANKS.   Then want to attack me when I say that alot of you negative nancies are also responsible for the very issues you're complaining about.

How the hell do you expect for this game to grow when yall spreading negative outlooks like that.  Nowadays its like unless you're a self loathing pessimist you people look at the optimists and people who think we can do more as a community like something is wrong with them?!   Even people were positive before are now being influenced and are suddenly super pessimists now… SMH

Thanks whiners, self loathers, pessimists and chronic complainers you just potentially scared off yet ANOTHER Potential player  for uwo and you can't pin this one on papaya either thats ALL you…

Its water under the bridge its all love. No hard feelings at least not from me :P

Anything we do is better than your idea of waiting on Koei oh did they give you the release date on that miracle patch yet? Oh no? What a surprise.  All I will say Naver is DO NOT let a skill less trader implement an idea that gets Maritime popping again because IF that happens I will log in EVERY SINGLE GOT DAMN DAY! JUST to rub it in your face and remind you CONSTANTLY you got outclassed by a skill less trader.  My promise to you is you will NEVER hear the end of it.

This shows you share the same ignorant approach as Naver where you immediately dismiss any and all ideas from other classes and unless its from a  Maritimer and this is why you fail and you're MISERABLE. Like I said I started auctions in uwo but a maritime suggested I should charge for it… good ideas can come from anywhere   not like you care anyway.  Like I told Naver if pirate mafia gets maritime popping or at least generates some buzz… you better put your  toon on private because I will also remind you CONSTANTLY of how IGNORANT  it was to dismiss all ideas of somebody just because they not in the "maritime class".  I'll accept any suggestion from any class as a different class may offer a different outlook or a different element.

You said it best we gave to make the best out of what we got it wont be perfect… but its all we got.

Its all good no hard feelings :)

Despite what alot of negative people say I promise you If you return and you should I  will join fleet play with you etc.  You wont feel alone.  I have an idea for a pirate/trader mafia that id like to discuss with you.  If you come back maybe we can make it a reality

Smh. I know its not perfect I'm just not ready to give up yet at least not without a fight… after being in a long term relationship I know how hard it can be but you can never give up always keep fighting.  If uwo dows fail I want to be able to say at least we tried our best that will bring closure.

Seriously though, I went to sea once and I got attacked by a giant octopus thing!!!!

    It's not safe out there!!!!

There are actual monsters in the sea. Papaya needs to do something about it !!!!!

How can they expect me to go to sea if there are big creepy things out there!!!!! Well!!!!!

You can't run a sailing game if there are monsters in the sea. Come on Papaya. Wake up - bring in Rentokill or something. Make it safe for us to play.

The server population is fine. There have been times with more players around, and times with less players. The sea might sometimes seem emptier compared to many years ago, but as said before, the world has more than doubled in size. On the other hand, to compensate, the ships are much faster than before. The game also has players from all timezones, which spreads out player activity.

Anyways, the game still has lots of opportunities to play with others or to join an active company.

Its certainly obvious the population is a lot lower than its been. Anybody that has been playing for years and whose not in denial can see this. This can be seen by the lack of bazaars in Seville, mainly between the Bank/Comp Store area. This area is usually full when the game is thriving. Another easy measuring point is London. When there is less than 70-80 players regularly in London, there is a problem. The last way I check this is the seas outside of London/Seville. Since these are the most popular cities in game, it should be atleast 10-15 player outside, which is usually less than now. Lastly, is EA population, which is a ghost town these days in EEA and WEA Seas.

It is obvious the population is down, but why? What made the population actually "thrive" when it was up? Easy.. PvP made it thrive. Back on the old server, before the Deck/Plunder/Dungeon nerfs, the game/server was booming. Everyone was decking everyone, the REAL Viking was murdering players 5v1, and everyone was fleeting up vs PAC members. There was an actual "bad guy" in the game which PAC seemed enjoyed the role. Players from all random companies used to fleet up together to fight the local PAC fleet in any seas. Ever since those updates of the past, the PvP population and subsequently the server population has slowly died. Face it, this is a PvP based server, not a trader/adventure server. Even earlier than that, was the Sea Legion/PAC battles. Players used to practice regularly and grind for every little advantage to be prepared and well tooled for these rivalry battles. Any random recruit with a NC ship and decent PvP skills was recruited to a PvP company or asked to come join the battles. This motivated maritimers to grind, and to keep up with the latest advantages and newest equipment.

The reason PvP hasn't taken off on this server is because of poor management and greed. First off, they started out by giving the first 10x players to level 60, the best armour in game (Black Rong Fu) AND at the time, the current best ship on the server FNL. Then came the release of AOL Blue as Cash Shop only, and Surgeon Rong Fu in Capt Ticks. These armours cost more than a ship now. Even now, there is no "2nd or 3rd Tier armour" to compete and NO "end game" maritime ships. Here you have the most active maritimers, with the highest skills from grinding, the best armour in the game, and the current best ship. Who can compete? There is no in game armour even remotely close to compete to Black/Surgeon Rong Fu or Steam Engineer Suit. They need to balance out the PvP/maritime aspect of this game. Put Lace Coat book back out, put Commander Justaucorp book out, put the Green Peascod from Gandor out. Let some lesser/poorer players have a chance to compete in PvP. Put a decent mid tier armour (AOL Black/Purple) in the Capt Tickets so players can tool up. Put General Cloak/Robe back in MA. There needs to be more focus on encouraging PvP through management. Putting crappy "Improved Black Cannons 16s" and "non tradable 16/11 plates", crap like this does NOTHING to encourage PvP or anything. It shows an epic disconnect from what the players want and what management comprehends.

