It's no trouble at all, Wes; certainly not as much trouble as grinding for 7 years for nothing. You always talk about "normal" people. Are you "normal"? I'm not, I'm extraordinary. I obviously must be important, and you obviously care. I am someone you will never comprehend. Thanks for caring. Smooches.
You're welcome. And yes, I am normal in my thought processes, the only thing extraordinary about me is the lengths I can take it to, and how long I can keep it up. But if you're so extraordinary, why are you unable to get anywhere on UWO without all the grinding you seem to dislike? If I couldn't play a game or didn't want to, I've got enough going on in my life to do something else, yet you are still holding on to your old memories of the wonderful gama server and missing out on the simple joys of the humble maris server. I guess you're so important that you can't let yourself sink to the level of a simple gamer who enjoys playing a game. well, whatever floats your boat - or doesn't.
It's a shame that anyone blames Papaya for the feeling of loss of your characters or items. All that grinding and playing was not done while papaya was hosting the game.
Did papaya have to wipe the data? ABSOLUTELY!
Yep it's true. Without the wipe UWO would be NO WHERE to play anymore. OGP was not making enough money on the game anymore to make sense keeping it. Just passing a game in that condition would obviously not work any simpleton could see that.
The main reason that OGP was not making enough profit is that too many players already had all their equipment and ships and were no longer buying from OGP.
Anyone that was not spending at least 50 bucks a month on the game only has themselves to blame for the wipe.
Thank God Papaya took over the game! I still look forward to playing it.
@CulvernThe main reason that OGP was not making enough profit is that too many players already had all their equipment and ships and were no longer buying from OGP.
That's not true, i'm sure almost every vet was spending money on a monthly basis. Even after getting your final build on a character with items and ships, you still need to keep spending on renewing all your storage expanders. Plus there's always regular sales on items like npc's, ssip's etc, and even sailor bottles. By the end of gama i had met many 'vets' from the game and would hear stories of their regular spending, and they were spending A LOT more than $50 per month.
The reason that OGP went under has already been established, that because of the corruption in the company and the misappropriation of monies caused the company to go under. They had already lost the licenses to all their games, UWO just happened to be the last one to go. But after it was anounced the close of OGP there was no new host for weeks then at the last minute papaya took over. Back with OGP, yes Koei did let them have more control over the code of the game. OGP changed alot of the code on their own and added a lot of their own content. Koei has learned from their mistake and now keeps control over content for the game. When papaya took over they had NO CHOICE but to wipe the server, they didn't want and shouldn't have to had deal with all OGP's hacks and cracks in the code. They did the same thing for La Tale when they took it over, they had to start fresh for the same reasons. Plus some of the customizing that OGP had done probably conflicted with the new updates for the age of revolution. That's why the server is called "Maris" now. Gama still probably exists but it's a dead server now that can't be updated. This also explains how they were able to 'link' our accounts for the founders rewards, the data is/was still there but it just wasn't compatible in it's current state. This is why we were told that the game would continue but then at the last minute it was anounced that the server would be reset (they probably tried to salvage the character data but couldn't make it work). Also having a wipe would generate quick immediate cash flow to papaya for starting up the game as players would have to spend if they wanted to 'accelerate' their stats back again.
Cocoa need to understand that she wasn't singled out in the reset, we ALL were affected. But we were given a choice... either play the game out again for minimal to no cost or spend money and speed develop their character back again. No body is forcing you to do anything we all have a choice as to which style of play we want. But know this... This is Maris server NOT gama, even if any of us went to one of the asian servers we'd STILL have to start from scratch again so this server is NO different. This is a different server than gama period...
Of course it does cost to maintain a 'vet' player but it costs a lot more to become one (I know we don't have to pay). Even if Papaya did not have to reset the data and did it anyways I would not be mad. They need to have the game profitable to bother hosting it. I am assuming that we all have spent more with the reset than we would have otherwise. I know I have.
@purplepirate My previous post was more of a swipe at those that do not contribute anything other than their complaining.
I feel I should point out @purplepirate that the change in name has nothing to do with the wipe, Maris is the world not the server, the servers can have several worlds (e.g. all the Asian servers have several worlds). The player characters are independent (for the most part, there's only a few things such as companies that are home-world-bound) from the worlds and are part of the server themselves, thus, by all rights, it is possible that this is the same server with the world, GAMA having been deleted along with all our characters. Certainly, there are differences between the worlds, such as emperor elections, ESF and world clock, etc., therefore it may also be possible the world's rules could be different (e.g. one could have item plunder enabled, while another doesn't). I stress 'may' because that is an assumption, but still a possibility based on the given information.
The point I'm trying to make is, if that is the case, then our characters could have been preserved while a fresh world could've simply been created with the default/factory-setting rules, as opposed to a full wipe.
@HeavyWater The characters couldn't have been preserved if they had been affected with bad code from the old server and/or had elements of re written code in them from OGP. If characters could be 'preserved' and transfered to a new server then we'd be able to take our characters to any Server NA or Asian but we can't transfer (each server as you pointed out has slightly different code to it). But it would allow access to atleast retrieve certain data (like what happened with linking accounts for founders rewards). Also if that was the case we'd be able to keep our characters but would just have no gear and ships on them. After all Papaya doesn't make money from our lvl's and skills, they make money from our gear and ships.
Ok nowwwww I get what CCP Grievance is it isnt that she can start over or that her legacy is gone… she saying that the sense of accomplishment having done as much as she did on her own in addition she also put a tremendous amount of effort while in failing health in real life to finally reach a place that she can relax and reap the benefits of her hard work. One main example is CCP was tormented by pirates and she worked sold auctioned saved for years and FINALLY got a uber astro ship fully decked out and plunder proof only to have it deleted.
What she has described is the same as working at a company for 50 years and you finally ready to retire at 65 only to be told NOPE that pension gone social security gone vacation house gone but but Good news you can now start again working from scratch but this we'll give you 20k to start off with! Aren't we generous?? When you put it that way its a crummy deal as at 65 you will never get it back your health aint there. :(
Now that I understand heres what I think… CCP is right that after putting in that much work effort and time PP cant compensate that. However we dont know the details of the wipe dont know who asked for it or why could have been bad code could be a contractual disagreement or even koei wanting to go in brand new direction which are all totally understandable not that I agree with it but this is BUSINESS its cut throat it is what it is its not personal.
One thing CCP and anyone else disgruntled about the wipe has to ALWAYS Remember Any online game is NOT AN INVESTMENT therefore meaning it is not guaranteed to you ever and the moment you begin to think what you accrued in this game is yours forever youre screwed . No company is required to save your progress and data PROTECT it yes but save it NO. The TOS clearly states that since Netmarble OGP and now Papaya if you dont like it then you should have never agreed to the TOS and invested time and gave them your business…
So you cant get too mad at a business for making a business decision but you have to take ownership for accepting the TOS when you clearly dont agree with it THAT isnt their fault...no point being upset about it really this is simply how business works either move on or simply find a different product. Its not personal its just business…
