The monthly packages cost too much

Champion of the sea runs a little over 4000 UWC, which comes out to well over $50 USD by the time you're done, and that was even with it discounted. I understand the game is free to play and with varying budgets justification can certainly get complicated, but if you go a step down to the other packages they still run to over $25.

An MMO subscription should not run the same as my internet bill. Champion of the sea shouldn't be running more than $20 per month, asking over $60 for 30 days of play is outrageous. Especially since they aren't reimbursing that time lost due to the continual bugs and maintenance.

Not that I don't agree with you, its just that it should be pointed out that, for example, a WoW subscription gets you literally noting but game time. You get practically nothing but access to the game for roughly 20 dollars per month CAD. With UWO you get in game items for your purchase. I do agree that the cost seems to high but I dont think that the comparison is as simple as comparing a normal game subscription.

When we talk about WoW is it world of worships or world of Warcraft? I was a big world war craft player 10 years or more ago, got to lvl 60 which was max at the time and although I had to pay a monthly fee it was well worth it for the content, the amount online and the way the game was run.

I feel with the amount playing on this server there is no reason to spend any money now. I think it will close down soon.

But if it doesn’t close down, which I hope it doesn’t for all you still enjoying it...but if it doesn’t I don’t see why people need to spend money now.

There is next to no maritime. So traders and adventures don’t need speed boosts or blue flags. I’m sure most if not all have top of the range lead ships and then easy to get clermonts for your aide.
Most trade and adv players should be end game now and go about your daily play easily.

I guess some adventures still want to max some skills but i’d be surprised if the game lasts a year or more.

I may still spend a little here and there but I’m doing it with a game closer in the back of my mind.

lol @ HelloAll   4 months into restart and we should all be end game players. wow! what an idiotic statement. It took me 5+ years to get where I was  at the time of the wipe.

Do you seriously think the same can be done in just 4 months???

Are you at top end? what are your current levels,& skill ranks? are they all topped out and refined?

top of range ships?? I currently run a fully modded TC. not even close to top end

they have released some pretty decent top end adv and trade ships. And those are the people I’m referring too. Also being out at sea pretty much all the time I play that’s what I see.
And as a maritime player I didn’t have an end game ship because they haven’t reased any yet.

But sorry for being an idiot, I hope you are able to calm down and it doesn’t ruin your day :)

I'm not arguing the free to play aspect, I did play WoW (Warcraft) and FFXIV for years now. And of course, no pay no play. However, I feel the price is worth it because of the massive amount of seemingly never ending content those games provide. My true passion, however, lies with UWO.

But at the end of the day I can't see myself willing to spend that much for 30 days of boosters and other things the packs contain. The 100m checks and such are nice, but all I really care about are the 50% proficiency/xp/Fame/ship speed items, so much so I'd rather see things get taken out of the pack if it meant bringing the price down.

And if we're being honest, the lion's share of the gameplay lies in the grinding anyway. Right now between the boosts, shipbuilding, and basic production skills required to even stand a chance against NPCs is an extremely large and unbalanced gap that could be easily bridged by a price drop.

Of course the server costs money to run, but are they really making that much off the current player base anyways? As it stands now I'd gladly pledge $20 a month and I think so would a lot of others here. I'd rather pay a flat fee every month and get everything as opposed to a free to play model where you pay triple the price for a few items.

I would wager that those people you are referring to don't even make up 1% of the population. Which ought to leave plenty of other targets no? Also saw people looking to buy blue flags this very day. So clearly the demand is there from some.

It's not all doom and gloom matey ;)

Also most subscription games I've played offered additional perks, other than just granting access. So I can see your point Veclord. I honestly think just a slight reduction is warranted. They might actually sell a lot more that way.

Oh and I agree - Clermonts are stupid.

I didn’t mean it in a doom and gloom way. Like I said for those enjoying it I hope the game lasts a long time.

But I personally don’t think much money needs to be spent now.

Very rare chance now you will be attacked by a pirate. So blue flags are expensive NCP deterrents.

Also as regards boosters, most people have decent skill lvl so don’t really need to spend on a booster for xp or prof booster.

And speed boosters are handy but not a necessity, especially since the lack of pirates around to chase you.

I’m only saying people don’t need to spend much real cash now.

Or at least that’s the situation with most of the people I know in game.

I certainly wouldn’t buy the monthly packages anyway.

    *Monthly packages costs too much*

Hmm... If I look what it contains all in it and dive into math:
    1x Wind God Gem                                              - 1680 UWC
    1x Thunder God Gem                                          - 1680 UWC
1x Strongbox Long Term Permit                          -  525 UWC
1x Shared Storage Long Term Permit                 -  515 UWC
1x Shared Storage (NO.2) Long Term Permit     -  515 UWC
1x Skill Note Usage Long  Permit                        -  535 UWC
    1x Add.Registration Long Permit                         -  340 UWC
    5x 100m cheque                                                  -  400 UWC (roughly)
    5x Captain Ticket                                                 - 1100 UWC
5x Secret No War Pact Epstile                            -  675 UWC
5x Special Ship Boarding Ticket                          -  625 UWC
Total Value in this package                              -  8590 UWC
Cost to buy this package                                  - 5080 UWC

Calculating the ratio you get as outcome you're paying for all these items for 41 % (rounded with integers) less. I don't know what the problem is for these package, because to me it is one of the greatest deal you can get from it. The Guardian and Sentinnel got similar benefit from these and imo this one is only meant for those who're dedicated to spend that much monthly and is their own free choice whenever to take it or not.

Also 5x captain ticket is like five free bottle attempts... in GAMA it were premium tickets that never involved the sailor bottle and now it does... imagine you win a uwc ship out of it... this pays totally off then. :x

This is what I wanted to add, because I spend 50 euro per month to buy this package to maintain the boosters I am using. In GAMA I always sticked with getting sentinnel.

Hope these calculations gives you all a clear picture about the benefits of the monthly packs. ^^

    Kind Regards,

yes the game is free to play but i think you've have wrong idea about subscription here. You are not in any way obligated to buy any items from the uwc shop. On some of the asian servers i've heard they have to pay for monthly just to play (like your WoW), but this server is completely free. If you are a creative person you don't actually have to pay a cent for this game and yet have pretty much any uwc item they could want just from using "in game" ducets to buy items from other people.

As for the price of the packs, i think they are very fair considering the price breakdown that Gazi showed. This is a old game with a small user base. There are many new games out there but i like this one and would gladly pay a little more than for other games to keep this server running for years to come if it can.

"Getting a good deal" sounds so much like a term to define a subjective thought in this case. It's something akin to a shop owner saying "Hang on, let me raise the price so I can give you a discount".

Regardless, I respect the opinions of others here and I acknowledge it's very possible I'm wrong. If the server is doing fine, then as the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. For the time being I noticed that I can just individually buy the items I want. 480 UWC isn't too bad to get a 50% booster for 7 days, so I will just cherry pick the items I need at the time and balance that out with what I'm willing to spend that week.

Time will tell if we get better deals for things soon. Hopefully everything will work out for UWO either way.

The best monthly package is expensive, but you get a lot. And a lot of the stuff has the potential to help you for more than just that one month, such as the captain tickets. It's all a matter of how much extra stuff you want. I can play without paying, but sometimes I like to get some premium stuff.

another option is to get the pack (since all the items are cheaper then buying individually), use what you need then sell in game all the other stuff that you don't want. You get your items at a cheaper price and make alot of in game ducets as well... win win!