The 2nd reason PvP is dead and is hurting the server population is due to the lack of PvP caliber "end game" ships. There is already SHC, RWJ ,SWJ, and CSHM out as top Adv/Trade ships. You have the Clermont out as best Aide Ship. What good ships are out for PvP?? FNL? Refitted Real? MAF? NONE!! Players don't want to waste NC parts on crappy ships, and nobody wants to sail poorly modded crappy ships because nobody wants to get sunk because their ship turns slower than a NPC's! Put some real "endgame" caliber ships in the game. Players are holding tons of NC parts waiting for something worthwhile to use them on so they can finally "begin to PvP". We have been playing this game for years, we know what ships are to come. We don't want ALRs and FNL when we are used to COGs, SSFelipes, SNGs, LLMs, and AVictorys. The longer they nickel and dime us with these crap ships, the more players will get frustrated and quit.

The answer if fix PvP = fix the game... To do that, stop being greedy.. and STOP NERFING us!!

Another factor was the Dungeon Nerf. This killed the game for the new and up incoming maritimer. Most maritimers made their money in Dungeons as opposed to Nanban/Spice/Production. A lot of the skills like Swordplay and the finesse/techs, transferred over from Dungeons, to help your PvP skills, and you made money doing it. Plus you don't need to spend money on a Trade ship/Cargo ship to Nanban/Spice, or time sailing 45mins + to EA/SEA and 45min+ back. New players had an easy come up farming ESBTs to sell to experienced players, while still grooming their SP and SM skills, and unlocking techs/finesse. Now it is much harder for the new maritimer to succeed. You cant focus on maritime because you have to rank up Alcohol Trading so you can Nanban, or grind Casting so you have some money. You don't get to play how you want.. You don't want to grind Casting, You want to plunder people!!!

Lastly, while I did say "poor management" earlier, I do give Papaya some credit. A lot of the best items in game weren't given out in a P2W scenario (ie Capt Tickets/ UWC Shop). They gave the best armour (Black Rong Fu) out, and at the time, best ship (FNL) out, and even the only "endgame" caliber PvP ship, MLA, were all given out via in Game Contests. This may seem minor to most, but to not cater to the P2W crowd helps the freeloader population stick around greatly and maintain's some integrity.

Fix PvP = fix the population....

the low population can also be a seasonal issue. Even back on OGP, late winter was a low time for people to be online. But things picked up again in the spring :)

I don't know if that's the reason for low population but I cannot disagree with BigSmooths post.
I have been hoarding any decent ship part waiting for a real ship (LLM for piracy) or a real PvP ship.
I don't want to waste them on a temporary ship.
The ALR I have now has a crap build due to low SB ranks when it was built and no high end parts used.
The trade and adventure ships that have been released are better then any of the ones that were ever available on gama!
How is a pirate supposed to even try to catch a Superior High Clipper with steam engine and vagrant wear? Not with an ALR.

I had to start using my speed mod beagle since my speed mod MR couldn’t catch the majority of the ships I met at sea.

The MR was great in the beginning but now most have the lvls for the fast schooners or they have the nc fast ships.
So the MR is useless really, prob needs a reset to battle ship, but then it cost me a fortune and good parts to speed mod it.

The beagle is quick catches everything pretty much but it’s only 120 crew an 800 dura so I have to be selective who I attack.

But I’ve not played in a week anyway so it doesn’t matter

The game is fading away in the dim light if its former glory.

I had to take pause from the game in the past, each of which was like a month. But i always found the game attractive enough for me to return.

Not any more after Papaya has taken over. I have successfully bot touching the game for more than a month now, not even collecting the UWC. It has completely lost its charm to me.

Time to say bye to UWO. I wish it have a good ending.

Are there more players out there like me who hadn't played since 2013 but started again after the wipe and were pleasantly surprised by the founders rewards? game is super fun, they should advertise.

Safe to say we all think the game is fun. We are all UWO addicts!
I also think advertising would help population.

    @Niomnic welcome back.

    Hello peeps,
I used to play a lot. And I'm going to tell you why and I will also tell you why i quit.
I played because the game offers great complexity. I loved dungeons, skills, trades, quests, gathering, fishing and most of all the long and dangerous trade runs to Japan and Korea. Let alone ship building and Aids with all the training they needed.
Here is the time I tell you why I left. One day, they decided to greatly lower the income  from those trade runs (Japan and Korea) and it resulted in everybody staying on land running dungeons, because those became more profitable, than trade runs. Developers effectively turned a great marine game into a non stop dungeon running game. What a pity.
Now I felt nostalgic and decided to check on the game. And what i find - items teleporting you anywhere on the world??? Seriously??? Damn... Do you actually need a ship in this game anymore???
What a shame, this game was amazing, before they decided to make it "better".
RiP UWO! I'll remember you forever!
